Ulrich
All they ever focus on fitness wise in football is recovery. If all you ever focus on is recovery, then you are obviously not fit for purpose. CR9 is a great example of how much longer a player could play if they took a more professional approach to their health and fitness, 38 and still he was performing in the supposedly most intense league in football. Amalgamation of CR7 and R9 would be some fucking player!
Ossydave
They definitely try and apply too much science these days. There's allsorts of other variables on top of all this guff. Genetics rather than age play a massive part in someone's ability to perform. It's quite easy to get qualified in sports science, much like ite even easier to class yourself as a qualified personal trainer. Anyone who's decent at either knows how much plans are tailored to individuals though rather than what they read in a textbook. There's allsorts of supplements out there too, some which will be close to the banned category, which can massively benefit players.

Yes and no. He became a very lazy player as he got older - Utd wanted rid because he wasn't willing to close anyone down, preferring to conserve his energy for attack. Also he's a psychopath. A PT does a 5 day training course, focused mainly on exercise technique, sports science takes 3 years and covers far more than how to lift. Personally even as a member of the public I would not touch a PT for anything health or fitness wise. Sports science has flaws too, you either become a physiologist, psychologist or a nutritionist and yet players need all 3. Those 3 aspects are highly intertwined and yet the majority don't understand how they interact. Understanding that is critical, I could change your diet and depress you, make you cleverer, run further, lift more weight and this interactiveness is missed when you only study one aspect. Yep CR7, shows how much attention I pay to football these days 😂😂 Edited March 15, 2023 by Ulrich

But this bloke spoke about tailoring the 'chronic performance' to an individual. Not all players will have the same sprints, change of directions, distance covered etc
