I think it's safe to say they don't know who they want. Perhaps the board are considering no manager as the way forward, since there's less questions asked that way.

This is quite an old interview from Sigurdsson and was immediately after he found out. He's since thanked the fans and moved on, as should we. The club did do him a little dirty though and we need to get more organised behind the scenes. Not sure why Jackson's "reporting" that interview so late after it happened. Really poor journalism.

Pretty appalling list of candidates

Only Waggott and Venky's could struggle to sell a team in 5th (with 13 to go) to the unemployed!

I mean minutes. He'll sign for another Championship club and find himself unused first. He's featured for us too often due to a lack of investment in those areas. I've seen enough of him over 4 seasons to know he plays badly more often than he plays well, and there is a risk he drops down a division in 3 or 4 years time. I'll be interested to see how his career goes and I suspect through a combination of overhype, bad advice, greed of people around him and not enough ability... it will be downwards. He'd be better off focusing on the length of a contract here rather than the amount, then improve his game but yes... he deserves a pay rise and will be asking for too much from the club that sees him every day. He and people around him have pushed the "Championship Baller" agenda too much, without doing enough in games, as a top earning winger should. The Sky cameras will get him a better contract elsewhere but I don't think that will help his career. We're actually the makers of our own downfall here as usual, if you don't invest in better quality the ones that aren't quite good enough feature more and more, then get carried away with their demands. If he goes I will miss his running and enthusiasm on the pitch but that's about it.

I like to think I know a good footballer when I see one and I'm confident despite recent form that Dolan shouldn't be starting in the top half of the Championship. In fact, if he doesn't sign a new deal here I don't think we'll see much more of him at this level, certainly not as regularly as we're doing. Happy to be proven wrong but don't think I will be. He doesn't progress the ball enough for the amount of touches he takes, generally doesn't strike the ball well (yes I saw his finish at the weekend), has a poor natural crossing ability and no left foot when passing or shooting. He also has poor awareness (yes I saw his assist at the weekend) but in most games he repeatedly misses opportunities to switch play. He isn't quick enough either. Thankfully he's willing to run his socks off and pressing is his best attribute, he's also not injury prone. If I were him I'd jump at any 4 year deal at this level, particularly with us if the wage is reasonable. I suspect he's receiving some bad advice and his career will suffer. There will be people in his ear telling him he should be a top earner..... he shouldn't.

A luxury not many teams can afford.

Any ideas on the thinking behind only offering him a 2 year deal?

I'd imagine the season objective in the summer and the budget provided would be the usual "enough to survive" in the Championship, would it not? Currently the objective is to get in the playoffs. I'd expect there to be a dramatic difference in the calibre of candidates now vs in the summer. It would be stupid not to capitalise on it and I don't trust the board to appoint a decent manager without having the playoff carrot to dangle. Why else would you choose to work with and for them now? Or have I been on a different planet for the past 2 years?
-
Exactly why I'd be behind Gerrard, the bigger the name vs the owners the better.
-
Rovers should do everything they can to make an appointment now, since the only thing we have left going for us in terms of respect at this level is our current league position. Right now it could be used to get us a manager better than we deserve. Away from that, "the owners and longterm project", what most managers look for... is not going to get us anyone of note. Sadly plenty fans STILL have their heads up their arses.

I can't believe what I've just seen tonight. and Gueye was OUTSTANDING.
-
Completely agree, I'm a season ticket holder so I do "back the lads" but I can tell you as an absolute fact, one thing that gets teams into the Premier League (and arguably the only thing) ISN'T a full crowd, it's a well ran football club by connected owners and in my opinion the club have to get themselves in order first. Which will be in many, many years time... when Venky's are gone.
-
A few things we already knew have been well proven in the past few days... Rovers are one of the most badly ran clubs in the country and Simon Jordan is an absolute plant pot.
-
Is this meant to be the "New manager list from Wish?" 🤔
-
It's the kind of investment you spend if you get a big gate in an FA cup tie. Not selling £30 million pounds in players.
-
I've got to say it's very concerning if the club think the investment in January was "significant" 😂😂😂
-
Good luck sellin them season tickets next year! 🤣

There is no question that Blackburn have been dysfunctional at times but landing Emmanuel Dennis for much less than rival bidders because they waited until the death was a triumph. Sounds more like luck to me Alan, after some panic... not quite sure I'd commend it Alan.

Good article from the LET. Well done.
-
Personally I think this would be the tipping point if it happened but for what it's worth, I don't think he'll join Derby. He will go in the summer and the reasons he wants out now will all be forgotten about.
-
We need an entire stadium united in protest, we've needed that for 15 years. Last season when the Waggott/ Venky out chants started I heard plenty of people in the ground question it "why are they doing that again?" .... If Eustace leaves the answer would be there for everyone to see. There would be no recovering from it IMO. IF it happens, next season shouldn't be about "staying in the league" as this season was....... (due to bad ownership).... it has to be about removing the owners and the board and for multiple seasons. It will happen, they can't hide forever.
-
Really like Eustace as a manager but if he left he'd be doing us a favour in my opinion.

January Transfer window

Likely that our transfer windows are so uncertain and chaotic that we can't tell our players the plan beforehand or even during. That is Waggott and Venky's for you... -
January Transfer window
Ghost7 replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
A recurring theme is the more say Waggott has, the less planning there is for beyond the next 6 months. Although successful in parts, the transfer window lacked strategy in a number of ways... one being player registrations, another being positions signed and the length of contracts agreed. Central midfield needed money spending on it early, and all of the players signed should have had more minutes in their legs this season to be able to make an impact 3 weeks ago... but minutes cost money... something the owners have still not provided. Even though there are "no restrictions for funding the club" only one permanent signing was made and for a nominal fee. "Money can be spent freely if they provide a personal guarantee". Well then, I can only presume from the amount spent, they weren't willing to provide it again? It's the usual nonsense to keep the happy clappers busy for another 12 months until Steve retires. You won't see this lack of funding at many other clubs when in the position we find/ found ourselves in (bearing in mind we are willing to do the same when 2nd in the league), a bit of investment might have seen us sitting more comfortably in the playoffs... A small amount early on. We had sold the players to be able to do it. Consequently it's feeling more and more unlikely and teams that spent more are now set to leapfrog us. Contract renewals and any long term strategy, Waggott simply can't get right. Is that the CEO Rovers need to assure fans and maximise revenue? No. Either way it doesn't really matter since a good CEO would struggle to work with the current owners... they will always be the real problem. Venky's have had all of the chances you can have now, we've seen every scenario in my opinion that might have resulted in them financially backing a manager and go for promotion. They have no interest and never will. It's hard to get behind that as a player, an employee or fans and we'll see the effects of that in the coming seasons in my opinion until they go. The only restrictions in place are Venky's, it's been that way since 2010.
