  1. It could have been worse, it's probably the only position where we could sell a player, not replace him, yet actually improve the squad.
  2. Yeah, I probably should have added the words, fitness permitting.
  3. We did, although it was the 3 clean sheets from the last 4 games which in the end kept us up. I think we can all agree, with what is going on at the moment, Eustace will have done a sterling job if he can keep us clear of trouble for this season.
  4. To be fair, that's an excellent point just raised by Exiled Rover.
  5. I suppose it depends if you think we were going down under Tomasson, and how much damage he'd left behind. I'd say that we were only going in one direction playing Tomasson's way. Eustace came in fairly late in the day and had to change the style completely. In the end, that style kept us up.
  6. Tronstad would seem the obvious choice for captain if he fancies it, if not him then Hedges, both lead by example.
  7. I'd have Szmodics on the bench tomorrow night, about time this saga was brought to a close. Assuming he's been training, he could do 20 minutes tomorrow, start building him up and send a message to Ipswich. I don't get people siding with Ipswich or Szmodics, he's our player and needs to be playing if he isn't leaving. What's best for Rovers is the only thing that matters.
  8. Star is pushing it a bit isn't it?
  9. I don't particularly rate Pears, but there's also no way he's as bad as some make out, and his age means there's time to improve . It's the usual situation, point out the mistakes but don't acknowledge any pluses. The Wednesday game was a howler at a crucial time, but Pears kept clean sheets in 3 of the last 4 against Southampton, Leeds and Leicester. It would be a different situation if Eustace had to choose a keeper to start the new season, but we're not in that position. For me, if Pears and the team start well, he stays in.
  10. It is Pears' to lose, that's how it should be.
  11. If we're changing keepers every time they cock up, they're going to be in and out like a fiddler's elbow.
  12. That's how I see it. Pears will play on Friday and if he does well should keep his place there on in.
  13. Be r8, it isn't like we're having to have a whip round on here every month.
  14. We will be going into the season with Pears as number 1,he'll definitely play on Friday. Hopefully he makes it extremely difficult for Eustace to drop him.
  15. If there was a clause/agreement reached as recently as December, there shouldn't be a problem either way. Either a club meets the recently agreed valuation, or Szmodics stays where he is.
  16. Could also be that Szmodics is stalling hoping for interest from elsewhere.
  17. This is where agreeing a sell on clause/gentleman's agreement or whatever should work in Rovers' favour. If both parties agreed a figure when Szmodics renewed his contract so recently, he can't really have grounds to take his ball home.
  18. To be fair, Dolan was on real form last season, our form fell off a cliff after his injury against Birmingham.
  19. To give him his real name, Leon Worst
  20. I don't know if it's £8 million, or even if there is one, it's just the figure which has been mooted. It doesn't stop clubs coming in with a lower offer, but if both parties have agreed to the figure, then it stands to reason that the club has more power to stand it's ground, and the player has less grounds to take his ball home.
  21. This is why I think having a release clause benefits Rovers. If, as has been reported, an £8 million figure has been agreed, then it should mean that both parties are happy at that figure. You can argue that £8 million isn't enough, but it should stop another club coming in with a ridiculously low offer to try to unsettle the player. I agree with the 9/10m valuation being realistic.
