Valérien Ismaël: Former Head Coach
Tomphil2 replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Problem is they haven't been bothered about losing money it's debatable that its served them some kind of purpose in their accounting process. Seems now though that they want to lose less so the model is being tailored to that and will lead to league 1 eventually as i'm sure even they know. So a lower cost lower loss future is on the cards. -
Apart from when he dropped in 'we can trade with academy players' in one of his clueless waffle interviews. Quite what he meant who knows but it suggested to me he sees them all as saleable assets before they've even been near the first team. Either way it's definitely best if he stays well away from it.

They had done on quite a few of them but we have to remember a lot of them were on big long contracts unlike now, allegedly. They got rewarded with one year contract extensions on promotion which probably was part of the deal when exercising the reduction clauses so they didn't really lose out long term. -

They had bounce back first time in mind last time though and even though wages dropped they were still double figure weekly pay for a lot of that squad. Plus they spent a bit with promotion in mind. The weekly wages of these players is no doubt in the main significantly less than last time and presuming they weren't going all out for an instant return there'd be a net transfer scenario rather than a minus one. That might well balance any initial shock to the losses column and depending on what they do with the academy after the first season costs could be pulled more in line with established lge 1 clubs. A load more variables offer themselves up as well, bin the training ground and move everything to the academy to save rent. The academy would probably be bookmarked to provide most of the lge 1 playing squad moving forwards so that would need maintaining but not forking out for transfers and bigger wages balances that a bit. Shelve work on the ground and pitch as standard required are lower plus areas of Ewood could be mothballed etc etc. Scary stuff but Indian accountants thousands of miles away won't give a shit about all that. -

Yes the loses would only really be a massive hit if you continue to try and run on a Championship budget without the extra income that league brings. If costs are immediately brought in line after relegation then so are the annual loses. Far less budget is needed to tread water in league 1 than be a top contender for promotion or a championship ever present. -

I think the top dogs lost interest and willingness to keep chucking money in years ago but Barry and his pals refuse to let go of it. So they continue to play around with it but under serious financial restrictions from the top dogs who now just ignore it all. Barry runs the 'Venkys' arm of the company or should i say he is the name on that door so my take is he's been told use your profit from that for your playing the head company won't top it up anymore. Hence he's allowed to keep his toy but the managed decline has ramped up a notch due to less available input. -

Owners say we need to lower costs what can you do about it ? Advisers/directors running the club present a plan, owners sign it off. That is how things tend to work. -

There is still the odd true centre fwd knocking about, Hull have one, and the odd poacher, which is what Leonard should develop into, but really these days it's just... Left sided fwd, right sided fwd, in the middle rwd and in the hole fwd. Of course they have invented names for them but that's just the gist of it in basic terms. One day someone will go old school with 2 wingers, a centre forward and a poacher and rip a league to shreds. As it stands though the 'striker' is no more. -

I think that is exactly how its happened although imo the real drivers of this are hiding in the middle somewhere and this plan was hatched in the later days of Mowbray, hence them letting him go rather scruffily. It nearly backfired spectacularly as JDT almost overachieved and raised the bar where they didn't want it but once he'd been reeled back in and him and GB weren't the right puppets Waggot regained control by prioritising league status over moneyball. His card was well and truly marked then though so the 'middlemen' and their man Suhail bring in Rudy to shake things up and implement a more aggressive version of what they tried before. Removing every obstacle in the way with the ownerships blessing and installing his own puppets and data driven model. And here we are. -
The gloaters/clappers/deniers/head in the sand or superfans call them whatever you want, are championing the fact 6.5k actually turned up. That tells you all you need to know.

v Hull City (h) - 31/1/26
Tomphil2 replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
A weeks training with the lads who are coming back will hopefully help things and although Hull are in a bit of form we should be able to match them. Conceding piss poor goals and missing the odd gilt edged chance that comes our way remains the biggest threat. I'm thinking 1 - 1 again. -
'A deal worth up to 3 million' can be structured many ways it doesn't mean they've just tipped up 3 million quid.

Barnsley with the help of nIxon are using us as leverage to get more money out of Bristol City, where he'll inevitably end up. The nickoteens and happy clappers will wail 'what do we expect they get 20k every week'. Bookmark it. -

'Investment signing' Money tends to suddenly become available for one they think they can polish and flog on flog double. Regardless of where or where not they might blend into the team, this is why we have the managers we do. -
You do feel that one or two sides we've had in the past would be right up there this year it's a poor league at the top though same as always in the rest of it. Christ knows how Preston are up there they are shite and Millwall also. Had we kept Eustace and that squad even with a couple of cheap additions we'd be up there again i'm sure. But in typical Venky fashion another great opportunity thrown away so the agents can earn their corn.

Usual planted bull shit that we've heard a dozen times before in the last decade although nice to see you 'got real' and altered 20 mill a season to 15 mill a season. If a club gets promoted from this league it wipes those losses out and resets itself financially if done properly but to do that it needs running correctly and funding not massively but sustainable investment year on year on the operation. If it doesn't get those two basic principles it goes backwards bit by bit all across the operation and the loses become more and more until it drops into oblivion regardless of '15 mill a season'. That's where we are at and it's the opposite of entitlement to point it out, it's called realism. On the 1990 to 2010 point Blackburn Rovers is about the 12th most regular top flight team in English history which makes your assertion bollocks.

If we had an actual board of directors, proper ones, he'd have been in the 3 games and at least 3 points or your out ages ago. -
That's experience for you and we desperately need it i'd be starting him from now on.

A few soldiers, 2 artists and a truck load of cadets.
-
A good couple of thousand down i'd say plus the ones who were already staying away and still are.
-
Every game he misses a golden scoring opportunity. Jimmy Quinn got roasted for less.

9k ST's counted, thousands not there. At least 1k Watford God knows how many complimentary's issued no doubt. I'll be amazed if the real figure is anything over 7600 including the visitors.

They counted the Watford contingent 3 times !
