  1. Mashed Potatoes

    Jim Smith RIP

Sad news coming out that Jim Smith has passed away. A good manager and a good football man
  2. With the draw for the third round of the FA Cup this evening which team would Rovers fans like to face? Personally I would like a big club at Ewood probably the way they are playing Man Utd. Giant killing on the cards.
  3. waggyjunior

    japan 2002

anyone know were i could find the thread on this
  4. From a Bristol City follower, hope as many of you can make the journey on saturday 30th November Firstly THERE WILL NO PAY ON THE DAY and this will NOT be changed. So please buy your match day tickets on saturday if your heading to the home game against Derby Coming by road. Do NOT USE M4/M32 route and don't try to negotiate the roads and streets of Bristol YOU WILL GET LOST Parking is normally in the streets around the area as long as you are there by 1pm please don't block drive ways or park on corners. If you are coming by train there is a local train service to PARSON STREET from Bristol Temple Meads Good train times as most trains from the North as well as the London direction arrive at quarter past the hour and quarter to the hour it takes you two thirds of the way to the ground and walk the rest of the way You will pass Sainsburys on the left with restaurant,Robins pub again on your left hand side When you approach the ground I suggest you walk past wickes using the pavement as the concourse area behind the big new stand gets very congested with bodies Any less you want to look at the John Atyeo statue Please make sure you get your train ticket showing PARSON STREET We are trying to promote PARSON STREET for football fans till Ashton gate halt comes on line. Split train tickets are available to Bristol(parson street) If there are at least three of you arriving by train get a taxi Make sure the taxi driver drops you in the Ashton Road end as it a very long walk round from the other end Casualty and Holby City were filmed in the City don't ask me about either of the programmes cos I think their both rubbish The young ones was also filmed in the BS7 area of the City(actually its Bishopston) Finally the block of flats on the left behind the dolman stand side as you are in the away end is "the" block of flats in "fools and horses" Bring your camera and turn up early if you want to take any photo's Pubs possibly best one are in the cumberland road basin area novia scotia pump house and the cottage. Buy your match day programme before you enter the away end. Radio commentary be on BBC radio Bristol on DAB should be on 94:9fm as well We now have two big screens at the Gate, so if you have bad eyesight sit on the far left hand side as you look at the pitch. The match is shown while the game is in play and some replays but no controversial incidents. Pubs: best ones are along the Cumberland Roads area, suggest park your car and then walk to the ground. Please circulate to any other football forums and footy fans you may deem fit If you need any further info, don't be afraid to ask.

    Blues Bar

I see the club have announced that the Blues Bar will cease to open each day and instead will be just matchday and functions. Anyone heard any more about this? I assume just another Waggott cut and downsizing job. Surely in an era of Ffp and non matchday income this sort of thing is important? I was told previously that the Blues Bar was run separately to the club e.g. wasnt covered by Northcote and that was why they could charge sensible(ish) prices for food and drink.

  8. You may recall John as a guest on Episode 112 of the podcast, well the book can now be ordered from deCoubertin Books following this link. The book is published on 27th November 2019. https://www.decoubertin.co.uk/rovers It focuses on 1991-5 mainly, but references other periods of Rovers glory including the Howard Kendall years to provide a comprehensive story that will delight old & young Rovers fans alike. Podcast link here:
  9. https://sportsrecents.com/en/blog/?p=109 not so sure about this one!
  10. This is an attempt to bring together discussions on a number of related issues. There can be few who can disagree the atmosphere at Ewood resembles a morgue (unless we are 3 up🤣). We have the issues of parts of the ground being closed; I understand the logic behind this but the application was not what should be expected of a professional organisation. This is not one for me as a bloke in his early 50’s but we need to come up with a proposal that the Club will support and one that builds atmosphere and lifts the players. Please note I am not saying anything about the football on the pitch. I understand the Club would be receptive to a fans initiative for say a safe standing area in the top corner (JW End) of the BBE Lower. This could, for example, be two blocks of say 15 to 20 seats depth. If for example this came from the fans (Fans Forum) with a suggestion that the fans play their part via crowdfunding a proportion of the cost (and new flags) it could well fly. Shrewsbury fans did this; if they can surely we can? Despite past actions and how these have been received the Club are desperate to improve the atmosphere and surprise surprise they know they do not have all the answers. is anyone prepared to take the initiative? Yet another poll perhaps🤔
  11. Good news! BRFCS has partnered with TheTerraceStore.com until the end of the season. As partners, all BRFCS members and podcast listeners will get access to an exclusive discount on their site - which sells retro football memorabilia. We've previously rejected sponsorship from numerous suppliers (vaping companies, gambling companies) but have chosen to partner with theterracestore.com because we truly love their products and hope you do too. If you are a customer, please make sure you enter our discount code - “BRFCS”. Not too much will change for you - you'll notice our logo now includes a direct link to their website and our homepage now features their products. As well as this, high traffic threads (match threads, transfer threads) will be brought to you through sponsorship from TheTerraceStore and you'll see advertising from them on this threads. Our podcasts will also include advertising from them too. As part of the deal, we will have exclusive discounts, offers and giveaways which we will keep you aware of via the podcast and the advertising in threads. As BRFCS is not for profit and all volunteers work for free to keep the site up, the funds raised will be spent on either advertising or upkeep costs. Thanks. 🙂
  12. As Secretary of the Fans Forum I have been approached by a documentary film maker today who is making a film for the BBC about young men's mental health issues and the role both playing and watching football can have. His email outlining the aims of the film is below. It is planned to show the film as part of the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup this year. If anyone is either interested in helping with this or knows someone who is can you please send me a private message and I will put you in touch. Obviously you don't have to be a member of the Fans Forum, or for that matter even a Rovers fan. This landmark film will focus on men’s mental health through the prism of football. The film hopes to highlight the fact that we all have mental health and encourage more men to feel comfortable talking about their mental health. One aspect we're looking at is how supporting a football team can have a positive impact on men that may be dealing with mental health issues. I'm travelling to Blackburn on Thursday next week to spend some time with a group called 'Blokes United' that arrange football meet-up sessions to any lads in the area that may need an outlet and some support. I thought it couldn't hurt to talk to some Rover's fans while i'm up there. If there were any members of the Rovers Fans Forum that you think may be interested in talking to us about the programme and if they had a story that they'd be interested in sharing, please feel free to pass on my details.

    Happy Kean Out Day

7 years to the day since the imposter left, as we continue to endure his rotten legacy. Well done and thanks to the “1%” who never gave up fighting and maintained the conditions which ultimately forced him out. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/19736471 https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2012/sep/28/steve-kean-resign-blackburn-rovers We won’t be rid of his stench until we are back in the PL but having worried that he would never go, the relief on 29th September 2012 was palpable. Never forgive, never forget.

    Lewis Holtby

Lewis Holtby situation has been referenced in the Summer Transfer Window thread, but as we're no longer in that window, and these is a bit of an 'odd one out' I feel as though it deserves its own thread. Yesterday Holtby was on the move, catching a flight to who knows where. How does everyone feel about his potential arrival?
  15. Could be a good move for all concerned. While he's here we're going to keep.playing him. Been a great player for us though

  24. Having tried to add appropriate news from that event into each thread I've decided to post all the info I gathered from the day into its own section. £1.3m refurbishments of all the hospitality lounges to take place over coming months Over £2m spent on Category One status for the Academy (further £1m was a grant from government) Significant amount (in the millions) spent on infrastructure at STC (analysis booths/scouting software) Premier Suite being done first after first international break, ready for third home game of the season European scouting network to continue to grow The new Sodexo food in the concourse is a little more expensive than the old stuff, but significantly more option Loaded fries one of the many new options available New LED/TV screens in food concourses and brand new EPOS till system Match/event themed prices and promotions on food due to new system will take place We've got a brand new pie manufacturer, smaller niche business in the local area All the concourses will be completed by Friday in time for Charlton game Elliott Bennett says Tosin Adarabioyo hasn't been introduced to the squad - they don't know what's happening with that one either Charlie Mulgrew says team are quietly hoping for a top 6 finish, and spoke specifically about his mentoring of Dan Butterworth and JRC Little mention of specifics but ideas still snowballing about The Riverside and plans for the future of the stand Plan is to have several 'One Rovers Day' type events like Stoke (H) last season and have lots of kids coming in for free again And finally, for anybody who does attend hospitality/boxes at Ewood, the new Sausage Rolls are ridiculously nice!
