  1. I read a quote from Mark Robins at Coventry the other day. Somebody asked him what his priority had been when he first took over the managers job. He said “ Re-engaging with the fans “.
  2. Bigger, better, played at a higher level for longer. The best keeper in the World Cup in Japan/South Korea. I liked Roger Jones but Tim Flowers was better and Jim Arnold and Terry Gennoe were as good.
  3. Like most/all modern keepers he didn’t command the 6 yard box from corners/free kicks from out wide. We conceded too many headed goals from close in. That rarely happened back in my Stone Age playing days. Maybe having 20 players in and around the box makes life more difficult for keepers these days. One day maybe a manager will shove two small attacking players on the half way line therefore drawing back 2 or 3 defenders - he’ll be regarded as a tactical genius no doubt ! Other than that I’d no complaints, he won us games on his own at times. Best keeper in a Rovers shirt in my lifetime.
  4. There were a lot of good wingers then Jim. Every team had at least one. The likes of Peter Thompson only got a few caps. Our Mike Harrison only played for the Under -23’s.
  5. Friedel was worth a goal start when he was at Rovers. Brilliant keeper, some of his performances were out of this world. I used to go in a designer furniture shop on John Dalton street in Manchester. It was called “Lloyd Davies “. The owner was a mad United fan who was definitely in the know back then. Brad was also a customer of his. The guy told me one summer that Brad had definitely signed for Utd and it was just a matter of time before it was to be announced. What went wrong with the deal I don’t know. This was a few seasons before Brad left.
  6. The Crystals - Then He Kissed Me
  7. I had a brilliant view of the Fulham goal from the JW upper. It flew in. Didn’t MGP get another terrific volley in the first half ?
  8. We were in a pub on Rose St in Edinburgh 20 years ago and they were serving “ deep fried ice cream “. It was delicious.
  9. Well we signed enough of them !
  10. “ Camaraderie dulled by the new £100 million training ground ! “ Maybe they really liked removing the dog shit after all ?
  11. I can’t see either of Allardyce or Smith still being there in August. The juries out on Dyche, lots of Evertonians don’t like his style of play.
  12. Nobody knows the answer to that one.
  13. I was working out at a place this side of Manchester and when I went into the works canteen one of the dinner ladies said - “ Would you like a chip steak love ? “ I’d no idea what that was. It turned out to be a beef burger.
  14. And paid out £300 million apparently to do just that.
  15. I can’t argue with that. Results show they were the third best team in the league.
  16. It’ll be interesting to see how long they can hold on to the manager.
  17. I don’t think Gally will be sending him a get well soon card.
  18. That’s what depresses me most about the current set up. No passion, no real will to win, no busting a gut to win the ball etc. Just going through the motions. The only time we step it up is when it’s a no pressure “ free hit “ game like the West Ham and Leicester cup ties.
  19. 100 mile an hour stuff. Real football.
  20. Well I think this strikes at the very foundations of the game. If he puts an easy chance over the bar how do you know if he did it deliberately or not ? Once you start thinking the game might be bent you’re in big trouble.
  21. According to my paper he backed his own team to lose 13 times ! And he gets a sentence which a large chunk of it is when he wouldn’t be playing anyway ! It’s a disgrace. Kay and co back in the 1960’s backed their team to lose so if they did lose their winnings would make up for the winning bonus they obviously wouldn’t be getting from the club. Their careers were effectively finished as a result.
  22. I don’t like either of todays teams. I just wish there was a way they could both lose.
