v Millwall (h) - Saturday 19th February

Probably doesn't know who Ben Benson is. -
I just think we don't need to see it. The social media era though i suppose.
-
All a bit cringe i thought.

Maja was just an option as the poster asked for one. He scored 2 in 2 before getting covid didnt he? I'm sure there were others about if we tried hard enough. Too busy messing about with Hedges, who might be useful a this level next season, but who i predict will contribute nothing in the run in.

I wouldn't be worrying about play off tickets when we have scored 2 goals so far in 2022. -
Maja. The same folk on here suggesting its not a disaster that we didn't bring in a striker after Markandey was injured are the same folk who will be saying what a great season we have had when we finish 8th.

Two starts all season. Plenty of sub appearances though. 0 goals. -

Not really, because Hudds and Luton were both poor as well, I was at both games. 4 points dropped, and yeah fair enough we were solid enough defensively, but I think "rotten" is a pretty accurate description of our performance in both games going forward. One shot on target over the two, and that was a tame free kick! -
Yeah Sheringham was a great player. I think his partnership with Shearer for England though didn't really start until a year or so after we won the title. I thought Ferdinand would have been perfect to compliment Shearer and Sutton in 1995, Ferdinand and Shearer would go on to have a brilliant partnership in the 96-97 season too.

Not sure that will matter to be honest. A play off home semi final, and a final at Wembley there will be more than enough tickets for demand. A play off semi final away game should go to ST holders + x amount of away games first. -

Just because we got draws against sides in decent form doesn't mean we weren't really poor in both games! -
I bet his first game back will be Reading on the 19th March then goes away with Chile straight after.

Never works that, for us anyway. Several times this year we have had a time advantage to be more prepared than our opposition and each time we have been dreadful. Extra 24 hours on Huddersfield - we were rotten Extra 24 hour on Hull - we were rotten Extra 24 hours on Luton - we were rotten Swansea played midweek while we had a midweek off- we were rotten I think we know what happens on Wednesday. We'll be 2 down in 20 minutes and go down pretty meekly without threatening. -

"We have done all we can" -
Southgate was a midfielder back in 1995, it was at Aston Villa where he got converted to centre half. I thought 1 strong signing in each of the central positions was what was needed to sustain another challenge the year after. Plus maybe a left winger to cover Wilcox who was out for the first half of the 95/96 season.

Agree that it shows how far we have come on over the past 12 months. Last season though we had a 1-1 draw with Norwich in Mowbrays 2 wins in 17 spiral. Yes decent result in isolation, but still part of a horrible run. 0-0 with WBA whilst on paper isn't a bad result, isn't really a good result in my eyes looking at there results recently, and 1 win and 1 goal in 6 is certainly a downward spiral compared to our form behind that. -

At least 4 more games left in the Mowbray spiral yet. Rovers 0 Milwall 1 -

He's out for the season. Unless you mean Hedges, and he's no striker. -

We had Rovers fans behind both goals when Waggott rocked up and he ended up closing one of them. -

Not sure if correct topic but... Fulham away- 1230 KO and £35 a ticket. Another potential good away following killed there! -

£20 would have made it more attractive. As Matty says though, there's never a huge uptake in these. They would have been better doing either game £10 in all areas. -

Now if you had read the thread from the start you would have found that out a lot sooner 😉 We got four adults for this and just split the price accordingly, £16.50 each instead of £23. Not a huge saving but all helps. -
Blackburn Rovers 1995/1996 season
MarkBRFC replied to Nuttall is lost's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I personally think Kenny wanted to go out while on top, he actually wanted to leave during the title winning season to go back to Liverpool i believe? Also Harford wasn't the right man to carry on the success, if Kenny was to step aside i don't think his right hand man was the one to take the club to another level. Not strengthening the squad when in that position when we could probably have had our pick of players was also a huge part of the failing. A quality player in each central position would have set us up to challenge and possibly win another title in the next season or two. I remember at the time thinking Southgate and Ferdinand would have been great signings. Whilst it was an amazing time and i'm so glad to have witnessed it, we could have so much more. There is no reason why we couldn't have dominated the mid to late 90's before all the oil money started coming into the game.
