The bubble well and truly seems to have burst for Liverpool. I know they have injuries but what an unbelievably poor start to the season for them. United aren't beating them through quality, but just through sheer effort and willingness to battle for everything. The total opposite to their first two games! Maguire and Shaw likely to be warming the bench for a while, one would think.

Tbf the Armstrong departure would have been a disaster if Brereton hadn't stepped up, as we didn't replace him. Not sure there's anybody waiting in the wings now to bail us out if BBD is sold.

It was the same last season when the death spiral started. 'we're still 2nd... 3rd... 4th... 5th... 6th... a point outside the playoffs...' Ignoring early warning signs is what we've been doing for years. It doesn't really matter if fans bury their heads in the sand over it, but I really hope this management team aren't so naive/unambitious as to accept the level of performance we saw last night as anything other than unacceptable and in need of serious review.

If we had been terrible all season I'd be far less frustrated by what I just witnessed. We haven't been amazing but we've been competitive and solid enough in our first three league matches - enough so that I had no worries about tonight and was, stupidly, actually confident for once. I've been really proud of how the lads had been performing up until this point, but this was right back to the bad old days in terms of attitude and performance. Just so deflating after what had been a fantastic start. Still, my melancholy aside, it will be interesting to see how JDT handles this one. It's a good test for him and it's come early in his tenure. The only other positive is that it may jolt our recruitment team into action.

Accepting these types of performances is why we've spent our entire Championship tenure in mid-table at best and relegated at worst. I very much hope JDT doesn't just see this as "one bad night" and instead looks very deeply into some of the serious flaws we've had as a club and as a team for far too long. I'd begrudgingly accept a slim 1-0 or 2-1 defeat where things just didn't quite go our way, but this has been so far below acceptable that no manager with any ambition would just shrug their shoulders and say "oh well, it happens sometimes". I don't expect JDT will, either. With the type of career he had he isn't going to just give that performance from our team a pass. A couple of players may have had their cards marked tonight. JDT needs to be making it clear to Broughton tonight that action is needed now, not in two weeks time.

An embarrassing half. Hard to believe we're a team who have won four on the spin, I would say we look like a League Two team but that would be unfair on League Two teams. JDT should be spitting fire at half time - most of them look like they're hungover and would rather be tucked up in bed watching Netflix. I don't ask for top quality performances every match but at least attempt to look like you give a shit, lads. Just because you've won a few on the bounce doesn't mean you get to phone it in tonight. Top teams keep going, ruthlessly. This isn't the Mowbray era anymore and I hope JDT makes sure these players realise that. Huge improvement needed in the second half. Big, big team talk and some brave decisions needed here.

Spot on. Paul Ince himself said after Rotherham crushed them on Saturday that their team simply isn't good enough to deal with going behind in a game. If their own manager is admitting this we should have zero fear of going there.

We're struggling with injuries for sure, but at the same time Reading have just been smashed 4-0 by Rotherham and lost 2-1 to Stevenage at home. Also beaten 1-0 by Blackpool - and are managed by Paul Ince. Nothing to fear here, and we aren't the same team who would fail to impress in fixtures like this under other managers. 2-0 Rovers, and the JDT revolution continues unabated.

Love to read all of these salty comments from managers whose teams we've dispatched 😎 will take the opposition seeing their arse any day over oppo managers praising our style after they've beaten us.

I think the Toney/Armstrong debate from a couple of seasons back can certainly be put to bed now.

It's a nice idea but the reality is Pep has been surrounded by world-class players wherever he's been. It's easier to implement his philosophy when you have the best players in the league at your disposal. The Championship is a different beast and requires multiple different ways of playing to achieve success if you aren't one of the top clubs in the division. It's something JDT seems to have grasped immediately which can only be a positive from our perspective.

Martin falls into a long line of managers/coaches who struggles to grasp the point of the game is to win the match, not achieve some philosophical or moral victory. Mowbray was like that as well. He'll only realise when he's been giving his marching orders. Dem possession stats tho.

Let's not act like there aren't comments on here about teams being average or not very good after they've handily beaten us 😅 it's pretty common across fanbases. From briefly reading the thread in question there were a fair few posters noting that if we are average what does that make them? Anyway, BBD's goal was awesome. Lovely cross-field ball, perfect control from BBD, the strength to hold off the defender and then a sublime dinked finish. Absolute class.
