The tea thread!
speeeeeeedie replied to Proudtobeblue&white's topic in I Can't Believe It's Not Football
Yorkshire tea is my favourite. I too get it shipped over. I can buy it at my local supermarket but it costs a fortune for about 20 bags. American tea is weaker than weak. It's disgusting. I've also had some Lancashire tea. My mum got it for me from Ossy Mills, I think. -
Nice table. It paints a striking picture of Rovers' failings. Almost twice as many goals conceded in the last half hour (34) than the first hour (18). It has to be fitness related.

Champions League 2018-2019

2 good games yesterday. City were their swashbuckling selves. It's great to watch but it won't win them the cup. Top sides will be able to pick them off if they play like that. Guardiola admitted as much after the game. They need more defensive solidity. Atletico - Juventus was also good, although annoying at times. I can't see Juventus putting 3 past a Simeone drilled team. They'll frustrate the Italians to death in Turin. Godin and Giminez are the best central defensive partnership in Europe. They don't give much away. It's also good to watch Diego Costa. He is missed in the Prem. -

Not much action yesterday. Liverpool-Bayern 0-0 Lyon-Barcelona 0-0 I expect Barcelona to cruise at home against Lyon. Bayern-Liverpool is much closer. I think that the edge goes to Bayern. They are at home, and Liverpool have lost all their away games in the Champs League this season. However, the Germans won't play like they did at Anfield. They will attack more leaving more space for Liverpool to exploit on the break. Liverpool will also have van Dijk back. -
I got the same, and I'm from Accrington. Interesting, as I've been in the USA for half my life. I answered based on my daily language. Tea was dinner and sweets were candy as they are the words I use now, although I'd revert if I was speaking to a local.

I'm showing my ignorance now. What does Mark Venus do? is he assistant manager? What are Lowe's connections? If he's not going anywhere the club needs to send him on a coaching course.

Lots of knee jerk reactions on here per usual in response to a bad patch. 2 months ago it was all playoff talk. If Mowbray keeps Rovers up this season he has done his job. It's currently looking that way. He has his flaws, a good reason why Rovers were able to get him as manager in the first place. Mourinho or Guardiola weren't going to trap up at Ewood were they? I don't watch games but know that the team concedes too many late goals, and he doesn't seem to have a best 11. A lot of that is down to game preparation, ordinarily managed by the coaching staff. Again, as Rovers were picking from the bargain bin 2 years ago there's no one with Paul Clement's calibre setting the team up. I wouldn't be against getting in a new first team coach, but stick with Mowbray.

Champions League 2018-2019

After last night's performance it looks like Spurs will see off Dortmund. But it is Spurs. Vertongen was woeful in the first half, and terrific in the second. Ajax lost 2-1 to Real. They look like a good side though. Unfortunately it won't last though, the big boys will come in and sign all their good players. -

It's looking like it. I can't see them scoring 3 without reply in Paris, No Pogba either. Last night was a reality check for Man U. PSG are a good side. Man U were never at the races. They looked more like Mourinho's team than the one that's been beating inferior opposition over the last few months. Porto got beat 2-1 in Rome. That tie is wide open. Spurs v. Dortmund today. Should be interesting. -

How long will he last? My guess is not long. -
and "Kean later resigned from Rovers that September despite them being third in the Championship under their controversial owners" Utter utter tripe. The whole article. Kean's last 10 years are worthy of some real investigation. However, whenever he surfaces it's in puff pieces touting his "talent". A journalist willing to take some time and look into his background would be a nice read.

Keith Andrews is commentating on Bournemouth v. Chelsea on US TV. Not very special.

Rovers also missed a lot of sitters too. Lots of 1 on 1's straight at the keeper.

Your best 5 and worst 5 Rovers games!
speeeeeeedie replied to JeffRover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
It's been a while since I've watched those highlights. What a game. Imagine a team with Mickey Gray and Shefki Kuqi beating the likes of Ronaldo, van Horseface, Ferdinand and the like. Brilliant. -
Tony Adams for Arsenal at Ewood, 1992 -93. It was Rovers first year in the top flight. I'd been used to watching division 2 football, and without today's TV saturation I'd not seen much of him. His media caricature was that he was a donkey. Seeing him live changed my mind. He was a very classy player. As for best Rovers performances, Shearer put in some amazing ones. He was on another level at times and you couldn't help but marvel at him. Sutton scored a hat trick one game early in his Rovers career, but Shearer was unplayable that day. Friedel away at Arsenal was another. He performed heroics that day. 2002 ish?

I read that as Drake and the Wu Tang Clan are coming to KGH. Some coup that! Grandmaster Flash once performed in Accrington so you never know.

Your best 5 and worst 5 Rovers games!
speeeeeeedie replied to JeffRover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Good topic. My regular Rovers watching was from 1990-2000. Since then I've been living abroad so only get to sporadic games, or TV. I don't have a favourite, but have some memorable ones, all of which have already been mentioned. 2 that haven't are Rovers 2-0 Oldham spring 1990 or 91. Oldham were on their way up, Rovers were scrapping down at the bottom. Steve Livingstone bagged 1 if I remember, and Rovers played Oldham off the park. Both sets of fans left happy as it essentially kept Rovers up, yet didn't hurt Oldham's promotion charge. Wigan 0-3 Rovers. NYE 2005. Reid's thunderbolt. MGP's finish from a tight angle. 5,000 away fans. A great day out. I agree with many of the bad ones too. Three Wigan games (Kean, Ince, Coyle), and losing to Bolton at home under Kean left me with particularly awful feelings. A few others; The 0-0 against Man U at Ewood in 1999 that confirmed relegation. Ashley Ward missed a hat full of chances. Man U were coasting as they had bigger fish to fry. They were there for the taking. Rovers 1-2 Ipswich. Early 1991-92 season. It may have been Don Mackay's last game. If not, it wasn't far off. Rovers were woeful, the crowd was flat. Chris Kiwomya scored for Ipswich. I have a weird memory of the tannoy announcer calling him Chris Kiwomski. Anyone else? Rovers 0-1 Crewe Alex. 1999-2000. A horrible game. Losing at home to Crewe. A typical post relegation reality check. -
For those like me who would rather not click links with no info relating to it; Damien Duff joins Celtic as reserve team coach. Edit: not having a dig at you arbitro, but it's easier to read on a phone without having to click a link.

I'm sure Mark Hughes was once asked something along the lines of do you wish Tugay was 28? His reply was no, because he'd be playing for Barcelona. Tugay was genuine class act, but if I had to pick 1 player it would be Shearer. He was top 3 in Europe without a doubt when he was a Rovers player. He was at the same level as European top dogs Romario and Batistuta. Brazilian Ronaldo wasn't there yet.
-
I'm under 50, Shearer was better. I'm not saying that Tugay wasn't class though.

2018-2019 knockout stage draw; Schalke vs. Manchester City Atletico Madrid vs. Juventus Manchester United vs. Paris Saint-Germain Tottenham vs. Borussia Dortmund Lyon vs. Barcelona Roma vs. Porto Ajax vs. Real Madrid Liverpool vs. Bayern Munich I'll give Roma-Porto a miss but the rest should be good games. -

That video is great. I'd never seen it before. I rarely saw Jason Lowe play, but I always wondered how he got all those England youth caps. -

I watched the Liverpool game and doubt that anybody would have quibbled if the result was 6-2 in Liverpool's favour, they missed a hatful. Napoli should have had 2. Spurs had a bad start but mad eit by the skin of their teeth. They were unlucky last year, hopefully they'll do better this time out. -

All 3 are through as are Man City. Although only City go through as group winners. Alisson paid off his transfer fee last night.
