  1. He’s the wrong age to be trying to play on with that injury record. If he had any sense he’d be concentrating on picking up a coaching job somewhere.
  2. I’ll give him 10/10 for courage. Would I play on a leg so badly broken it needed to be plated ? No way. I’d like to be not walking with a limp or with a stick after I retired.
  3. I was only thinking about this earlier today. The sign of a really class player is whenever they’re asked to move on up to the next level of football they do it effortlessly and immediately looked like they are part of that team. Wharton has done that each time. Youth football to Championship football - tick Championship football to Premier League football - tick Premier League football to International football - tick
  4. Four centre halves isn’t enough, as we’ve found out in the past. Nobody has mentioned Pickering who looked a better bet at centre half than he does at left back in my opinion.
  5. He seems extremely injury prone. Reminds me a bit of Grella.
  6. Yeah, you’re right he’s a good solid player. He’s no longer at top level. The problem is he’s had more than his share of injuries. I don’t follow the Prem much but my scouts tell me that lad Mitchell, at Palace, is going as well as anybody Unfortunately the days are gone when you possibly had 16 to 18 English left backs playing at the old top level. You’ll know better than me how many candidate there are but there can’t be that many now. Maybe change to 5 at the back and play Saka as a left wing back.
  7. Just because he’s all we’ve got it doesn’t make him a top player. Ray Wilson, Terry Cooper, Kenny Sansom, Ashley Cole - they were really top left backs. Shaw doesn’t even come close to any of those.
  8. I think they mean John O’Hare. Top striker at Derby and Forest back in the days. He’s only 77.
  9. Southgate’s the “ added degree of difficulty “ in the set up. Tony Mowbray’s love child.
  10. Bowen was never going to more than a good Premier League player. The sky is the limit with Wharton.
  11. £ 8 million for Gally ? There is a god after all.
  12. I’m not Shaw’s biggest fan, and that was before he got injured. What’s it coming to when we only have one left back worthy of selection ? Graham Le Saux would walk into this team, even Steven Warnock would.
  13. We’re keeping him under wraps, he’s our secret weapon.
  14. Is it time for the old “ Private Eye “ joke again ? The England plane is on the tarmac, the players are coming down the steps, the pilot says ‘ Shall I leave the engines running lads ? “ Poor game, walking football again. It was crying out for Wharton to unlock their defence. Stones was poor on the goal, as was the keeper. Foden can’t run the show at international level. He’s waiting for things to happen, you’ve got to be a ball magnet in that position. All the wingers we had out there just kept coming inside and running into heavy traffic. Southgate out.
  15. Southgate likes Saka so I think he could start. Personally I’m not his biggest fan. He can murder second rate teams/players but when it’s the big boys he can be found wanting too often.
  16. And then you get Everton talking about £60 to £80 million for Branthwaite who didn’t even make the cut ! Who will win you more games - Wharton or Branthwaite ?
  17. Barring accidents I think that could well be our starting line up.
  18. He’s been stifled at City, he’s completely lost his natural game.
  19. Southgate can see what we can see. The lad can change defence into attack with one pass and he can do it consistently. What was it the other night, 36 successful passes out of 36 ! This is at international level after coming on as a sub on his debut. Players who can do that in the modern game are golden. If he was Spanish he’d be playing every game.
