The January 2026 Transfer Window
Ricky replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
But I’ve seen him be so much better, at times unplayable, at stages in his career Chaddy. I think that’s why he gets criticised a bit. We all know he is technically our best player but I personally dont feel we’ve seen the best of him. -

I think part of the frustration for me is I’ve seen how good he can be and he still seems a shadow of that player. -

At 2-0 down he tried to run through 5 of their players, lost the ball, sulked, and didn’t track back as Charlton broke. He does it regularly unfortunately -

Cantwell doing his usual trick of running into people, losing the ball, and then throwing his arms up in the air while the opposition attack us. -

Connor O'Riordan not in the Doncaster squad today, haven’t heard he’s injured so assuming he’s on his way back for the weekend. -
Only saving grace was having £15 on Miller to be booked as it was always going to happen.
-
I know Chaddy rates McLaughlin but let’s be honest that first goal was abysmal from him.
-
Cantwell is a very poor all round footballer. The moment he loses the ball the arms get thrown up in the air but he doesn’t get off his fucking arse and chase back!!

I know this might be a bit of a random idea to the shit show that run the club…… but…. Why don’t we buy a striker to play in the striker position??? -
I was thinking it would take a mistake by pears to get Toth back in. There it is. Near post is the one area where a keeper shouldn’t be beaten. Awful all round goal to concede though, one striker against two CBs.

You don’t help yourself Chaddy mate. All the evidence points to us being pretty abysmal when it comes to January windows, so much so that it’s basically led to our last two managers leaving. Yet because Nicko has said we’re getting a bid in for a winger (a position which we don’t actually use) you think it’s all roses. I do wonder if VI is using the media to push the board a bit. He’s aware that he is trying to compete with a bang average squad and knows he needs more quality. He’s playing a dangerous game trying to push this lot into actually signing someone decent. He’ll be out of the door by mid February. -

I’d be reluctant to bring in a CB as it would surely make more sense to bring O Riordan back from his loan. An older head wouldn’t be bad at the back but I feel the focus needs to be at the other end of the pitch. -

It was such a poor lacklustre performance. Really bad from Cantwell I thought. He should have been able to take that game by the scruff of the neck and dominate it. Instead he made bad decisions and his shooting was way off. Really poor. We are so light up front. Surely Gueye would have done more than Henriksson managed. -

One of the worst games I’ve ever watched. A lack of quality from both sides -

Been well on top but could have easily been 1-0 down there. Probably the one player they wanted it to drop to as well. -

Surely Wednesday can make some available on the day? They need the money and will be aware that they could sell another couple of hundred potentially. -

I spotted someone had mentioned it but couldn’t remember who it was. Did they sign a new striker as he seemed to get regular minutes at the start of the season and scored a couple of goals, then he was restricted to 20 mins or less each game. He’s recently had a bit more game time again and scored a few more goals. Just made me wonder if they signed another forward who had gone to AFCON or got injured. -

I also wouldn’t be surprised if we revisited previous deals. Sambou Soumano was linked last year but they wanted £5m and we were offering £2m. Maybe that deal becomes more attractive to them as he’s out of contract in the summer. -

Agreed Mark. We clearly won’t spend the money on wages for experienced players for the league hence why I’ve thrown a few left field calls in the mix. I’ve based it on markets we’ve looked at previously. The only thing with the couple I’ve mentioned is that they aren’t out of contract in the summer. I think that’s probably something we’d be throwing in the mix as well ideally. -

Alibiousu seems to have also ended up at Korjvijk from a prem team so will possibly know Ambrose. It’s been a good move for him so maybe he puts a word in. wonder if Gueye fancies a move back to Belgium? A swap deal could be of interest. Korjvijk are looking good for promotion so Gueye could be sold another go at the Belgian top flight. Surely he’d score enough goals to get them promoted….. wouldn’t he 😄 -

Based on your last sentence and also our seeming love of revisiting the same old clubs for our transfers I wonder if we’d go back to Kortrijk. It’s where we got De Neve and I’m sure another player from after they were relegated to Belgian Div 2. They have a player called Thierry Ambrose who has 10 goals and 9 assists in 17 games. Started out at Man City but didn’t make an appearance. Out of contract in 2027 so there would be a fee but he was out most of last season injured so there’s a gamble. Again, I know nothing about him but looking at clubs we’ve dealt with before. I think Kortrijk had a link to Vincent Van Tam who Gestede knows from his time at Cardiff. -

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos Goes into his last year of a contract in the summer. Currently has the best goals per minute ratio in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell. I know nothing about him at all but he’s Australian and will know Miller. Who knows if they are close but he’s scored a goal every 3 games at Motherwell but doesn’t seem to have been a regular as he’s only made 31 appearances over the last season and a half. Hes scoring a goal every 141 minutes at the moment. Any of our Scottish football followers know anything about him at all. We probably need to be thinking of players a little out of left field. -

So you’re not bothered about what Hull did but you can spend an entire transfer thread talking about what Birmingham have done in terms of signing Kyogo?? The fact that Hull moved him out from the centre could well be down to the reasons we are seeing, that he’s not the strongest in the air. That’s not to say he can’t do a job in a back three but that being the main man in that back three isn’t perfect for him. It does feel that you have a free pass to say anything on here and the moment anyone else says something different you jump all over it. Personally think Dykes would be a poor option but that’s basically because I’ve never ever rated him. There must be better options out there. Ideally younger and more mobile. It’s a bad time of year to make key signings, the January window is never easy.
