Fife Rover Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 News in Portugal about Witsel claim the deal between Benfica and Standard Liege will be finalised today. The price mentioned is between €7.5 million and €9 million I wonder what that is in pounds at TODAY's exchange rate. Yesterday the Euro slipped very badly against the pound.

thenodrog Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Rovers were after Witsel. Two kind of bids were made. Witsel's agents are 'advisers' of the club, so they would be aware of all developments. No excuse. Repeat. No excuse. Just as an aside if you were in a position to buy players for a Prem club would you be prepared to pay transfer fees which will be written off completely in 3-4 years? If so why? It's a facet of football thats baffled me since the Johnny Bosman affair.
davulsukur Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 just to let you know samba hasn't been at brockhall yesterday and today Really? Where you hear that?
CrazyIvan Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Really? Where you hear that? Reading his tweets, that's not true at all...
Fraserkirky Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 excellent player, currently available +++++++++++ Brazilian and very marquee------DIEGO???
andyroversmad Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Says on SSN west ham consider Parker loan move. After missing out on JJ and Witsel would Rovers be interested ?
Athlete Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 maybe the excuse is he thinks benfica is better for him, they can offer more than we can,(european football), just cause we been in for a player doesn't mean he wants to come here benfica may be in Europe but which is the better league the portugese or the premiership ???
roverandout Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 looks like samba is off then, couldnt blame him. He must be looking at what is going on with rovers lack of transfer activity and be thinking he could do alot better. I would do the same if i was him. The owners clearly arent ambitious enough,
True Blue & White Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Can I clarify something... Tony Warner Benjani Baez ..a lot of people keep saying we have 'signed' these three people when there is no confirmation anywhere, not on the Rovers site, not on their respective clubs' sites and not even on Wikipedia. So have we actually signed any of these three and if so why hasn't it been confirmed yet? Have we lost our web team to Man Cuty as well?

hawkiiz Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 just to let you know samba hasn't been at brockhall yesterday and today Looks like he was playing A LOT of Fifa11 on PS3 last night...
Athlete Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 If not we should be totally agree if were mauling about for bargains and loans that is one loan player I wouldnt hesitate to go for.....
True Blue & White Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 The loan in question was to Chelsea (to replace Essien who is out for the year), we have no chance.
Oklahoma Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 looks like samba is off then, couldnt blame him. He must be looking at what is going on with rovers lack of transfer activity and be thinking he could do alot better. I would do the same if i was him. The owners clearly arent ambitious enough, He has been looking for a transfer for a long time now!!!!! Long time before the Venky's bought the club. As for ambitious, maybe they are. But being ambitious doens't mean being stupid. So, if your team has little money, it's best to spend it wisely. What would you call Bebe's transfer to United last season? It was ambitious (£10 million) but very stupid. I still consider it as a payoff to some agent.
pancini Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Love how the Pavone story has been knocking around now for well over 12 hours then all of a sudden skysports understand http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7034817,00.html
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I don't think we need to spend a lot of money to improve the team, and I don't think we will either. If you imagine we signed 3 players on 30k a week (free), all on 3 year contracts, that is basically the Phil Jones money spent. The likes of Pavone, and Owen Hargreaves could add to the squad without costing a fortune. Imagine if we paid 8m for a player on big wages? if he was to fail we would lose a lot of money. History shows how expensive european flops can be Blackburn with Darwen is the 17th most deprived area in the uk, yet the fans of the football club seem to be more affluently minded towards their football club than any other. Insanity!
True Blue & White Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Samba said on his twitter last night he needed a rest but would be 'twitter all day' today, but he's not said anything yet. cs4christsamba1 Samba Christopher I rest for tomorrow . Twitter all day
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 13, 2011 Moderation Lead Posted July 13, 2011 I think what people need to understand is, if we strengthen the squad without spending a ton of money, surely that's a good thing money saved?? Who cares if they come on a free or not, especially if they work out! If not, we've not wasted a colossal transfer fee!
Roversi Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Anyone else reckon this pavone will end up becoming a cult hero, i reckOn he will score some important goals for us this season

Twitter all day I think he meant he wast going to bed because he had been on twitter all day (playing Fifa11 against his followers)
leerovers1980 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 benfica may be in Europe but which is the better league the portugese or the premiership ??? how many Portuguese teams were in the europa league final and also the semi, also portugal or sunny north west england I know what I would choose, Benfica are by far a bigger club than rovers and always will be, got to get your rovers goggles of and look at the bigger picture

Benji told the LET that a deal had been agreed, club has not announced it yet. A few people have said Warner was/is in talks but nothing has happened, i dont know if we are still trying to agree anything with him, Baez isn't listed on the site nor did he play in the recent reserve friendly, so they are all a bit of a mystery.
roverandout Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 artisformallyknownas, what are you talkig about? dont need to spend alot of money to improve the team? we need at least 5 or 6 quaility siginings to even make midtable. Where do you think rovers would finish if we only spent limited money? because i know where we would finish, bottom 6. We have lost two of out best players from last season, we have no strikeforce and no midfield. Are you one of these that thinks rovers will be pushing for europe next season and go on a cup run? No wonder venkys arent putting their hands in their pockets when they hear posts like that. We need to improve a very average squad greatly otherwise i darent think of the alternative.
