BangkokRover Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 They are also reporting that Jermaine Jones won't be returning because his club want to keep him and are asking silly money for him. Surprise Surprise the ship is sinking.

my_name_is_Earl Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Very worrying times at Rovers all round and to be honest, it doesn't really just concern our current 'laughable' position regarding how we bring players in. What continues to worry me is that our ship is rudderless. All through the club, we look defragmented and nobody really knows who's supposed to be doing what. This is a conclusion drawn from several sources and not simply just from Nicko and Kamy. Okay the Venkys are still relatively new, and a new period often brings a bit of uncertainty so the Venky's can still turn this situation around. The worry is that they cannot see what most of the fans see, in that the club lacks direction, efficiency and organisation. It really is as simple as that, no matter how you dress it up. I haven't given up hope on Venky's but they really need to turn things round if they are to win my vote. I can't see us signing anybody in the near future, just for the record, certainly not anyone who will walk into our first team.
rovers_rob Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 The LT is reporting that Benjani will sign a new contract for the Rovers despite not going to Austria. That should be positive news for anybody! They are also reporting that Jermaine Jones won't be returning because his club want to keep him and are asking silly money for him. Also in the LT is Mrs D ruling us out of the running for Robbie Keane and insisted the club aren't going for big name signings but she remains confident that we will sign some good strikers and a defender in the next 2 weeks. I think it is time to come back down to earth and forget about 50 million and big name signings. If we can get 2 or 3 players in and not lose anyone else then I will be happy. If that means getting some free transfers then so be it. Venkys look like they have learned a lesson in the last couple of weeks about fees and wages and are going to take a more cautious approach, much like the Trust have done in the last few years. Where that leaves Kentaro I'm not sure but if it means we are not going to bet the ranch then I am happy with that. With 2 or 3 decent signings I think we can aim for a top 10 finish.
roversmum Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Think back to the last four games of last season and imagine playing without the two Jones- scary thought! That is my worry, Philip. They made such a difference. Hope we don't have to learn the hard way...
BangkokRover Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Whether Venkeys are new or not, they should be intelligent enough to get the best people in to protect their investment and to protect the Venkeys brand. If they want to loan players that is fine and if they want to try and turn the club in to a money making machine for themselves again fine(if not impossible) About the only positive to come out of the transfer window so far from a Rovers point of view is the fact we did not get Demba Ba, his wages are ridiculous. But there is still time left in the windows so I guess we should keep our chins up and see what happens.
budha Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 About the only positive to come out of the transfer window so far from a Rovers point of view is the fact we did not get Demba Ba, his wages are ridiculous. According to nicko they're £40k/w + £20k/game, which sounds preeetty reasonable, especially on free, compared to the likes of Cisse's £80k/w + £10M+ fee.
Mattyblue Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Twenty grand ON TOP of your wage each time you actually do your job and play a game of football. Haha, the modern game is insane.

budha Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 So up to £100k a week if he plays twice, how on earth can Rovers afford that! If he would stay fit, he could be playing something like 40 games a season. Which effectively would mean less than £60k/w spread across the whole season.

The only problem i can see is that if we are not moving for big names or splashing £30 - £50 million, Samba isn't going to want to stick around. With Wenger under some pressure at Arsenal i can see him making a move for him once Nasri and Cesc have left the club. But you are right, maybe we have all just been brought back down to earth (with a massive crash btw) It was fun while it lasted but lets be fair any money the owners stick in, is still more than trust did.
rovers_rob Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 That is my worry, Philip. They made such a difference. Hope we don't have to learn the hard way... I agree that JJ will be a huge loss, but 10 million (according to Mr Cryer) for a 29 year old is way out of our price range, even if we did have 50 million to spend I would still think that 10 million is to much. Like nicko said Venkys need to get there transfer budget sorted, whether that is 10 million including wages or whatever, it needs sorting asap so players in the right price bracket can be found.
True Blue & White Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Venky's have to be the first owners I have ever heard of that include wages as part of the transfer budget. It shouldn't be surprising though as when they failed to spend the promised £5m in January their apologists on here had to use RSC's wages to show they did spend over the five mil'. Wages and transfer fees are two separate costs and should be treated differently. For a start most players have bonuses and incentives built in (goal bonuses, appearance fees etc) as well as the fact a good player (like P.Jones for example) won't always see out their contract so you can't say exactly how much a player will cost the club in wages anyway.
2PAC 4 Blackburn Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Can someone lend the family a copy of champ manager to practice on? Maybe get some experienced people in to run the club in the mean time?
booth Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 If he would stay fit, he could be playing something like 40 games a season. Which effectively would mean less than £60k/w spread across the whole season. And don't forget when there's a break, and over the Summer, he goes down to his (basic?!) wage of 40k. He will also have an incentive to play well as there will be more pressure on him to be dropped if he doesn't pull his weight.
Hughesy Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Still no news on Hoilett?? Has he joined up with the lads in Austria as he didn’t have international duty?? LT suggest Schalke want £10m for J Jones….which if true, we are doing right by leaving alone. I think IF we are limited to £26m inc wages then we should snap up Reo-coker on a free. That would then allow us to spend the money on 2 strikers, another midfielder and possible a defender.

Not just Samba, we haven't got Junior's signature yet either. It takes far far greater expertise than anyone at Rovers now has to shop effectively in the basement and end up with a Premier League quality squad. Add in the problem of lack of any decision making structure hampering the clinical incisive move before the market knows player X is available. Looks like Balji has had his dreaming stopped. Two weeks did she say? You then have to manage them to perform to potential. This is seriously scary.

It shouldn't be surprising though as when they failed to spend the promised £5m in January their apologists on here had to use RSC's wages to show they did spend over the five mil'. Failed? Chimbonda released £3.5m for Formica + Wages £1m for Rochina + wages RSC & Jones - £150k a week combined. Id say they pretty much spent every penny of that £5m, almost all of it on fees alone!

ABBEY Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Can someone lend the family a copy of champ manager to practice on? Maybe get some experienced people in to run the club in the mean time? that's the frigging problem Barry white venky has been playing it too Much like a lot in here and his problem is he only has the 04 version! PUT UP TIME VENKYS
RovertheHill Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Whilst this is a tad disappointing it's only "back down to earth with a crash" if you let yourself get carried away in the first place. It has been refreshing that certain people who deify Sam have not been posting for a while (banned/taken a break?), but the problem is that if we are going back to the old operating model then the two people who actually made that work relatively well have gone - JW and SA. We are going to struggle without a driving force in midfield and a striker that can hit a cow's a*se with a banjo
Hughesy Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Were there any loan fees paid to Schalke as well for Jones? Its a good point, and most Loans usually do attract a fee too....so possibly. More than anything in this window - I really hope we find a good mifielder (possibly better than J Jones) and address our goal scoring problems.

We need a midfielder who cna keep hold of the ball, and can pass and open some doors, another central defender, and 2 strikers who can finish with pace - not much of an ask eh ! Our spine / core of the team needs to be strenghened
Black Burn Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I think Hardly has made a somewhat valid point. Most people are taking Kamy and Alan Nixon's words as the gospel and absolutely and utterly believing every word they say. Now, I am in no way suggesting that they are leading us on or unreliable, and I mean no offense to the either of them, but I'm sure they have made mistakes in the past before. Alan Nixon's sticking his neck out that 45-50 million pounds being spent this window comes to mind. Sure, he might be right at the point of time and he was definitely telling the truth as he saw it, but the point is that even he is not infallible. Journalists do make mistakes sometimes. And double standards much? You believe everything Kamy and Alan Nixon tell you, gobble their snippets of information like facts on a computer buffet, but when an article comes out saying how Ms Desai assuring us that the deals are expected to be done over the next 2 weeks you brand the writer, the spokesperson or Venkys a liar. I am not saying Alan Nixon and Kamy are liars, but I do wonder what's with this double standard of glorifying their every word as truth and putting on your anti-Venkys glasses and judging all other information as lies. Of course I am not suggesting you take all those articles as facts or gospel either, but seriously? Why not treat all sources of information the same, whether it's from Alan Nixon, Kamy or the Mumbai Daily? With a pinch of salt. No disrespect to Kamy and Alan Nixon, and I apologize to them if they feel offended, but I'm pretty sure from an objective point of view it's only fair to treat their information the same as everything else - with a pinch of salt. I have no doubt they are trustworthy people but they are not Gods sitting up high on Heaven and having an omnipotent view over Venkys and the committee. They can only report stories as they see it, and being human what they see and hear are pretty limited especially if they aren't part of the staff. So let's not fall into despair and begin flaming, slamming and blaming Venkys before the truth is out there. Other than Alan Nixon and Kamy, I'm not sure if I have seen any other sources indicating that there is trouble at Blackburn or Venkys. I am not saying Alan Nixon and Kamy are wrong and I do believe them to the same extent I believe every other published articles on the Daily Mail or Lancashire Telegraph, but the trouble begins when you start believing one source more than the others and if you had an agenda to begin with you would be selectively believing sources, especially those that are of anti-Venkys sentiment, and begin ignoring the rest.
