Derby vs Rovers post match thread
Torgeir replied to J*B's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Wrong lineup for me. How Conway gets to start with the squad we currently have is a big mystery for me. Supposed to be experienced but seen him do silly things deep into his own half way too many times. Tbh Bennett and Graham should have been on from the start, but at least Mowbray recognised the signs early enough. Dack could have snatched it though, and Armstrong should have had a penalty, but all in all we were very lucky to avoid defeat in this one. I voted Smallwood as it was the best I've seen him this season, and put a real shift in as we always expect him to. -
That's an insult, he's worth three times that amount. Would be great if we sign Chapman. Cult hero, good impact sub and could become a very good player down the line. Hope we agree the fee now if his contract is running out or his tribunal fee will be higher come end of the season.

Samuel looks to have a partial tear, but will go for a second scan as RB mentions. Don't know whether it's the anterior or the posterior, but sure there will be some more news coming from the club soon.

Are you Steve Kean in disguise? https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/football/711935/steve-kean-david-goodwillie-is-a-young-wayne-rooney/

Tough question. Probably Palmer as he poses more of a threat going forward, whereas Rothwell gives the team better balance when that's needed.
-
We can probably only afford Palmer when/if we go up.
-
Ah, ok. Thanks, didn't know that.
-
If we end up buying Brereton the fee will never be disclosed, so it's anyone's guess. £12m does sound over the top, unless Mowbray is willing to put his balls on the line on him making it big.
-
How so?
-
He was the first one that sprang to mind. I was just putting a balanced view out there - it could go either way. Won't know until we know.

Francis Jeffers
-
Could be. He likes to play central midfielders out wide for balance...
-
Should be able to edit the audio feed so it's synced but the product they showed yesterday compared to last season is a huge improvement. Commentary, instant replays, more camera angles. Brilliant, worth the £110 I've paid for the season pass.
-
I think that'll depend a lot on our league position. If we're fighting for promotion they won't sell, and if we're fighting against relegation they'll probably wait as well unless he's got a crazy relegation release clause in his contract. Realistically, this season could be our best bet for promotion for a while if Dack ends up leaving sometime in the next 18 months...

£8m is a stern price, but the prices are heavily inflated. Just look at what Villa have been asking for Grealish.
-
Mowbray has said they've been expanding and are scouting cheaper markets like Ligue 2 in France where there are a lot of talented players. We can't expect this to happen overnight. If Mowbray is willing to shelf out £8m on Brereton he must be pretty confident that he will turn into something. Besides, the market for English players (especially younger players) inflated - if Brereton signs and is a success, his value will increase exponentially though.
-
Maybe he's not in the squad for a reason...?
-
I get the impression that Sharpe only releases transfer news when he gets the okay from Mowbray and the club.
-
I think Mowbray has stated previously that every target has a set price that they're not going beyond. They don't want to be pushed around in negotiations, so that's why they've pulled out of the Bauer deal (for now) until Charlton come to their senses. Of course this tactic only works if we avoid standing empty-handed post deadline day... Us fans always want the latest inside info and in my next life I want to be an 'ITK', but for all parties involves the way Rovers for the most part have managed to keep things under wraps is for the better.

Grabban is 30 years old and cost £6 million, and on PL wages. It's not the 'Venky's model' to pay over the odds for players with no resale value either. Besides, we have Graham on our books who's proven and Armstrong who has proven he fits well into our system, so I'm not too worried if we sign a 19 year-old.
-
Like who? Personally I think Brereton would benefit a lot from learning under Mowbray and Danny Graham. A lot of younger strikers first and foremost need to work on their hold-up play and decision making, plus get that little bit of composure by getting match experience at a higher level. Knowing he'd be first or second pick here rather than third or fourth at Forest will hopefully be enough to convince him of joining, but if I read ewoodnews' post correctly, then we're only trying to agree the loan fee as Forest are not looking to sell...?
-
And a great manager who knows what he's after!
-
I've only watched clips of him online, but he looks to have a bit intensity in his game. A few yellow cards, proper pace, just (probably) needs to work on his finishing as his record last season wasn't the best. I'd say £6 million for 8 goals in 53 games striker is pushing it, but in Mowbray I trust. Exciting times!

Wouldn't want to develop players for our rivals but the state of football is what it is. If we loan a Nmecha or a Harper from the PL, then I'm all for it, but when it's from a rival and without a view to buy then I'm a bit more skeptical. Older players with less potential resell value is a different matter though, although the modern game is totally bonkers and Mulgrew would probably fetch us a cool £75 million if his name was Carlo Mulagretto. ?
