  1. I’ve got to admit, I never was an Elton John fan. Same with Stevie Wonder. Top class musicans I’ve no doubt, but I just don’t connect with them. Possibly the best single live performance I’ve ever seen was “ Queen “ at Live Aid but I have no CD’s of them at all in my very large collection. I just can’t identify with them. Ditto Elton and Stevie. I read today’s review of the Cat Stevens set and I’m sorry I missed it.
  2. I’m watching it Gav but it’s all a bit “ Karaoke “ for me. OK I suppose for a guy who’s roughly my age.
  3. Limmie And Family Cookin - You Can Do Magic
  4. Johnny Rivers - The Poor Side Of Town
  5. Two reasons for the back spin - deceive the keeper and sit it up for the striker. If Jansen had have been on the end of my pass there would have been no need to apologise.
  6. Yeah, it had a message on it - it said “ Here, put this in the back of the net “ . Only once in my career did I get one as right as that, and the striker put it over the bar ! Every time I see him in town he still apologises.
  7. Prince La La - She Put The Hurt On Me
  8. Johnny Rivers - I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water
  9. The Rolling Stones - Key To the Highway
  10. Doctor Feelgood And The Interns - Mister Moonlight.
  11. Also a really great player in his day. One of the few, Roy Keane was another, capable of playing teams on his own when it was necessary. If you saw that European Cup final were Liverpool beat Roma you’d know what I mean.
  12. Richard Anthony - Too Late To Worry
  13. Get around the sides of your opponents and goals will come. Play in front of them all day and you’ll hardly ever make a clear cut chance.
  14. He’ll have been drinking the “ Keep Ball, Walking Football “ Kool Aid like most of the coaches today.
  15. There’s a really good article in my paper today regarding the new Bournemouth manager. Referring to his previous team Rayo - “ Unlike the typical small promoted team, Rayo did not park the bus. They took it on a ride and it was wild. “ He doesn’t want the game to be under control, he wants things to happen “ says their midfielder Mario Suarez. “ Rob in the oppositions half, be direct, open the pitch, get into the area “ ” Organised chaos may be one way of putting it and it’s a description Iraola likes. In fact , he says “ I prefer too much chaos to too much organisation. I prefer to play at a high pace, even if that means a touch of hastiness, than play at a slower pace and have a bit more control “ Only one side won the ball more in La Liga last year; only one side lost it more. “ ” Iraola talks about “ volume “ As Alvaro Garcia puts it ; “ If there are lots of crosses, lots of people arriving in the area, lots of attacks …..if there are three crosses in the same move, one will come off, it’s a matter of time “. Sounds like the football I grew up with. Death to “ Keep Ball “. It’s be interesting to see how he goes on at Bournemouth. “ Three crosses “ , that’s about our ration for a whole game. “ Lots of people arriving in the area “. He’s playing my song.

  18. There used to be two “ Robinson’s “ pubs in Rochdale. Now there’s only one. Neither of them would sell you a pint of “ Old Tom “. You could have a half or a “ pony “. A “ pony “ was about a third of a pint. My first wife liked a few halves - until she walked out of the pub one night and just collapsed in the middle of the road. The pub I’ll be off to in half an hour still sells “ Old Tom “ all year round but only in bottles. About a month before Xmas he’ll get it in on drought for a couple of months.
  19. The Five Satins - In The Still Of The Night. A nice bit of Doo-Wop.
  20. Phillips is supposed to be on his way out of City. They’re also trying to sign Guardivol. He’s going to be a top player in the future.
  21. I think he had a falling out with Souey, nothing new there I suppose. Didn’t he leave him out for a game at Old Trafford only to bring him on as a sub when it was too late ? The game when Dunny missed a penalty ? After that he wasn’t hanging around at Rovers. A truly great centre forward. See if you can find that bit of film from the 6-4 Turkey v Wales game.
