  1. Wow, won't be parting with £40 or however much it is for a book with a full page glossy photo of those jokers. They should have just swallowed their pride and omitted themselves from the book.
  2. I prefer to look at his 13-14 year managerial record when deciding on his footballing acumen. He got in to playoffs during the covid season with Barnsley and got into the playoffs in German regional football about 13 years ago. That's all he has achieved. During that time he's had more clubs than Tiger Woods. Edit - sorry. sounds like I'm being an arse with you there when I read it back. Basically, I made my mind up about him before we ever appointed him, I never wanted him, have struggled to warm to him, see him as a journeyman and average at best. I haven't booed or jeered him at Ewood like some parts of the fan base, but I don't think he'll ever get us anywhere. Would love to end up with egg on my face but I won't.
  3. I'm still unconvinced by him. As pleased as I am with 3 wins in a row, they still haven't passed the eye test for the long term. We were very lucky against Southampton and we snuck in front at Leicester and it then got very toxic which really helped us. Tonight was a shite game of football and I'm glad we managed to just about shithouse it. To a neutral who hasn't watched any of our games, it will sound like we're flying, I think we can see we're not. Let's just get to 50 points however we do it.
  4. Just had a quick look on the Rovers site to see how the crowd was shaping up for Saturday by seeing where tickets were available and sadly the £18 tickets don't seem to have put a dent in what will be pretty much a bog-standard attendance for us these days. We're a husk. When we played Wolves in 2000, we were in the same division we're in now, except we were trying to compete to get out of the division and were run by competent people. The argument about it being the Jack Walker era can't be levelled because by that point the great man had passed on. The attendance for that game was 20,400. I'm guessing Wolves at the time would have brought about 2k? What do we think for Saturday? 15,000 'officially' announced but nearer 11 or 12k? Sad
  5. I'd even rather they played in this on Saturday, than an all white Bolton/Derby/Leeds/Tottenham shirt with a cross on it
  6. If the very latest rumours and photos are genuine about this white shirt with a Maltese cross on it, my overall emotion is just one of real sadness. Might be trivial in the grand scheme of things for a grown man to feel sad about what an anniversary football shirt looks like, but I can't help it. It looks rubbish. It looks cheap. It's ridiculously expensive if that is the correct price. It doesn't look or feel like anything familiar or loveable about Rovers. No one other than an anorak of Rovers history is going to have a clue what shirt it is if you were to wear it in public, most people will just think you're dressed like a crank. Infuriating to think they had a fan group willing to engage and guide them on this and instead they've gone their own way and churned out this tat. Please let it be a red herring and there is some blue and white glorious kit waiting to be unveiled.
  7. If they have something planned for the Derby match as was hinted, maybe it's being kept under wraps until as late in the day as possible, due to potential spies and grasses on here or elsewhere who would try and prevent it or undermine it. Let's wait and see. My worry is that we've had two good results - while I'm glad we've moved clear of the drop zone for now and hope we can keep our head above water, I think that puts a significant portion of the fan base off protesting because they see it as unfair on the players and manager or just think you shouldn't protest if the team is winning.
  8. Do they know something we don't about a future plan to play 'entertaining stuff'? We played have only played 'entertaining stuff' one season in the last 15 years and that was because we were in League One. There won't be any entertaining stuff until the Venkys FO
  9. That's what I think is most likely. Ed: I just checked and according two Wiki we're the probably 11th oldest club in England, we could be 10th but it's not clearly exactly when Big Club Birmingham were formed. So even if it became end of 1874, it would only make us the tenth oldest. We appear to have the 6th longest longevity in terms of names. We've only ever been Blackburn Rovers. Several of the 'older clubs' had completely different names or were repurposed cricket teams or shinney teams. We've always been BRFC, always been a football club.
  10. I just got the latest 4000 Holes in the post today and there is a great article on the ins and outs of this debate in there that I just read on my lunch break. What seems most likely is that a group of mates/associates/etc were playing football together in 1874 and 1875 and that they officially announced/codified their team name, colours and players in November 1875. So when people asked these former players, founders et al, many years later about the history of Rovers, some of them inevitably conflated or misremembered different events. All the evidence for 1874 or early 1875 is anecdotal, I believe this the likely explanation for the confusion. They might even have been calling themselves "Rovers" but it wasn't official or codified anywhere. I don't think it's a good idea to have an official record of when we were founded based on something which isn't official or a record, as opposed to just what someone roughly remembers or reckons. For that reason I think we must stick with Nov 1875. Would be like having loads of kickarounds with your mates and eventually deciding to enter a 5-a-side league, you might forget exactly when you officially became a team and misreport that years later, assuming you became a famous five-a-side team 😄 I've been doing a load of genealogy research in the last few years, looking at old census records and all sorts of things. You'd be surprised how often people forgot, misremembered or incorrectly recorded pretty important information back then (we're lucky that so much is digital now in some ways).
  11. I'm pretty sure the 125th anniversary was also commemorated the 2000/01 season. I can't speak to the earlier ones as I wasn't born. If we were formed in November 1875 then that would have been during the 1875/76 season which would mean that celebrating 00/01 and 25/26 makes the most sense. Thought I don't know whether they had official 'seasons' at that point as there was only exhibition games and the cup which was annual. We only formally existed for ~2 months of 1875, so it makes less sense to celebrate in the 10 months prior.
  12. I think a lot of the crowd chanted for him to go during the Boro game last season iirc and poss the Sheff Weds game. He hasn't reached the level of vitriol I have for SK or even Coyle, I don't think any manager will make me feel like SK did. At the moment he's at the Paul Ince threshold with me - rubbish, clueless and arrogant. I want him gone but at the same time I'm frightened about what happens after that, still a roll of the dice under these lot.
  13. Whoever took the most blows to the head will probably end up as our next manager or director of football.
  14. "Augustus Kargbo has today joined Serie F side Vatican Wanderers for an undisclosed fee."
  15. So all the Lancashire Telegraph article commenters sit together at back of the Jack Walker? They probably get free hospitality or something.
  16. Coming out of the ground so relieved we've got a home win, to stop another unwanted record under these idiots. So relieved given how other results went, at one point we were staring at a large gap opening up to safety. Very pleased for the players, we lack quality but they worked hard for that. Having said all that, it still didn't pass the eye test. Armstrong could have had a hat-trick himself. On another day we could have lost that 4 or 5-2. We got away with it IMO, but what a relief. Even when we were winning and at FT, Blackburn End made it very clear that Ismael, Gestede and Owners are not wanted at Ewood Park.
  17. Sammie off again at Ipswich with a knee injury. He's not had a lot of luck since he left Ewood, shame to see.
  18. He hasn't earned the right to look so pissed off with the line of questioning. When you take a team from 6th place to bottom of the league in record time while showing half the squad out the door, you don't get to start telling journalists what questions you want to answer.
  19. I'm not against a petition but I don't know whether we should centre it around financial club losses, because I think you can count on both hands the number of English clubs who don't run at a loss. I think if anything that would give ammunition to the people who defend the Venkys, who say the must be great owners to give us £73k per day to keep us running (whether they actually do give us £73k a day is a different argument) I think protests need to be centred on mismanagement, lack of ambition, falling attendances, lack of direction, the 'strategy' and everything else. I appreciate it isn't as headline grabbing or as effective a strap line as "£73k per day", but again I just worry how some would use that against protestors to say that the Venkys are great owners.
  20. I remember this film and I think I may even have had a copy of it on DVD, but I can't remember whether it was any good or awful 😄 (it could be both to be fair!)
  21. The person posting that also doesn't understand the difference between Blackburn Rovers FC and with the upmost respect, Bury. Bury are small club with a good old history but who, when we last played them at Gigg Lane, were outnumbered by away fans. There is no comparison between the clubs beyond the fact they're both in East Lancashire.
  22. I can imagine it being written by a club employee, I don't think there could be many genuine match-goers who could press send on that tweet, young or old
  23. I'm sure the Wednesday fans will have a party at Hillsborough tomorrow regardless of the result and league position. I can only dream of the party we'll be able to have if the Vs ever leave.
  24. Yes and regardless of the division they are playing in their fans will be going into games optimistic, feeling that whatever result they get, everyone at the club is at least pulling in the right direction. They're a historic club with a good fan base, they'll be getting at least 20,000 every week in league one, probably 30,000 if they're playing well and they'll eventually back in this division. While we'll be rattling round in front of smaller and smaller crowds, fed up.
  25. It probably wasn't helped by some of our moronic fans chanting about killing him regularly at home games. I'm sure no one was seriously intending to do him any physical harm, but it's just a really brainless thing to sing anyway, for several reasons. He was probably able to say "I think I should step back due to threats to my safety and wellbeing". Resulting in him getting a year's salary on gardening leave.
