I think that's fair comment, up to a point. And had we been talking about a 2 or 3 year Mowbray tenure it would have been a very fair comment, but the last two years have been utterly wasted. However, we have a lot to be positive about as long as folk realise that we won't be winning 3-0 or 4-0 every week.

There was never any doubt about Shearer's quality but I still maintain we could and should have kept hold of Speedie. Imagine him and Newell rekindling their partnership after Shearer's injury in that 1992/93 season. We would have won the league and Fergie would have been sacked. A real sliding doors moment that one.

Shearer also got a full-ground standing ovation when he scored for Newcastle about 20 years ago to make it 2-1 in a game that finished (I think) 5-2 to Rovers as it was his 300th career goal.
