Valérien Ismaël: Former Head Coach
Tomphil2 replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
He's getting effort out of the players but that's it. Too much emphasis on running and not enough on actual football which is why he likes headless chickens like De Neve, Henriksson etc. Has a good by mid champ standard left back in Pickering constantly wasted on the bench in favour of the left sided Jason Lowe. Sometimes you have to alter the team according to the best you have available but he doesn't. We are back, albeit a different style, to trying to make players fit a system that they don't but he can point to running stats and say yes they do. Well 1 win in 11 and yet another game with not one shot on target says NO THEY DON'T. We know what he's up against with injuries but there is still enough available to do better than that. Way too much on carrying people like Cantwell also whilst wasting Baradji too deep. The clock simply has to be ticking on him now. -

But despite the ice they are all happier than here and at least he'll be used to tiny home crowds. -

The longer the contract the more time you have to pay the fee over and also base a chunk of it on add ons. Also it can compensate a bit for a lower wage 'we can't give you that much over 2/3 years but we can give you this much over 4 years so you had the security' That kind of thing that they've done before with the likes of Armstrong and Gallagher although bigger figures involved obviously. -

All manner of things really, less traffic jams if you're lucky, less driver hours, less diesel etc As you say meals and snacks on the bus and straight to bed when they get there but you're going to be leggy in the morning not doing much until you get to the ground and do pre match. I know Eustace had them walking up the sea front at Plymouth last time we were there. -

Rovers team used to train Friday mornings then travel down in the afternoon for away games. Distance ones they used to fly or occasionally the train but in the Waggot era i got told his method was train Fri afternoon and travel in the evening for distance games. Not sure if true or if it makes a difference or not. -

More chance of finding a hens tooth stuck in your boiled egg than Rovers winning down there. The bogeyest of bogey grounds for us it really must be the journey down that Blackburn teams don't like. -

The original and best ever Rovers transfer rumour for anyone predating 1992. The Tony Ford one was quite good as well although sadly i think that one was true ! -

I'd assume he'd want more than this lad being a British player already on thousands per week. -

They won't have committed to anything like that as an initial fee it will have loads of add ons. This comes hot on the heals of them flirting around the Barnsley lad but not offering more than a million or so, that's a good marker. They've done what they always do and taken a punt on the cheaper waged option. -
Great to read stories from such long standing supporters we need more of it on here it might break up the angst and bickering a bit. Saw a post on Facebook the other day from Rovers at Spurs i think it was the FA cup run up to the 1960 final ? Must've been half a dozen different people talking about the games then that they were at including that one and it made such a contrast to the normal crap you read on there.

He's obviously been carrying something for months and i'm sticking to my original opinion that he needs minor surgery but is trying to put it off as long as possible. Chances are he'll disappear completely in a month or two. -

It's if hes physically up to it week in week out that bothers me and always does with Scandi's and African players. They tend to fall into two camps, strong physically and mentally or weak as piss on both counts with very little inbetween regardless of actual ability. Numerous examples and how long before he's beasted into a strained hami by this lot ? -

Great that they've made what looks to be a decent signing finally, no doubt pushed through because of the backdrop of severe unrest. I've seen a few gushing on social media again and all i'll say is if you think they won't look to cover this with future sales you are off your rockers and then some. For now though it's a positive move. -

The 10th most successful club in England. The 12th most prominent club in England in the all time Top Flight league table, amazing considering we've not been in it for nearly 14 years. But we belong with the medium sized clubs who don't feature on any o those lists ? It's not entitlement and it's not unrealistic to expect a billionaire owned club to retain its ambition and expect them to try their hardest to put us back to where they pulled us from. That clearly hasn't been the aim for a long time so to assume fans should be happy just trying to tread water - whilst the club provides big wages/bonuses and career/ego platforms to a few people in the middle - is wrong. -

Not fit.... typical doing it on the cheap yet again... By the way is Mercers strike rate any worse than Nixons ? And he doesn't do it for a living although his betting tips do need some work 🙂 -

Defeatist mentality. Oh this is where we really should be so lets stay here in our zone forever. Meanwhile we'll watch other smaller and medium sized clubs regularly pass us on our journey to sit with the Oldhams and Swindons. Because they were once in the Prem as well ya'know. -

Some of won't but will probably miss games when it suits them because they are pissed off or can't be arsed. There is a lot of hypocrisy surrounding all this. -

They'll offer him less but a longer contract that's how they seem to do things. -

They'll be crazy if they don't sign Baradji to be honest even if they do flog him again in summer. Good business by the middlemen to be fair but crap for fans and team building if he's only passing through in the agents vehicle BRFC. We better enjoy him whilst we can. -

They haven't actively tried to sell it either and people are on record saying they didn't want to. So how the hell do we get any bids other than sitting in fantasy land waiting for a Saudi to pop up and offer 100 million ?????? Whilst the club slowly turns to shit ! -

You can guarantee most of them will read this board more than they post on there. Has drog been on a recruitment drive on the LT comments section ? Seems to have a few from there, i cannot believe in 2026 after 15 years of that lot i'm still seeing 'naive' and 'bad advice'.
