  1. Reading the initial posts in this thread is interesting. There'll be one or two red faces on here now. Same with the early posts on the Sam Gallagher thread
  2. Yeah you didn't have to be a pro scout to see he looked the part. A very good full back indeed.
  3. You weren't at the World Club Championship game, Wigan V Manley then ? That showed how much of a Rugby League town Wigan is. The ground was packed to the rafters with over 35,000 on and there were hundreds watching outside Central Park just to get a glimpse of the game through a gap between the stands. I agree with you regarding Ian Lenagan, he's nobodies fool.
  4. It's " Jack And The Beanstalk " all over again. We sold our cow and got a handful of beans in exchange !
  5. It's same with the players, nobody will say a thing until the manager actually gets the bullet then the truth sometimes comes out.
  6. Apart from Travis there's not a tackle in any of them beyond the back four.
  7. It's even better now they're playing behind closed doors. There isn't a possibility of a " Mowbray Out " chant anymore.
  8. I thought Johnson did a great job with the " reserves " before he got promoted to chief drone pilot or whatever it is that he does these days. Unfortunately in my eyes he's become tarred with the Mowbray brush. They're all as bad, anybody with any degree of responsibility for that rubbish we've seen recently needs to go.
  9. How long can clubs carry on paying out daft wages with minimal income ? Especially teams in our league who are having to play behind closed doors. If next season has to carry on like this season those numbers may well be correct
  10. The way we allowed Wigan to walk away with the number 1 spot when we got promoted spoke volumes for me. Chances like that come along once or twice a generation if you're lucky. I'm coming around to the conclusion that the " Chicken Chokers " end game is to demoralise and reduce the fan base to such a point that they can wrap the club up and there won't be enough people left to make a fuss. Look at Bury.
  11. It's the football on display most of the time that does my head in. Dull, uninspiring, unimaginative, boring, tedious, gutless, I could fill a page with similar adjectives but they would all equally apply to the manager as well. For me football is there to get your blood racing and your heart pounding, it's to send you home with excitement coursing through your body. At the moment it's more likely to send you to sleep. Do they not realise they're supposed to be part of the " entertainment Industry " ?
  12. He'd run his race just like Mowbray has. We were going backwards, he had to go.
  13. Who on this board would have appointed any of Kean, Berg, Appleton, Bowyer, Coyle, Mowbray on a permanent basis ? I wouldn't. Most of them were completely off the radar as far as I was concerned. I would have appointed Lambert, so I'll stand by that one.
  14. Everybody in football will know that Venkies would take half that fee if push comes to shove.
  15. HMS Gestede sailed a long while ago. Warnock had him weighed up in five minutes.
  16. I'll probably be in a minority of one, but I've been there before, so I'll repeat what I said on another thread. I would have fired him at the end of the season we got promoted. I thought he was a pretty one dimensional manager with out dated ways of thinking. We didn't play well enough for long enough in games for my liking. He would have got another job on the strength of his relative success at Rovers and we could have got somebody in who could have taken us to another level. Of course the fly in my ointment is always " Would the Chicken Chokers have enough brain power to appoint someone who would be an improvement " It's a moot point but as fans we can't carry on down the road of minimum ambition even if they do. So should he be fired now ? Yes, I think he should. Just as he should have been fired this time last season when we went into another free fall.
  17. To be honest when did we last look like we actually wanted to be out there ? When did we last look like a team that enjoys playing football ?
  18. You look at the highlights of most of the goals outside the very top level and see where the goals come from. Balls played into the penalty area from the flanks. Those who've played the game will know why that is so I'm not going to repeat myself over again. What we have is blokes who 1) can't cross a decent ball in the first place 2) are playing on their " wrong " wing were their natural instinct is to come inside the full back instead of getting around the back. You're a right footed player playing on the left wing, you come inside and normally you will attempt the cross with your right foot. The ball will curl towards the goal and the goalkeeper most of the time. That's not a good ball for strikers either as it's moving away from them also. When I played full back the sole objective was to get the winger to come inside, that's what you worked on. Do not let him beat you on the outside. That was the golden rule. Lets say you get a left footed left winger, like Scott Sellars or Jason Wilcox for instance. He beats the full back on the outside, he sprints towards the bye line and at the right moment he crosses the ball with his left foot. Initially the path of the ball will be towards a point where the goalkeeper thinks he's got a chance of dealing with it, so tentatively he begins to move out of his goal. Then the natural bend on the ball will start to move away from him out towards the spot that your striker has judged the ball will arrive at. Because Wilcox has got near to the bye line the defenders have been turned around to face the threat from the wing and are no longer fully aware of where the strikers are in relation to the ball. What you now have is an ideal situation for any striker. Goalkeeper unsure of his position, defenders no longer in eye contact with whoever it is they are marking , strikers free to run into a goalscoring position. It's all school boy stuff, I knew this when I was playing youth football aged 15.
  19. Yes but he didn't cost £7 million.
  20. I think so, not that it will make any difference.
  21. If all is well in the dressing room after those three performances some of them want knocking out.
  22. Me too, it looks like he only signed Chapman to shut his fan club up.
  23. 7 and a half Sam Gallaghers ! I'll be having nightmares now. How many goals is that equal to - about 10 ?
  24. It's especially galling given the fact that he wasn't particularly impressive the first time he was here and he'd gone backwards in the two seasons he'd been away. Do we actually scourt players anymore to discover what their current form is like ? Johnson, Holtby, Walton have all been major flops as well as the two strikers.
