  1. Think you are mixing up Sheff Utd with Norwich who also recruited smartly from Europe, although they got found out in PL. Sheff Utd on the other hand basicly still has the core of the team that was promoted from League One. Their team is far better than the sum of individuals.
  2. Unless we have replacement in needed positions (fullback, a decent winger) there is no point selling Evans now. He was our best player during the good run. At his best he breaks up play and uses the ball wisely. We haven't seen that enough of him as he seems to have struggled with fitness at times because of all the injuries. Downing is our best passer, but can't be trusted defensively. Johnson is on/off where looks great in one game, and lacking match fitness the next. Travis is reliable and always put in the effort, not one to make things tick though. Not sure what happened to Davenport. Obviously talented which he proved at Burton in the Championship. Good energy and good passer, the injury might done a number on him.
  3. That is ridiculous! Astonished what people can make up. I've watched him several times for the U23 last season and he was clearly the best player there. Thought he could make the step up this season, but I'll admit he isn't ready physically. It's not only the coaching staff that rate him, the players are also big fans. Dack, Cunningham and Bennett have all been on record saying they how much they rate him. A loan could probably do him good. He obvoious need time to adapt to the higher tempo and physical aspect of senior football. He will become a very good player, that I'm confident of.
  4. Interesting stat. I think one of the major differences is that we had wingers at that time that could actually cross. Gallagher would be a lot more effective if we could actually get some crosses into the box. Bar Downing, noone else is capable of getting a cross into the box. Our overlapping full backs have a lot of opportunities but both Bell and Nyambe will always check back. Rothwell just drifts inside and runs sideways. Chapman at least tries to produce something, but can not be trusted defensively. Would really like a two-way winger, maybe someone like Gwion Edwards could do a job? Wouldn't be too expensive and can play right back as well.
  5. Stuart "King of crosses" Ripley. No contest when it came to crosses. He could put in a cross without needing to go past the fullback.
  6. Also clubs like Leicester, Derby and Everton are offering the U23 matches for free. Some require you to register as a user, but you don't have to give any card information. Some of the productions are really good with commentary, replays and interviews. I usually find the U23 very entertaining, the football in general technical and played to foot. Biggest challenge going to senior football is handling the physical side. Buckley is a great example of this. He's far too good for U23 and handle himself well physically there, yet you can see he needs time to adapt playing the intense level required at Championship level.
  7. As several has said, game management are so much better this year. Make's such a difference to have players like Downing and Johnson around. Walton is also very solid, good positioning and safe hands. Gallagher was very active and is useful especially away from home. Armstrong's goal was excellent, he's far better suited to play off the left, then in the middle. Everybody put in a shift today, however Travis was a bit under par, even looked leggy which is unusual for him. Probably allowed to have one game a bit off. Holtby looked very eager, good passer, hard to judge on so little time.
  8. Could see that as well. Williams, Lenihan and Tosin could be suited as a trio. Williams and Tosin have both full back experience and contribute forward as well. All three quite agile and far more dynamic then your Mulgrews.
  9. Yeah, he might not be a winger but he wins more than his share of headers. Graham wasn't close to winning one today and Gallagher provided defensive cover beating Aiden Flint in the air. Our main problem is that we are lacking outlet and having to resort to long punts vs Gallagher. Graham was well marshalled, Dack couldn't find any space, Downing drifted central so there was very little variation. Maybe Chapman could have been an impact player, but I've watched the last couple of U23 games and he doesn't look as sharp as he used too. It's a level he should dominate but he haven't
  10. Poor game to watch. Effort was ok, but not enough quality. Positive was another clean sheet. Looked solid in general and Lenighan/Williams duo are working very well. Credit to Walton as well who made a great save from Tomlin and looks far better at claiming balls in the air than Raya.
  11. Number 4 is Tom White, midfielder brought in from non-league this summer. Best player so far. Two players sent off for stupid stuff now. Platt and Doyle. Really need to learn..
  12. Clash of knees. Sore for a couple of days but should be allright. Amazing game management today. Johnson, Downing and Cunningham bring so much intelligence. Williams amazing, but Downing was so classy. He is still very mobile and pick up such good positions. Good decision making and great passes. What an upgrade on Conway, to be fair he deserved to start ahead of Rothwell on current form.

  14. I thought it was a very good game Yesterday. Never expected it to be a classic, but I thought we had good variation in our play by short passing, diagonals and bringing Graham into play. Gallagher provided a good outlet thorughout the game as he can both challenge in the air and run in behind. Some main observations: - Lenighan and Williams defended on the front foot which meant we would win back the ball at the half way line. Mulgrew would always stand off and drop back. - Cunningham is such a major upgrade on Bell. Strange to have somebody who is not caught out in position and posession. - Cunningham, Johnson and Downing has brought added football intelligence and it shows! When to pass, where to pass, when to tackle, positioning and when to create a freekick. Big improvement from last year. Game management so much better, would probably crumbled last season. - Johnson is a beast, especially in the air! 9 headers won Yesterday.
  15. I'll do you one better. We have 13 points from the last 8 games including last season. That is play-off form.
  16. We haven't been awful since Christmas. We had a great spell in January was great and the finished the season well with 4-1-1. Sounds like we agree though in giving him time to improve. I'm not suggesting that giving him untill Christmas if we continue to lose every game and are in the relegation zone. "Mowbray out" two games in is a bit premature and it sounds like you agree.
  17. For me it's far too soon to have consider Mowbray out. We are only two games into the season. Should give it closer to Christmas to before judging. Ultimately the manager is judged on results, which Mowbray is very aware of. So what are the facts?: - We finished 18/19 with 16 wins, 12 draws and 18 losses. Not great, not bad for first season back in Championship. There was a very poor run from Feb to April, but we ended the season with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. - This year should show improvement in results, but you cannot judge after two games in a 46 game season. At that rate Daniel Franke would have been sacked last season.
  18. 90% of Fulhams possesion in their own half, keeper having half of that. Don't understand where the 6 goal attempt are coming from, they only had one other chance as I can recall.
  19. Been dangerous on multiple times. Johnson with a couple of good opportunities. Armstrong enjoying a lot of space on the right side, with final ball not quite there. Fulham had very little except for a Johnson giveaway that Knockhart fired just wide.
  20. Really good performance, unlucky to be behind. I really like that the look of the team. Very mobile and balanced. Williams and Tosin has been great, quite incredible given Williams have no preseason and Tosin just arrived. Honourable mention to Bennett who has stifled Cavalliero and kept possesion.
  21. Watching Norwich taking a hammering against Liverpool. They have created some good chances but are totally falling at the back. Hanley looks shellshocked, and their promising full back just can't cope defensively with Liverpool's movement.
  22. Big fan of Reed, better than what we have, but not our biggest concern. Davenport will hopefully get fit and is quite similar as a player. Cunningham should be a major upgrade on our left side which was probably our weakest last season. Tosin should be an upgrade and defensively we should have improved from last year when all are fit. However, depth is major worry. Allowing Mulgrew to leave without a replacement leaves a big question mark.
