His value is at least an average championship wage going off the number of games hes now played and reflecting his age and future sell on potential. Why can't they do with Batth what they did with him ? Give him the contract and get another good year out of him whilst buying enough time to find or bring through a natural younger replacement. Then in the second year his role might be reduced but he's great back up and on the training ground/dressing room. His dilemma might be more money here for another year or less at Derby but a 2 year deal. If our lot can't find some middle ground to keep last seasons best defender they've weakened the team again before even losing anyone else. He is a priority signing not an afterthought just because he's 34.

Why would Derby and a manager as good as Eustace offer him 2 ? This club has a self inflicted no more than a year for over 30's policy and it's just another in a long line of stupid policies. They are in the horses for courses frame of mind whereas here i suspect we are back in the grab who you can for wherever if they are affordable and have a chance of quickly increasing in value. More likely hes decided or been told to take the club line on this and only comment when they do or some other story breaks. The LT in recent years very follows the lead of elsewhere on these kind of things, somebody else breaks the news or does a story then they quickly follow with their own. They aren't local investigative reporters anymore and i also suspect the club itself has a lot to do with gagging stuff.

Preston are fishing in the same waters as us but they had more of a pressing need given last season and obviously are putting their stock into lads with a bit of championship/English league experience rather than low level overseas punts. We on the other hand need to be retaining the very important players we've got - Travis & Batth arguably are the most important - and signing a bit of quality to build on last season. Instead we look like letting the best players leave again without a fight and rooting around for squad fillers with half a chance of increasing in value. There is no specific aim here other than wage bill reductions and increasing slightly an already low squad valuation.
