So we spent the whole of last January transfer window chasing someone who now Mowbray is resigning to the U23s. If half that effort had been put into signing a centre half we might just stop shipping soft goals. And yet he doesn’t say a negative word about some of the other young players like Bell and Brereton who have had many a shocker.

I think the reason Leutwiler got a new deal was just to have a keeper in the building, Mowbray and Venus tried and failed miserably all summer to sign goalkeepers but ended up with a panic loan of Walton plus no one else. If we’d let Leutwiler go we’d have Fisher on the bench. Mowbray said he wanted experience in the goal. Yet we’re massively weaker. I don’t think he’s given a reason how this was let happen.

Rovers played well and were the better team throughout. The young team were knocking it around towards the end really nicely. Future is bright with these kids. Sadly, we gave away 2 of the softest goals I’ve seen away.

Rovers much the better side on the whole. Losing because we have a non league standard keeper in net. Dack and Armstrong starting to form some good understanding and playing well. I'm the first to hold my hands up as a critic of Mowbray's new style BUT it is good to watch and is starting to bed in. Buckley is quality he plays like the ball is glued to his foot. We can't defend crosses still. Smallwood should not be on the pitch, simple as that.

Genuine question; has Buckley played wide midfield for the U23s?

Bet Tony is desperate to put Tosin at RB to deal with Cardiff’s long balls. We’ll see if there’s been an agreement to only play him at CB.

I’m fairness to Bennett, he has zero protection down that right hand side. We’ve got no proper right winger covering back. Whereas Downing plays as a left winger ahead of Cunningham.

What an improvement on the left hand side! A solid left back and a proper left winger. Much much better. Right hand side still 2 players out of position...

Get Dack off he's not moving freely

Good to see Dack back to his best (almost) Downing real quality. Need to improve that final ball.

If we try to play like Barcelona then we've got no chance. Stick to our strengths and get Dack into the game.

It's hardly rocket science: top scorer and player of the year finally gets a start and wins the game for us. Why do we have to go through Mowbray's experiment phase at the start of every season?

Good to get 3 points. Pleased to see Buckley come on again. If he's as good as we're led to believe he needs to be getting game time. Hopefully he'll be the next Travis for us and make the step up.

£5m would have bought a top quality championship winger.

Yes we've definitely gone backwards. The weakest area of the pitch (defence) is now weaker and without any competition for places. The standout player in the first half of the season last year was Reed and he's not been replaced with anything near as good.

I think Mowbray is bluffing this week by saying that Lennihan is in contention. Fluid on the knee doesn’t sound like something that can be overcome in a week, and he’s not on the training pictures. I fear something like this from the Tombola 5-2-2-1 Walton Nyambe-Williams-Cunningham Bennett—————————Bell Johnson-Travis-Downing Dack Graham

Just look at the state of that defence! Possibly the worst since the days of Peacock and Daily. How has it come to this after a summer transfer window preceded by “defenders are coming “!!!??

It SHOULD be Graham again up front. But i've got a suspicion that Mowbray is under big pressure with the Gallagher signing so will keep playing him in the hope he eventually scores a goal or two. Plus he's had "long conversations" with Graham on it. If I were Graham i'd be pointing out that there's only him and Dack that score goals in this squad (Mulgrew aside).

Our squad players should be good enough to beat Oldham. The squad is a disjointed mess coming into this season. We're going backwards.

Given our threadbare defence I think we’ll see Mowbray forfeit the cup competitions as quickly as possible this season, rather than risk injuries.
