  1. He was equally good in that FA cup tie down there when we got a draw and beat them in the replay at Ewood. Several times I thought “ bollocks, that’s in” and somehow he keep the ball out.
  2. I can’t see him making a success of the Leicester job.
  3. He’s a good manager but wether he can sort Spurs out is another story entirely.
  4. The best we’ve ever had in my time. You can argue about who was the second best. I always thought he was worth a goal start for us.
  5. Great stuff but some of those penalties were terrible. He still had to guess which way to go though.

  7. Well there’s a place going begging in the treatment room now Ayala has clocked out.

  9. Blacklaw ? “ Rafferty’s Pig “ . Carrying too much timber. His best days were down the road at the Dingle Dome.

  12. Just before my time but to get as many England caps as he did in the era when we weren’t playing Transylvania and Treasure Island twice a year says a lot.
  13. I never rated Fred Else. I lost count of the times I ended up scratching my head and wondering “ how did that end up in the back of the net ? “ Having said that I remember a game at the Dingle dome when he had an absolute blinder. One of the best goalkeeping performances I’ve ever seen. He was only beaten by a penalty and he got a hand to that.
  14. It’s a bit easier with keepers. If it’s going in the top corner it still wants saving.

  16. You never saw Keith Newton then. A Rolls-Royce of a player, todays football would be right up his street.
  17. Friedel Newton England Hendry LeSaux Clayton Tugay Bellamy Douglas Duff Shearer
  18. I read a quote from Mark Robins at Coventry the other day. Somebody asked him what his priority had been when he first took over the managers job. He said “ Re-engaging with the fans “.
  19. Bigger, better, played at a higher level for longer. The best keeper in the World Cup in Japan/South Korea. I liked Roger Jones but Tim Flowers was better and Jim Arnold and Terry Gennoe were as good.
  20. Like most/all modern keepers he didn’t command the 6 yard box from corners/free kicks from out wide. We conceded too many headed goals from close in. That rarely happened back in my Stone Age playing days. Maybe having 20 players in and around the box makes life more difficult for keepers these days. One day maybe a manager will shove two small attacking players on the half way line therefore drawing back 2 or 3 defenders - he’ll be regarded as a tactical genius no doubt ! Other than that I’d no complaints, he won us games on his own at times. Best keeper in a Rovers shirt in my lifetime.
  21. There were a lot of good wingers then Jim. Every team had at least one. The likes of Peter Thompson only got a few caps. Our Mike Harrison only played for the Under -23’s.
  22. Friedel was worth a goal start when he was at Rovers. Brilliant keeper, some of his performances were out of this world. I used to go in a designer furniture shop on John Dalton street in Manchester. It was called “Lloyd Davies “. The owner was a mad United fan who was definitely in the know back then. Brad was also a customer of his. The guy told me one summer that Brad had definitely signed for Utd and it was just a matter of time before it was to be announced. What went wrong with the deal I don’t know. This was a few seasons before Brad left.
