Torgeir Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Carew will be 32 in January and his injury record, not to mention his scoring record, is equal or worse than Roque's. I agree that on his day he is a handful for any defence in the league, but people are focused on looking towards the future instead of the past - and John Carew's best days are definitely behind him. Same goes for Roque. That said I think both could do a job until the summer, or for another season if they avoid injuries. IF... Football is short term, and there aren't many strikers available within our current budget, especially if it is true that our budget is around £5 million this window. I think Roberts is the only striker on our books able to threaten defences alone, and that is pretty revealing about the state of things. When you say there HAS to be someone better than Roque, nicko, do you have any suggestions? Do you think we should gamble (again) on youth instead of a proven striker, albeit with a history of injuries? Signing a proven striker without the injury record will surely be beyond our budget...?

67splitscreen Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 He's meant to be in good shape, but Ranieri never wanted him,so he's never got a chance to prove himself. In good shape for football or a drink or two?.
Roberto Policano Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 In good shape for football or a drink or two?. Both probably.Has to be better than Cruz though. Okaka is talking over a six month loan deal with Bari,i don't rate him though. Roma would sell Julio Baptista for 5-6 million Euro's. How about Artjoms Rudnevs he would be cheap as chips.
67splitscreen Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Both probably.Has to be better than Cruz though. How about Artjoms Rudnevs he would be cheap as chips. Was he Popovs replacement or was he signed before he left. Four goals against Juve makes you think, doubt we will be taking a risk though.

He would be worth a go, and perhaps a better option than RSC. Carew = No and RSC = maybe, but if there are other options, then NO

T4E Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Surely, given we have a bit more cash than usual, if we're going to go for one of our former players then it HAS to be Bellamy???
Amo Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Carew will be 32 in January and his injury record, not to mention his scoring record, is equal or worse than Roque's. John Carew has made over 100 apps for Villa in the past 3 years. That's more than Jason Roberts has made for us. He's not as crocked as Roque.
rovers_rob Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Pavel Pogrebnyak takes step closer to England as Blackburn, Tottenham and Liverpool vie for Russia striker
Roberto Policano Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Was he Popovs replacement or was he signed before he left. Four goals against Juve makes you think, doubt we will be taking a risk though. Who's Popovs mate,do you mean Lewandowski?.Rudnevs signed in the Summer,so he would be.

You mean in the past 4 years? He still has problems with at least one 'jumper's knee', as well as a recurring back problem. He never manages to play the full 90 minutes, and is known to be lazy in training. It's a shame, because I don't think he ever reached his full potential. Nonetheless he's by far Norway's best striker, but I'd still take RSC over him. Pavel Pogrebnyak takes step closer to England as Blackburn, Tottenham and Liverpool vie for Russia striker Good player, but not the most best finisher in the world. Think he'd be our no. 1 striker, he's better than what we already have. Was ahead of Pavlyuchenko in the Russian pecking order before getting injured against Srbija just before EURO 2008, and we all know what happened there. Sign him up!

I must admit I would have thought we would have received a bit more of a statement from the Venky's about some of their plans etc by now. How many games have they be owners for now. I sure I read somewhere that we wil see a difference in a month after the takeover. The only difference I know about is we conceeded 7 goals in one match!!!!!! Apart from that????????
SergioPeter89 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 How about Artjoms Rudnevs he would be cheap as chips. Bring in Josip Ilicic and I will love you forever

Apart from that???????? and we beat Wolves and into the top half of the table. for all we know, Kentaro could be discussing Podolski, Riquelme, and maybe a few other top names. would Sam object to that?l it does spell trouble though, as Sam is or should be signing who he wants.

What about the fact that we have scored 6 in the three games they have owned us, winning two out of the three games. What on earth do you expect them to do in November? They cannot do much outside the transfer window, in terms of changing things. The club was run well before they came, there is no need to change to much there.

I am just refering to something that was reported, with regards something that was said by them. I am sure I read that we would see changes after a month of ownership. A mute point, that I agree, but wondering what we should expect by them. Of course the transfer window is closed and therefore nothing can be chnaged there. But as the Venky's have said we will see changes in the club within a month of ownership. Should we expect them to back up their words or not.
bluebruce Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Like the comments from Rovers fans slagging off Andy Cryer and the Lancashire Telegraph for running the story in the first place ...rightly so ! To be fair to him, he usually gets criticised for being nothing other than a club mouthpiece...then if he does anything else it seems he is still criticised.
PAFELL Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Like the comments from Rovers fans slagging off Andy Cryer and the Lancashire Telegraph for running the story in the first place ...rightly so ! Interesting. I cannot agree - although you are entitled to your opinion - that it was wrong for Andy Cryer to write the article. After all it is news about the club. He is only doing his job. We might not like what is written in the papers. But a reporter is only doing their job - reporting news. If the article is true we should be concerned. Who is in charge of transfers Sam or Kentaro? Are the Venky's / kentaro planning things without Sam. If they are and it is known about within the club. At this stage of the new owners club ownership, there are bound to be teething troubles. This could be one of those. Therefore it has been reported. Which gives everybody a chance to nip it in the bud or even continue. If it is the latter, then Sam will not be happy and Rovers could end up looking for a new manager. I also doubt if JW would be happy either as it appears in the article that he also is not involved.
bennyboyt11 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 A positive approach could be that Kentaro/Venky's bring us some exciting talent that Sam would have rather have gone for the established (ageing) Prem players.
BuckyRover Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 It's nothing new these days. Roman would speak to Arnesen before Carlo and John Henry would speak to Comioli (?) before Woy. Nothing to see here and I expect it to blow over without incident.
67splitscreen Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Who's Popovs mate,do you mean Lewandowski?.Rudnevs signed in the Summer,so he would be. Correct. Litex Lovech/Lech Pozan similar wrong country.
Torgeir Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I don't deny Carew has injury concerns, but you said he's been crocked more than Roque, when he's actually played a higher % of games since they both came to England. I said equal to or worse, which I admit was a slight exaggeration. Bottom line is they're both injury prone. Check Carew's games and you will see he never plays the full 90 minutes, he always limps off with something I just don't see why some are warm to the idea of signing Carew while saying it's too risky to bring RSC on loan based on his injury proneness. They more or less represent the same gamble in my eyes, a gamble I think is worth it if the contractual agreements are adjusted to the situation. In the past four years RSC and Carew have played 77 and 110 club matches respectively.
MikeB Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I think the fact that Venkys are talking to Kentaro stinks. This is, in my opinion, a terrible indictment upon the abilities and judgement of Messrs Allardyce, Williams and Finn. We might as well sack the scouting team. I hope that this is not the thin edge of the wedge. There are enough lunatics 'running' football clubs - you only need to see the recent sackings of Wilkins at Chelsea and now Houghton at Newcastle,
