  1. Good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do next. I must admit to being a little underwhelmed when we bought him. I asumed that he would be cover for the left side (Wilcox and Wright I think). In the end he turned out to be one of my favourite players. Having wished him luck in his future career I do find his punditary bland, "He'll be diapointed with himself there Motty...." and all of that old tosh.
  2. My sister is called debs and lives in Sheffield, It can't be her though she's a Preston fan
  3. Who's heard about that film braveheart, its about a scottish warrior who's war paint is blueand white. It could almost be about Colin Hendry!
  4. Ellis Park Jo-burgh 2001 43 killed and hundreds injured. Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates From the looks of it, 2 things were different. First, it looks as if people were standing on the chairs and second, it looks as if they were removable folding chairs, which is far different from standing in front of a chair bolted into the concrete. As far as I remember the seating in Ellis Park is standard stadium seating. If there where a major stampede in a crowd the fact that there is a row of seats between you and the person in front and behind is irellevant to your chances of survival. This disaster was caused by a stampede and the subsiquent panic. Similar to Hillsborough the police made poor decisions and let a large crowd in to the staduim in one go, the stadium was already full and there was a stampede for the exits. Some where trampled to death between the seats, some where crushed to death in the gangways. My opinion, for what it is worth, is that well designed side filled terracing is as safe as anything else. Taylors recommendations where jumped upon by a government who had an overt anti-football agenda. Anyway I agree that this has been done to death so I'll shut up about it.

  6. Over the years I have had very little to do with Burnley, whenever our paths cross I realize a little more about the very different world that they inhabit. After years of hearing claims of their fantastic support (that contradict published attendance figures) and their glorious past (which seems to have been airbrushed out of the history books) I have come to the conclusion that although Rovers and Burnley are on the face of it very similar mill town clubs with fiercely loyal support they are in fact as different as it is possible to be. Rovers make little of the glamour of the big league, unlike their wide boy and glory hunting peers in manchester and the south, while Burnley suffer from a superiority complex or perhaps its a massive chip on the shoulder. They strive to crow about successes, real and imagined but reality dictates that they have had to develop as many words and phrases to describe defeat to Rovers as the Inuit’s have for snow. The most curious part of the whole thing is that the some elements of the media seem to have been drawn in to burnley's parallel reasoning, so lets not forget, or let anyone else forget (especially burnleys supporters) who won last night. From where I was standing it looked like Rovers.
  7. Gav You should press on with the vote, if you win you can have two seats. You could watch the first half in one and the second half in the other. You dropped the ball by telling her mate.
  8. Gav also made my son cry a couple of weeks ago
  9. I have a special interest in this subject as Debs is my sister and Gav is the bozo who is responsible for my current ticketlessness. Maybe in the interests of domestic harmony they should give the ticket away, maybe to a close family member.
  10. I won't guess the score but I predict that there will be four goals.
  11. My impression is that booing of anthems is fairly standard accross the world. Its I've never bothered me when Scots, Italians and Germans have booed GSTQ, but then again I'm not that fussed about singing it either. Its strange that when an English crowd do it everyone gets their knickers in a twist, especially English people.
  12. They don't seem to be low enough to attract large numbers of anyone.
  13. 0 - 0 I cant see Arsenal creating much and we're away from home so I recon it will be a no score draw.
  14. Of the 'Keepers that I've seen at Ewood, Gennoe, Collier, Grew, Mimms, Dickins, Flowers, Fettis, Kelly, Filan, Friedel and Enckleman (plus the others I've forgotten) I've got to go with Friedel. I loved Gennoe and Flowers is one of the biggest personalities we've ever had at Ewood but Brad is just awesome. Voted by his peers as the best keeper in one of the best leagues in the world says it all.
  15. Nobody who works for me has sex with anyone. Thats my job.
  16. Happy Days. Trips to Rochdale and Bury fantastic, I may start going to games again. Mind you the last time we played Burney in the Lancs Cup ('89?) I had to take a week off work on account of us only managing a draw. Shudder.
  17. The soundtrack to the Wicker Man. (The CD booklet has a picture of Britt Ekland in the nip!)
  18. Can I add my thanks and appreciation for such a warm welcome from all the Celtic fans we met in the Horseshoe and Bairds. I hope we can offer the same level of hospitality in a couple of weeks.
  19. Jordan That's awful, like the others I filled in voucher P and handed it over the counter after the game on Sat. The young lady knew all about it. I would definitely complain. Let us know how you get on. Cheers John
