  1. He was class act when he playing for Rangers and Scotland.
  2. I was only thinking that the other day. Some of them have never seen a real Rovers team playing with passion, skill and flair. This dross on show at the moment is all they know.
  3. It's also about pride in yourself and your performance.
  4. Watching him against Chelsea that looked to be his level.
  5. I accept that team then was light years ahead of what we have now but the point still stands that defenders don't like getting turned around by players getting up the side of the defence. Watching that old film just reminded me how influential Tugay was also. The bloke was magic. The best passer of a ball I've ever seen in a Rovers shirt.
  6. Mm, we been hammering away at ten man Argentina for ages but it was a left wing cross from Peters that Geoff Hurst flick headed in that beat them. The 3rd goal in the Final came from an Alan Ball cross from out wide also. I take your point though. Ramsey had taken three wingers to the Finals, Connelly. Paine, and Ian Callaghan but none them impressed enough to stay in the team and he had two midfield players out wide.
  7. Anybody doubting the value of real wingers should take a look at " The road to Cardiff " in the nostalgia thread, Duff, Gillespie, Hignett, Mahon. They cut teams to pieces out wide. I'd make Mowbray watch it for a start.
  8. Some great football in those games. It makes what we are seeing now look like a different game altogether.
  9. 4-2-2-2 says narrow with no width to me at our level. Maybe it's ok if you're Real Madrid or Juventus etc.
  10. Let's see if next seasons season ticket sales bear out that theory.
  11. Exactly, we need to come up with a method of keeping clean sheets first and foremost. A good solid back five is the answer to that. I'll bet my boots Hughton will be doing that at Bristol. I can't see the point of bringing another central midfield player unless either of Travis or Evans is off.
  12. The trick is to keep talking and keep moving.
  13. I've had some success with " Wall " and now and again I get one of the questions, especially if music is involved, but 90% of the time I'm left scratching my head.
  14. I suppose a lot of people have got used to the football we've been subjected to in the chicken chokers reign. Expectations are rock bottom for a lot of supporters.
  15. Next to goalkeepers centre halves " mature " latest. I wouldn't write Wharton off without seeing him play. Get him up against Brereton in training, he'll look like Mike England.
  16. He's operating at a level above our guy, that's for sure.
  17. I'm expecting them to finish well above us now.
  18. I wouldn't agree there. Lambert and his two assistants whose names I've forgotten ( was Rob Kelly one ? ) was the most logical appointment they've made. Mowbray was a forgotten man when we appointed him.
  19. I think it's time you re-instated the usual " Relegation Thread " Jim.
  20. I've known guys like that, they have the happy knack of moving onwards and upwards just before they get found out.
  21. If he ever gets to be half as good as Trevor Francis he'll be some player. That's just ridiculous.
  22. I'd like to have another look at him, let's see what he's learnt in his loan period.
  23. You missed out Platt and Grayson from our very long roster of up and coming centre halves. I'm sorry but I'd swap another John MacNammee for all of them at the moment. Maybe that's the master plan to avoid conceding too many goal - play seven at the back, all centre halves.
  24. I know, we've been deceived a few times lately.
