I've got nothing against the club trying to unearth some gems from more obscure sources, I think it's potentially a good strategy and if a few come off then those involved deserve credit. The only thing that annoys me is the misleading of the transfer fee's. Seeing as we're not signing another CB, I'd say this will probably be the final perm signing of the window, any others will be young prem loans I think.

I'm starting to presume that what they've done is scrap most of the scouting folk and implemented some sort of AI protocol to identify players based on age/speed/estimated value using a filter function... I think there was talk of Sheffield United doing this. Genuinely being serious because it certainly looks that way to me.

I get the sentiment but what would it change? They aren't bothered. The club isn't important to them. We're just something that exists on their balance sheet that they have to discuss with their financial advisors once every quarter, maybe longer. Nothing more.

To be fair, Derby need to have ambition because they almost got relegated. Most Rovers fans would ideally want us to be more ambitious than re-signing the likes of Weimann, Batth and Dolan. It's unlikely we will improve on those given our lack of financial support of course.

To be fair, there's probably a few more reasons that that. He was never fully appreciated here and probably wanted a fresh start with a new set of fans. Busier stadium aswell. Probably chucked a few extra quid at him. More stability around the club. I see the why he'd want to move.

Got to be honest... If we were looking to spunk 8 million on a striker from the MLS I'd be pretty concerned. It just simply doesn't look like sensible business. Whilst I'd like Rovers to be showing more ambition I certainly wouldn't want them to be gambling big money on unproven players from shite leagues. Picking up players for 2-3 million I would argue is the way most championship clubs should be operating, with the exception of yoyo clubs. How many players are you going to sign in the championship that you can sell for massive money? Not many. If they sign this guy for 8 million what are the chances they could sell him for double? Not great IMO.

These transfer targets are weird and there's something I'm just not grasping. We're looking at a 27 year old unproven CB from a shit league for 2-3 million? What I'm guessing is its another Tavares type approach where we've likely offered about 800k upfront with the rest heavily dependent on add-ons. I'm not buying that we're spending this much up front for any of our targets. As much as Gestede will probably try to dress it up that way.

Agreed. To me it seems like a cheap signing in the thousands not the millions. On top of that they're trying to dress it up as some sort of coup for us. He was a squad player in a team that would probably struggle in the championship.
