You could argue that although the club was founded 1875 that they made do with white as it was easier to get hold of and may of cost more to develop a coloured kit especially in quarters, costly workmanship which is why the odd halves makes sense as they just threw them together cheaply. I don't know just throwing ideas 😊

Just my opinion but if we played 140+ years in blue and white. Let's have blue and white as a shirt on the 150th year anniversary.

It’s like someone organising my funeral and needing a photo to represent my life, and they choose a picture of a girlfriend I dated for a year instead of my wife of over sixty years. Utterly baffling. 🤣

It certainly wasn't a criticism...it was an observation that we seem to be looking for a stick to beat the club with & I suspect you too are exasperated at the circular nature of this discussion 😉

A few players with certain Midland public school connections may well have worn a Maltese Cross, certainly an interesting tidbit.

Because it has been documented (albeit only in writing) that it was our 1st badge...

It was only awarded to players who had attended the said private schools,it was not the Clubs first Badge Ian.

I agree with this entirely - the kit consultation group (that was almost entirely ignored) made this exact point...I wanted the Bob Crompton shirt for our anniversary kit...we might have to do a BRFCS version then eh ? 😉

Not answered my question:

So even if it was very briefly a badge for some players, in possibly a white shirt,  why has the entire anniversary season been built on that mere foot note, not 148 other years of history and achievement? I.e said achievements in blue and white?

Someone at the club (probably in marketing) has said something along the lines of

Marketing Guru: "If we market another blue & white halved shirt it won't sell as well as a differentiated product will...there is a belief that we wore a white shirt once...we should produce a white shirt as the anniversary kit then we don't cannibalise sales of this season's home kit..."

SP: "Make sure you bump the price..."

MG: "On it..."

Well I'm writing off their blunder I genuinely can't be arsed dwelling on it anymore,the big voices amongst our fan base spoke out and threw a ton of ideas forward to make this not only a memorable occasion but to produce a shirt that will get people excited and wanting to own a piece of history.

Theres been nothing in the club shop, the game is Saturday, nothing was even marked anywhere for yesterday, no happy birthday no fk all. Theyve really soured the xelebration completely. 

if stocks last ill be buying one off @Herbie6590 soon, and marking our 150th in my own way by putting my arse in JW upper and having the day off from all the junk these owners have produced for us. 

It's our heritage and we should be proud. 15 years is a long time yes but not a patch on our triumphs and heroes that have all come before us. 

 

And our first chant on Saturday ought to be "Goin down the Bolton road to see the Blackburn Aces" to honour all the fans over 150 years that wear Blue and White with pride.

On a separate but related note...if BRFCS sold a "Bob Crompton*" shirt for £60  - could I bank on at least 50 of you buying it ?

Absolutely spot on, and a big yes to the BRFCS version. That’s exactly the kind of shirt I was hoping for! It's sad that the club didn't listen to the fans - they'd have got it right. I even remember the Rovers shop selling similar adult pyjamas about ten years ago, which would have been a better option!!

I’m not trying to dismiss our history - the founding years are, of course, a vital part of the club’s identity - but if you’re going to celebrate that heritage, at least do it with a shirt that fans can instantly recognise, especially since none of us were around in 1875. It’s also a great opportunity to sell loads and bring in much-needed revenue for the club. And maybe don’t wear an all-white kit when facing Derby, who also are well known to play in all white! 😂

Surely it's a nod to those founding members in 1875.  A celebration of the club's foundation and the men who gathered to form the club.  The club have been aware of those original minutes and have acknowledged them with a kit that those original founders envisaged in 1875. Personally, I think it's a fitting tribute.

The original minutes and Books have been sadly lost to time..all early references point to Blue n White Quaters...early written evidence has been given to support this.The earliest known Team Photo supports this.

With all respect,not once in any of your History Books are all White Shirts mentioned.

I don’t normally grow it out because blond mo’s with my big glasses look a bit noncey 😅
