  1. I think this is an interesting point. He clearly highlighted a move towards a passing style but then he signed Bradley Johnson for example who had struggled adapting to that style at Derby. Hes much more suited to the old 4-4-1-1. When he speaks about players he tends over state their flexibility. That's why you end up with a situation where we have played for most of the season with wingers yet have no single natural winger (although downing used to be in his younger days). That's why I'm slightly enthusiastic about the 3 uptop we are trying because it actually suits Armstrong who is our main threat atm post dacks injury. The main teams I can recall him wanting to emulate are Brentford and Norwich. Now they had a different recruitment approach. Norwich pick up players from abroad on the cheap eg Bundesliga 2 but a lot of Brentford players were picked up as cast offs from the big prem clubs like dasilva and canos. They spread their money around too. Maybe he thought the likes of brereton and Gallagher could be moulded into the style he ends up on or that having versatile players gives him options if it doesn't work. But you look at those teams have they have an identity and a fixed idea so if they sign a player it's with a fixed idea of where they fit in. And we haven't been doing that.
  2. Walton Nyambe Lenihan Tosin Downing Travis Davenport Holtby Brereton Graham Armstrong
  3. Ive always thought Rothwell's natural position is on the left a 3 man midfield. Let's see if that's true.
  4. Walton Nyambe Lenihan Tosin Downing Travis Evans Holtby Brereton Graham Armstrong
  5. I'm not sure the holtby as a false 9 is going to be particularly successful. I thought Graham looked much better when he came on as a deep lying forward. Perhaps Holtbys role could be on the left of the midfield 3 if we stick with this formation. The 3 who played today were good today but they'll be opportunities to move him back there as the games come thick and fast.
  6. I usually agree as I dont tend to enjoy the games I illegally watch on ifollow as.much as being there but I did enjoy the game today. That may have just been the performance though or the fact I wasnt watching on my own but it was for me much better than no football at all.
  7. In centre mid we've got Travis, Johnson, Evans, Davenport, Downing, Buckley, Bennett and at a push Holtby and Rothwell. Smallwood likely won't make an extended 9 man bench. What on earth is the point in this extended contract??? Samuel has at least featured a few times before the break.
  8. It's funny, these kind of injuries have different effects on players. Often you see a player who is at a certain level get this kind of injury and never return to that level again. Another is that Injuries tend to breed other injuries. But on the flip side I remember when Emerton did his knee (ACL?) during the 08/09 season - I think it was in the January - anyway when he came back in 09/10 he declared that the serious injury had been strangely positive for him. He'd been playing whilst carrying a few different injuries and the break gave him chance to fully rest his body then the rehab had rebuilt him to make him more robust. And thats Emerton who above all else was a fantastic natural athlete.
  9. Where have you been. Footballers and children have extremely low chances of suffering badly from the virus. The issue is them spreading the virus. If you test for it then you can prevent people spreading it. Doesn't eliminate all risk becuade you cant eliminate all risk but makes a big difference.
  10. I mean 1000 kids In a cramped space like a school compared and no testing compared is not really comparable at all
  11. Judging from rothwells Instagram post. Him, gallagher and graham are all on the 2nd rovers team and travis and tosin were in the 1st team.
  12. Liverpool fans thought he could be as good as sterling was (before he went to the next level at city). Clearly a player there. I dont know anything about why he has failed at Bournemouth but you suspect a serious attitude problem. And with one of those he might be a lost cause.
  13. Dont want to be pedantic but that's not really the meaning of political correctness!
  14. If the solution is to not pay the players their full wage then it's a non starter. Players are entitled to walk away for free if not paid in full. They ain't going to agree to say a 95% wage cut for 8 months.
  15. On the spurs away video it says Newell scored his 22nd goal of the season but a quick look at the premier league stats says he got 13 league goals that year. Did he get a lot in the fa cup that year ? Hard to find a break down of players from that eras stats
  16. Bellamy is an odd inclusion on the list. His awesomeness is his one season here is pretty much universally recognised.
  17. After watching the 7-1 west ham win from 2001 I nominate Gary Flitcroft
  18. I didn't rate dickov when we had him but the seasons after he left in really started to appreciate the donkey work he did. He was also very good at holding it up for a small man
  19. For me those that really stand out Adam Henley. Was a brilliant 1v1 (vs sterling in2015) defender but never improved the weaknesses in his game, seemed to lack confidence and too many injuries. Ruben Rochina - had an incredible left foot and technique but didn't develop his decision making. Seems to have improved since he left. Nikola Kalinic - had a poor start when he wasnt acclimatised to english football but I always rated him and thought he was very unlucky when he was here.
  20. I wondered this at first. But I think we will miss the whole thing so much that when it comes back people will want to be a part of it still.
  21. How can anyone suggest Gallagher on the wing. I genuinely want to hear the rationale For me He plays up front or he doesn't play I think most would agree on that surely?
  22. Yeah I'm with. Travis getting some criticism from.some but he is so overrun in the middle. Hes working his balls off In there.
