I’d have to see the lad play before I comment further but defensive midfield players like Tronstad are born and not made. You need to have the right mentality to play that role.

I appreciate that it is a completely different level, but Edmondson does play as a lone deep lying midfielder for Macclesfield, flanked by 2 more attacking midfielders, so the setup at least is comparable to Tronstad being flanked by Cantwell & Morishita

We need to find what role Tavares is going to play

Have you been watching any of our games? He's the most limited footballer I've seen for Rovers probably ever, and we've had Chris Brown.

He is absolutely wank.

sidnei is the same standard as herold goulon and hope akpan,i,.e clucking useless,he`s worse than jason lowe imo and thats a very low bar,we now know why he barely complete a game for morinense

Jason Lowe is another level to Tavares, Sidnei not fit to lace Jason's boots.

Let's be honest, neither Ribeiro nor Pickering are lwb's they haven't the pace or physical attributes to play the position.

Hedges is probably the same as well but is the best option of the three at the moment, although I agree that Powell should be challenging that position soon.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a lwb come in the window as it looks like Pickering and Hedges could soon be leaving (if Hedges doesn't agree a new contract).

De Neve is proof you have to have defensive awareness as a LWB. Of the current squad, I don’t think any are suited to that role, but Pickering is possibly my preferred choice of the 4 options. Followed by Hedges. It’s not like he’s cumbersome going forward, just limited.

However it is fairly obvious he will leave due to wages and rubbing Gestede / Pasha up the wrong way. If we were mid table fine, but in a relegation battle not using your best assets is shocking and could prove very costly (See Nelson, Ryan)

Joint 7th best defence in the league

joint 20th worst attack in the league

that tells its own story

We've probably got the best defence in the league before 88 minutes, but we've no resilience, game management, 'match IQ' or whatever we want to call it, which has stemmed from poor investment in players and managers.

The De Neve experiment has failed they tried to take a cheap left footed punt and make him into a LWB because he had good running stats.

Clearly not a defensive clue in his head at this level so maybe try him in his more natural position occasionally, otherwise throw the towel in and get rid.

Don’t disagree but just stating that a lot of our issues are the inability to put the ball or have the quality to put the ball in the back of the net especially when on top in games, which then in turn would make for easier last 10mins of games

our recruitment has been about 50% correct which isn’t good enough I agree and I also have reservations regarding the manager but my post was in relation to the defence which actually isn’t our biggest problem

Recruitment at this level with no money and serious competition from so many similar clubs is always tough and always throws up a few duds.

It can all be helped though by a Head Coach knowing the parts he needs for his machine and obviously having a good connection with the clubs recruitment dept and directors.

Some players who can only do one job can be moulded into a side or squad when blended with others, Trav a great example.

If feel we've missed that so often here because the focus has always been first and foremost fit players in who can be developed and increased in value rather than build the best first 11 you possibly can.

That amongst other things has seen the last 2 gaffers walk and has now landed us fighting relegation.  It's about time finally some lessons were learned and the focus switched.

It needn't cost the earth.

Absolutely.

But it's ok for the Irish. Who is going to drive the snakes from Ewood?

** we have the best record by minutes played as whilst we’ve one fewer match
we haven’t conceded in over two hours of abandoned games either. 🤔🧐

I try to give players a chance so I think up to Xmas is a ‘fair enough’ period of time to judge players/new signings

de neve - F - hasn’t worked out clearly league one level at best

Tavares - F - see above

Henriksson - D - reckless has shown small glimpses not sure champ football is for him liked the profile but isn’t working out

Gardner Hickman - C - solid but not spectacular decent to have in the squad plays better with tronstad in the team can’t lead without him

Miller - B - like him looks a decent pick up been solid and I think will only improve

Morishita - B - 4 goal contributions finding his feet decent pick up

McLaughlin - B+ - excellent pick up been impressed - not faultless by any means but can tell of the signings his experience has been crucial

Gudjohnsen - A - goalscorer and looks it big second half of the season (hope the hammy isn’t too bad)

Alebiosu - A+ - been player and signing of the season for us I didnt think Brittain would easily be replaced but he has made it look that (as close as can be as Brittain is a top 3/5 rb in the league)

baradji - F - for signing an injured player when we needed fit and able players however on recent appearances I’d say could end up being B - decent level if injury free

Val - C - jury still out for me on the manager however there have been some massive misfortunes out of his control and the league table might look a little better.

Jan needs - rb/rwb / cb / cm / striker

offload - Gueye him and Val clearly don’t get on - de neve not good enough henriksson maybe loan out

pickering seems on his way which is a shame always liked him

tyjon is anyone’s guess

Hard to argue with the Michaelmas end of term report, but the picture is made even worse, when you consider the quality and experience that was jettisoned..presumably for not being "aligned".

Still, I do confess to being excited by the recent glimpses of Baradji...
