[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone
Fife Rover replied to adam lodge's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I should think he can just about afford it. -
Gallagher played most of the season he was at Stoke on the left wing and scored a fair number of goals for them from there. Why do you think it was so cheap? If it is not too impertinent of me Ozzie, may I ask why you are doing a commercial for ICI with your signature?

[Archived] Another Graham Poll ?
Fife Rover replied to 1864roverite's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Now there's a thought; instead of the ref throwing down his shirt and whistle and walking off, it would surely be more effective for him to keep a fairly accurate total of all the stoppages in the match that he deems to be down to cheating. Then at the 90 min point, signal e.g. 25 mins extra to be played. That really would put the cat among the pigeons, but it would certainly focus a lot of minds in high places as well as the managers and players that caused it all. Moaniho would just about expire on the spot, but the press and media would have plenty to talk about. Probably best left for a ref playing his last match before retirement for this. -
[Archived] Another Graham Poll ?

Now that really would be nice to see! Unfortunately I fear we will have a long wait. Incidentally while we are on this subject; IF by some miracle it DID happen, how many out of the masses of football fans, and the media would actually support any referee brave enough to do it? What do you think? -
Tuesday 31st October. Just recovering from reading Bob's latest brilliant effort. I particularly liked the treatment of the injury to the unfortunate Jay Roberts bit.

Fife does not like anyone being rude or agressive (joking or leg pulling obviously excepted). It is quite simply not necessary, and far from making the perpetrator look "big" or in any way superior it in fact shows their lack of control or even in some cases, their ignorance. And as far my being a "grumpy" old man is concerned: nothing could actually be further from the truth. Anyone who knows me would find that statement incredible and laughable. I am a gentle person with high moral standards and I make no apology for that as none is needed. I do however care very deeply for the feelings of others and I am and always have been very quick to spring to the defence of people I see as under attack in any kind of unfair way; whether physically or verbally. This has got me into a number of "situations" over the years but I have always survived (so far) and I don't intend to abandon my principles at this stage.

What exactly does that mean Theno?

Now that is one of the more sensible items on this thread SG. Personally I find the whole situation in E. Lancs, both economically and football-wise, to be very, very sad. It seems to me living up here in a beautiful and prosperous area, yet still being at heart a Lancastrian, to be both worrying and sad. I really mean that. I would love to see some signs of economic revival down there. Then maybe the various football clubs, all of them with a long and proud history, could achieve things again, and enjoy the same solid support they once had.

Why do you have to be so dismissive and nasty Theno? People are entitled to come on here and talk about any aspect of the thread that falls within the allowable rules. In the case above the person concerned was just raising a point that he wanted to make and he is perfectly entitled to do so. It matters not one jot whether you or I or anyone else agrees with it, or even likes it, they are still entitled to do it. If you dont like what they say you can always ignore it, or else reply in a more constructive and civil manner. Chill out man!

You have not been reading all the earlier posts on this topic that you started you naughty boy! Way back at the start of all this I asked you if you were a spy; remember? And then went on to accuse the various members of this site that meekly coughed up all the useful info you and Pardew needed to plan Rovers downfall of being 5th columnists (traitors). I was assisted in my efforts by a gallant attempt to make people see sense from Rovers Mum. All to no avail; hence the threat to use the normal WW2 summary justice for traitors which was hanging or shooting. I was trying to get my Heavy Machine Gun up and running again, but alas was too late. The result now is that Rovers are doomed! Whammers to win by a bucketful!

[Archived] Rovers World
Fife Rover replied to theresonly1alj's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Oh Gee! Thanks for that info Stu; I just signed up for a 2 month trial this week, and I am in the process of setting up a wireless network for my 3 desktop PC's and a laptop. I had assumed that I would be able to access any of the internet items I presently use on any of the machines on the network. -
So now you have come clean Theno! That is your evil plan. All of Rovers neighbouring clubs and rivals go bust financially and Rovers collect their ex- supporters who all roll over and accept the situation and become Rovers fans without a murmur of discontent. Only now (as a sop to them) Rovers change their name to Lancashire Utd. Brilliant! Why did none of us think of that?

[Archived] Chelsea (carling Cup)

Does anyone know if tonight's game is on any UK TV channel? -
For me the best penalty taker I have seen for sheer technique and "unsaveability" was Tom Finney. He took penalties for North End and England and I cannot remember seeing him ever missing one. He did not take a big run up, just a couple of steps, and then placed it with the utmost precision JUST inside one of the uprights at grass-top level. Never seemed to be more than a few inches inside the post, and with GK's being required to stay on their line and both heels on the ground until the ball was struck in those days, they had absolutely no chance of saving them. Tom would place the ball on the spot and never ever look up at the GK; he seemed to have his eye on the ball only. Then he would take a couple of steps backward and then step up and hit the ball with his head still down and kicking leg knee over the ball he would strike the ball with his instep and arrow it into the net. He was two footed and as he ran up you or the Keeper had no time to know which foot he would use, plus whichever foot he used he could still place it JUST inside the post at either side. Fantastic player.
