  1. Am I seeing things, or was there no segregation? When they scored there were celebrations amongst the crowd in different areas, imagine that these days.
  2. A manager from yester year would have offered him a contract and paid him and his agent a huge signing on fee, describing him, as the next Pele or something. At least we have to be thankful for small mercies, this lad has been sent back to the equivalent of the 7th or 8th tier, where he seems to belong.
  3. Not certain, but that might have been Grimsby. I think he was born there and something rings a bell abut him scoring two, in his home Town.
  4. I think we ended up with Ossie Ardiles too, around the same time.
  5. Duncan McKenzie, all those years ago. Pure quality, even at his age then.
  6. It was Salgado who I was referring to as well.
  7. I have an Irish Dad, can I sign please? Useless in the nets though, but does that matter?
  8. As you know, one former player did his very best to help with some of the stuff. I will respect that guy for the rest of my life, as he, unlike some did not take the money and run.
  9. For anyone, who hasn't seen it before, he is an example of what was going on at the club. What you have to remember when you watch this, is that the fans were blamed for not giving the player mentioned a chance. Was it just a coincidence that he is the son of an agent heavily involved at the club and did this player go on to make a career from himself, once he left our club and was no longer frozen out by the fans? Back then, there were some very questionable people around the club, who were able to manipulate people in high places and cover their tracks by being very clever and one step ahead. I know what my opinion is on those events and that's why I and many others who bothered finding out the truth, will never trust the current owners.
  10. I don't know if there is a link to the death threats, but if you read through all of the information on that blog, you will see plenty of fans names mentioned. I took it upon myself, a long time ago to speak to some of the people mentioned and that's how I found out about them. So either they didn't happen or some of the things said to me, were pure fiction.
  11. He did and there it is still all out there for all to see. I am sure some will bury their heads in the sand and suggest that Venkys were just badly advised, but things went a lot deeper than that. http://roversrevisited2.blogspot.com/2016/09/good-money-if-you-can-get-it.html
  12. For those who bothered to find out, what was going on in the first few years of Venkys ownership, most will know about the death threats and also other very untoward things. I have spoken at length to one individual, who was put through all sorts of personal trauma and who received a death threat. Someone has asked if it was reported to the police, well yes it was, but unfortunately it was never investigated properly. As many people will know, anyone who stood up to what was going on at the club back then were sorted in their own way. Whether you were the first team manager, a club executive, or simply a pesky fan getting too involved, it didn't really matter. I would suggest that's why the people who knew what was really going, on, will never rest, until the current owners are gone. http://www.sportingintelligence.com/2012/05/08/revealed-new-leaked-blackburn-letter-lays-bare-crisis-and-torment-inside-ewood-080501/
  13. I fully agree with that and wouldn't suggest making a judgement, based on one performance. It may well be that the Newport keeper wouldn't make the grade at a higher level, I was just pointing out that historically it has been done. If nothing else, it brought back some good memories, thinking of Jim Arnold. I had the pleasure of meeting him too and he was a great guy as well as a brilliant keeper.
  14. You are quite right and it is a very sad indictment of todays game. I just had a read, about Jim Arnolds career and he was even better than I remember. Granted he was back up, but he has a first division winners and European Cup winners cup medal amongst his collection. He kept a club record 19 clean sheets in our third division promotion season, under Howard Kendall and conceded only 29 league goals the following season in the old second division, when we lost out on promotion on that heart breaking day in Bristol. Not bad for a guy signed from Non league at that age.
  15. I wouldn't let that cloud your judgement, as Jim Arnold was 29 when we signed him from Non League Stafford Rangers. He was a quality keeper and followed the late Howard Kendall to Everton when he left us. I don't think he did much at Goodison, due to them also signing Neville Southall, but in my view was one of the best keeps we ever had.
  16. Hardly any of us on here have had to suffer the indignation of them lot lifting a major trophy, whilst most of their current fan base, so us lift the premier league and the league cup. Plenty of sings of that hurt all over the place, but they will never get that revenge, so tuff t1tty.
  17. I suppose it's a bit like going back in time to 1987 and applying todays rules. The team who finished 91st in the league this year, are now a non league club, so I guess you could say, we had better alter the record books to show all the teams who have finished in that lowly position spent some time in the conference. Fantasy land which ever way you look at it of course.
  18. Bolton won't be wound up, it is more likely that they will go into administration. The only chance of that not happening is if Bassini comes up with the funds and the EFL approval, in order to pay off the current owner. The guy is as mad as a box of frogs, but surely even he can see its a lost cause. The admin will mean a 12 point deduction for next season in league one and there are strong rumours, that a further 8 points could be deducted for the cancelation of the Reading fixture.
  19. I had a compound fracture of my tibia and fibula and the first movement I made after that was assisted by the paramedics, onto the stretcher.
  20. Brilliant. I have never heard that one, but just like in English, there are plenty of insults and slang terms around. I only know a few, but some of them are very funny.
  21. I haven't read all of your posts, although probably a large portion of them to be honest. You may have mentioned it before, but I didn't know you were a Ref. As I am studying Spanish, I now realise why you have that username. It must have been brilliant to have been stood next to Shearer that night and see him react to the song. Once it a lifetime type of experience no doubt.
  22. He does have another couple of years at championship level under his belt now and with his headless chicken reputation, fits in nicely with our owners.
  23. Yes I would imagine so, but this Anderson guy, doesn't seem to worry too much about that, as he was deemed fit and proper.
  24. Seems that Bolton have now missed paying pension contributions for their staff too.
