v Bristol City (a) - 4/11/25
ageoftherover replied to Jerseybean's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Re Hedges, theres no player in this division who isn't limited in some way. The key to getting out of a league like this isn't assembling a squad of premier league quality players. It's getting players in positions where their strengths are accentuated and their flaws are not as relevant. Thats more straightforward with a competent back office/owners, but VI seems to have done that with a few players regardless, eg Hedges, De Neve, Cantwell, Miller. It's in no small part due to him being willing to make a significant change to our formation, which isn't the kind of flexibility you often see from modern coaches, with JDT immediately coming to mind. -

Shows what a different team you can be when your 1 and 9 put in excellent performances. -

Keepers never get the credit (or blame) they're due in these sorts of things. -

This kind of comment can apply to a lot of players, but if Alebiosu had power, pace, physicality as well as consistently fantastic distribution/final ball he wouldnt be playing in this division. -

Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
ageoftherover replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I know there's a lot of rightful scepticism about this squad, but I still think he should be getting much more out of them than this. Particularly up front. There are some pieces there, they're just not gelling and that thats 100% on Ismael. -

Chaddys consistent inconsistency aside, I do agree its too early to say whether VI will be a downgrade on Eustace. Eustace maybe has a few more runs on the board, but its not like VI has been a perennial failure and there's something to be said for having a manager who can function in a strange, chaotic environment. Eustace clearly couldn't and while you can argue our managers shouldn't have to, at this point its as useful as yelling at a wall. If VI is able to better manage the cretins higher up then well probably see benefits flow through to the pitch. -

If I'm Ismael, having worked only at normal clubs, "strange and difficult" are probably words I'd use to describe a Rovers transfer window as well. -

Yeah I know. Just highlighting that both poor decisions probably get overturned. -

For all the moaning about VAR, the scoreline is probably reversed today if we had access to it. -

Australian fan here. Very happy we've signed Miller. He's been one of our better players internationally recently. Australia play 5 at the back and he's regularly played as the right wide/wing back, so he's no stranger to getting up the pitch. It looks like he was used differently at Hibs, but he's probably a bit more versatile than he's been given credit for. -

Backfires on others though. I know a lot more about the shitty things regimes in some of these places do due to people getting up in arms about things like owning foreign football clubs. Not everyone reads Amnesty International communication briefs. In short, keep giving it to them. -
They can't get rid of Ange now surely.

Tracking our (outbound) loan players 24/25

I (randomly) watched the highlights of that Oldham/Ebbsfleet game and remarked that it would have been 5 or 6-0 if not for the keeper, not knowing he was a Rovers player. Some excellent saves. The less said about the 3 players in front of him the better. That penalty would be shambolic at any level. https://youtu.be/HN2rZ-_MwnI?si=0yJEO6fkrymzjr9F
