  1. My opinion on Travis remains the same, he doesn't have the ability. It needs fixing in January and we must spend money on a better central midfielder + bring in a striker to have a chance. We're also short of good wingers either side. Hopefully JDT has found all this out in the first half of the season. Zaroury, Benson, Brownhill, Cork and Cullen were too much and those are the exact positions we're short in. As Tomasson eluded to today 6 in wasn't enough in the summer, way off in fact (even though a good few fans were crying for patience daily, when most could see we needed more action)! Money must be spent centrally and up top IF we want to go up this season. Last year we spanked Sheffield United at home largely thanks to two loan wingers in Khadra and Poveda. This year we have George Hirst and Mola not making any real impact. The fact we're 3rd given the money spent and the amount of players we brought in is still pretty incredible but ultimately we're too reliant on the academy (as good as it is). Spend a bit more money and we could be a real contender. We need Venky's, Broughton and the scouting department to step up now! I'd also be happy to see us get rid of a handful of players for fees if we can but if we don't invest in players this January and Brereton leaves for free in the summer, it might be one hell of a long journey to the Premier League... or a never ending one. As it stands this team isn't going up without any backing.
  2. I say it every time we try it... Brittain at LB should not be happening!! He is one of the best RBs in the league. Playing him at LB weakens the team immediately as the left side is totally unbalanced and the right side also isn't as strong as it could be because of this, throw a new defender inside of him in Mola and you have a recipe for disaster on paper and in a big game like this that's exactly what it was. Whenever I've seen Tomasson try it we've looked off and we were off again today to say the least, an absolutely appalling performance by the lot of them but it starts by not playing players in their strongest positions. A no show of a performance. Disgraceful from the players and the staff.
  3. Overhyping average players has been a problem for years with England. Kane, Shaw, Rice, Phillips, Rashford, Maguire, Dier, Wilson, Sterling, Grealish. All average, we'll do nothing sadly.
  4. Great to hear ambition and a winning mentality. Love it Ben! If this is the mentality around the club then the signings will come.
  5. Travis is a professional footballer without a left foot, he is so weak on it that he uses the outside of his right for what should be simple left footed passes. A few times today it left him off balance and disrupted the flow. No doubt about it he's an extremely limited footballer. Entirely one footed, no vision, terrible range of passing, can't really shoot, hides when we're on the ball and only receives it if he's in a nothing position to do nothing with it. What he can do is tackle, run around a bit, break up play and pick up some useful yellow cards. A better centre mid has to be on the shopping list.
  6. Thank god we brought Morton in, imagine Bradley Johnson and Travis trying to play this system.
  7. 100% but I think it requires a midfield signing that can do both. He's been one of my favourite players over the past few years and is good at breaking up play but he doesn't have enough ability on the ball and it's limiting us IMO. He is constantly rolling it to any other player even if they are only 2 or 3 yards away, then pointing at where they should pass it. It isn't good enough. He can't make the right pass himself. Tempted to say Ollie Rathbone at Rotherham would suit our system better.
  8. Lewis Travis is dog sh*t! I'll say it again he's a very limited lower half Championship footballer with no left foot. His range of passing isn't anywhere near what you'd expect to see at this level. Jack Vale and George Hirst should be playing in League One no doubt about it. Not even close to being up to it. Nonetheless when you choose to play them, you at the very least have to play the rest in their best positions. Brittain at LWB and Travis at RWB were the root of all our problems today IMO and you're risking it every time doing that. There was a lot to sort at half time and it didn't happen. Really disappointing from Tomasson.
  9. A question Mowbray absolutely should not be answering.
  10. Desired style of play, if you prefer. He doesn't fit it.
  11. We need to move on from Dack as fans and as a club. We simply can't afford to keep any expensive player if they don't fit the current style of play. He's about to turn 29, had TWO cruciate knee injuries and has barely played football. I doubt any club would trigger an extension clause on his current wages so there really is no choice. The manager wants mobile players that can play high intensity football. Any big earners will need to be crucial to his style of play and Bradley isn't. If we can get a fee for him it would be very sensible business. Nonetheless whilst he is still our player I'd like to see him treated with respect and not be forced to come on in stoppage time, particularly if he's not part of a squad rotation. I do feel he could be used more but even that's becoming a difficult argument given our league position without him. If he's getting minutes it should be a reasonable amount or none at all, he is good enough to play at least 30 minutes in a lot of fixtures.
  12. I used to think Franco Di Santo, Anthony Modeste, Nikola Kalinic and Ben Brereton were crap so I try to reserve judgement on ruling young strikers out.
  13. The defence played well today considering the amount of pressure they were put under but it was another Championship fixture for me that Travis wasn't able to influence enough. He can win a tackle but hides too often when we're on the ball and isn't good enough on it himself. Needs to step his game up otherwise might find himself losing his place to someone like Garrett or a new signing in January.
  14. If we are signing and releasing players to fit a system I'm happy about that.
  15. Absolutely, I think the other at the time was Butterworth and look where he's ended up. It is petty but it's telling. I remember Dack's reaction at the time, missing the point and call fans "wallys". That was the Mowbray holiday camp vibe spilling out on to social media. I call it not taking your own team and career quite seriously enough. I'd hazard a guess that JDT has seen glimpses of it and isn't interested in the slightest. I do have sympathy for Dack though, his injuries were horrendous and so unlucky at a huge time in his career. Hope he does well but his time at Rovers is mostly likely over.
  16. IF they can get a fee for Dack now it would be a masterstroke IMO and 15k a week off the wage bill. Great servant for the club but the second cruciate was it. He will do a job somewhere else but we need to bring in players that fit the new model and offer longevity. If he was on 5k a week, fine keep him around.
  17. Looked a different player today. I thought he was excellent... mobile, good on the ball, moved us forward and created.
  18. Morton ran the game v Rotherham, Wharton ran the game v Blackpool. When did Travis last run a Championship fixture? He needs to step it up.
  19. Travis is a big problem, captain so never dropped and a very limited footballer. We're losing games through the middle with this formation again and again, and creating absolutely nothing going forward. I did not expect our creative football to be this bad when JDT came in, I remember him saying in his first presser, "possession is good but the goal is that way". Whatever he's coaching isn't working. I expected our passing to occur further forward and with a goal threat. Wigan kept it direct and simple like Cardiff, and battered us. He's got to turn to Dack or Adam Wharton because otherwise we don't have the quality through the middle to bring the ball under control well enough and move it. It keeps coming back. Dolan, Szmodics and Hirst aren't your men to be starting centrally, they are subs and the defence is playing its own mini-game. Travis all too often looks for anyone else who can pass it better than him, which is nearly everyone - you can't afford this as a midfielder at the level we're looking to play at. Centre backs are seeing the weakness and waltzing forward through our team. Kipre looked like an over competitive dad on the park last week pushing his son's friends out the way. Hirst needs sending back but ultimately until better players are signed we're going to be very inconsistent. Hedges is a good player but he's a forward and is being wasted at RWB, bench him or start him as one of the forward 3. Britton has to play RWB as much as possible. This side of the game isn't hard, picking players in their best position! We are NOT getting the ball in the box through the middle or down the channels. I'm not sure what JDT's route to goal is? Are we a crossing side, are we route-one team or are we supposed to be working the ball into the box, because we're doing none of these. The mistakes helped at Millwall, the penalty helped at Rotherham but even in the games we're winning we are creating very few clear cut chances. It's concerning, home and away. Right now we seem like a team that passes it about at the back and hopes for a gift from the referee or opposition. That isn't football. We're all prepared to lose games but the games we're losing we are not competing in and are playing embarrassingly ineffective football against the poorer sides. You can't get any more concerning than that! Morton is the only loan signing that's helping, the others appear duds for the manager's system as does Szmodic. It's as if he didn't sign them. Which is often the biggest criticism of having a Director of Football is it not. If the vision is clear off the pitch, it definitely isn't clear on it...
  20. We have a good few players that aren't good enough for the top half and also wouldn't look out of place in League One. Travis, Pickering, Dolan, Buckley, Szmodics, Hirst, Gallagher etc. It's a lot of players and a lot of kids. So with 5 defenders you're relying on real quality ahead of them and we simply don't have it. It's too much to ask of the players we have and we're asking far too much of Tyler Morton. I was hoping Mola could come in and play a role in the middle but it doesn't look like he will. It's a man's league and we're being completely outmuscled right through the middle time after time and playing ourselves into danger at the back. Not good enough from the manager, and the recruitment team in the summer. There's been far too many totally unacceptable performances already this season.
  21. Agree, Haaland would have played sh*te last night with Buckley, Travis, Hedges and Dolan supplying him. I understand the passing out from the back more when you have 3 central defenders as you have the extra man back there (and it still hasn't been working for us) but in a 4, there's absolutely no way we have the players for that. In fact, I'm not sure many teams even try that as a 4? The game was written off again yesterday due to the approach, it isn't working and we've had a good few lucky wins now too. It was incredible Cardiff didn't beat us sooner. We must work on a plan B and be able to adapt when the passing out clearly isn't going to work. Reading, Bristol City, Luton, Cardiff and Sheff U have all been horrendous performances and almost non competitive games in this league, add the Millwall and Stoke performances to that with wins and losses aside, you have 6 and a half games of totally unacceptable and ineffective football. I like Tomasson's enthusiasm, charm... and his smile but ultimately I expected far better.
