I know someone who went to their gig at the 100 Club earlier this year Gav. He said it was the best gig he’d been to in many a year! (And he’s not even a punk really)

Saw Ross Noble at Leamington yesterday. Not music but he was brilliant. His pitch for getting a musical version of The Human Centipede starring Elaine Page was hilarious.

I went to see Richard Hawley tonight at Sheffield City Hall. A more humble, down to earth chap you’re never likely to meet, he can hold a tune and play a guitar too!

I wasn’t aware his god father was Joe Cocker. Richard said Joe never hung around the house due to music, but because he fancied his mum and fit radiators with his dad for the gas board 🤣 But he did say his dad introduced Joe to his first Ray Charles record and the rest is history

I love Richard. Every time he plays the Barrowlands he tells the story of him being conceived in the dressing rooms there!!

He is indeed excellent. I’ve seen him a few times, the last at Lytham Festival a couple of years ago.

I know Joe Cocker’s brother Vic, who somewhat bizarrely was Chief Executive at Severn Trent Water for a number of years. I could never get him to talk about Joe though. All he would say is that “he’s his own man”.

They are Playing Halifax next year, but I doubt they’ll be playing this one.

The Beach Boys, as currently set up have not been worth seeing for a long time. Mike Love managed to get the rights to the name a long time ago and has been peddling a greatest hits band since then.
The real genius was Brian Wilson and the band that he took back on the road was essential viewing, right from when he recreated Pet Sounds up to redoing Surf’s Up. I saw him at Glastonbury in 2005 but then outstandingly at the Festival Hall and then the Empire in Liverpool in the same week. Either of those was as good a gig as I have ever seen. Sadly, now Brian has gone, nothing purporting to be the Beach Boys is worth seeing.

All three Wilson brothers are dead, with Carl and Dennis having been dead for decades. 

When Brian had his breakdown Carl took over as the leader of the group. 

Without the Wilson brothers involved it's not the Beach Boys.

We have the Phil Spector Xmas album on every year. I’m not a Beach Boys fan. They made some great records over the years but they aren’t for me. I feel the same about Stevie Wonder, Queen, Elton John, Bowie and many more.

Maximo Park, Sleaford Mods, Elvana, Geese, Super Furry Animals, Foo Fighters, Alanis Morissette, Pet Shop Boys, CMAT, Kendal Calling (although the line-up's a bit shit - especially the headliners), The Cure.

Ha, how views differ- there was more than enough to get my teeth into at Kendal I thought.

Two Door Cinema Club, The Cribs, The Coral, Doves, The Vaccines, The Libertines, Wolf Alice and Groove Armada.

My only complaint with Kendal is that there wasn't nearly enough electronic music and it seemed a bit underprepared when I went, though granted, the last time I was there was 2017, so nigh on a decade ago!
