Roversi Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 pleased with ibisevic, when the word spread that we might get him i was wondering how we could afford him but 6 million is a top top price for a player of his calibre. just shows how shockingly bad the prices have been inflated in the english game. 6 mill will get you a european striker with top level experience and good calibre, whilst here in england, 6 mill would get you a prolific championship striker. thats the exact reason for the amount of forgieners in our game.

Tricky Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 It's the new Venky's cloak of secrecy, it's the future!! could still be flops tbf
Ossydave Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hope so. Got an invite to the match on Saturday, will take it up if we have a couple of new boys on show, otherwise, sounds like Cheshire Oaks ! Went the other week - 2 for £40 in the penguin shop on polo's, 2 for £50 on knitwear, worth goin just for that. Some decent trabs in the Adidas outlet too.
Kamy100 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Two deals? What about John is he not due in tomorrow. He is due tomorrow or over the weekend, he played last night and has travelled back to Dallas with the rest of his team today. Hopefully he will be over soon, from knowing nothing about him, been talking to MLS fans and everyone of them have said very good things about him. Lansbury - Kean wants him, but I don't think that we are at a stage yet where a offer has been accepted, the negotiating team have been working flat out on other deals over the last few days, hopefully they will turn their attention to Lansbury once these other deals are concluded.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Watch this vid of Ibisevic & his mate....we need them both!!! Veda's goals take up the 1st 5 1/2 mins
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Ibisevic is a huge gamble, major knee injury (ACL) and has been suffering a few injuries since then. But when you look at our budget he is the sort of gamble we have to take.

donnermeat Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 could still be flops tbf This is true, but that has nothing to do with the fact that whoever at the club has done a good job of keeping the deals off the radar. Which is what my post was about.
chaddyrovers Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 when is Ibisevic medical taking place??? Here is what Kean said today in his press conference http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p00jgwts About 8 minutes in Kean starts talking.

I have to say I am not very impressed with his goal scoring record, OK its better than Roberts but is that really saying much? Oh well at worse he can keep Vince company in the medical teams room.
tony gale's mic Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 So two of the players are Vukicevic and Ibisevic who are having medicals, whos the third one Kean was referring to who has a little bit of Premier League experience who is having a medical too? Yep according to what Kean told us someone else is having a medical who has limited PL experience. Could that be Lansbury or is there someone we haven't a clue about? Possibly Boyata?

Josh Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 To be fair you can't really judge a players goal scoring record until he's played in the league, look at Shevchenko, arguably one of the best strikers of all time and he struggled in England. Some players adapt better than others

Some players adapt better than others Shev was on the way down before he came to England. Of course I hope the guy does well just that past performance does not suggest he will set the league on fire.
mattyc2422 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Players return from ACL's in basketball and Australian Football all the time, most with little residual impact. I'm not too worried about the lads injury.
tony gale's mic Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I think realistically if Ibisevic contributes 12 league goals a season that will be worth the money we paid, especially since we seem to have got a few goal scoring midfielders. Looking at his record apart from that one amazing half season I don't think he'll be a 20 goal a season striker. With these new signings though you'd think Dunny's days at the club are numbered. We now have Formica, N'Zonzi, Vukcevic and Petrovic all as senior players, together with Grella if you'd like to count him as when fit he can do a job. There's also Lowe coming through who is a decent prospect too. If we can get a couple of million for Dunn then I wouldn't be averse to selling him.
farhanology Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 One of Wilson/ Boyatta/ Lansbury? But we have made a bid for Onuoha and also another player with limited premiership experience. That suggests to me a RB, a holding midfielder. Or a backup striker if Raul does not materialize. Any leads? Someone mentioned Luke Wilkshire a day ago, he has limited PL exprience for Boro: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Wilkshire Unless its Danny Wilson, but then why hush about the medical tomorrow as surely news has been broken here first?
Backroom DE. Posted August 18, 2011 Backroom Posted August 18, 2011 Ibisevic and Vukcevic are both players that will improve our team and are coming in at an excellent price. Good business by Venky's. A couple more decent signings and this window will look okay, though it would have been nice to have had these deals wrapped up before we started losing valuable points.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Roberts has taken 5 seasons to bag us 24 league goals, Ibisevic has managed 23 in his last 2 seasons, 42 goals in 2 1/2 seaons (08/09 he has 19 in 19 but then was out injured for full 2nd part of season). Demba Ba hasnt done too bad in England, they played in the same team. In the last 3 seasons Veda has scored 2 more (10/11), 7 more (09/10), 4 more (08/09) than Ba in the same side.....a midtable side.
Blue+whitepussface Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Very true an Acl injury would have been a career ending injury 10 or so years ago. Not nowadays with modern medical technicques.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 3 permanents, possibly 4 and then loans American defender in for medical tomorrow, Vukcivic already done 1 day of his 2 day medical, and striker expected too. Il guess the 4th will be Lansbury.......2 loans - Boyatta & Wilson and then a last minute attempt for Raul again perhaps

Sverre Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Vukcivic Ibisivic Petrovic Goodwillie John + + + Rochina Formica And hopefully Samba will stay. His pricetag is said to be around 16 million... Although we will probably see a slow start to the season, I'm definitely feeling optimistic!
