Nobody has questioned his effort but the salient point is he's too lightweight to do what he's being asked - or more likely demands - to do. Are we a team who can afford to carry one player in a system designed around him in return for one pass that carries a 25% chance of being converted into a goal ? There ca n be a place for him but he has to be a cog in the wheel because he isn't the engine that drives it but that's how they try to do it.

People keep using the word potential in regards to Cantwell but he never really shows any. Yes he's one of the only actual footballers we have but we can't keep having the team set up just for him to drift around falling over. We aren't making the best of what he might bring and he shouldn't be anywhere near the captaincy.

As someone has already mentioned they probably just signed off the use of whatever money was available to pay off Ismael and his crew instead of bringing more players in. Just think the balance of probability, based on the evidence we have both in terms of Ismaels flaky character and how things are said to have happened here in the past, suggests things have finally come to a head and something has given.
