[Archived] Poor Old Souness, players bite back
bob fleming replied to Eddie's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Is this right? Or did I just make it up? Cole is reporting the FA to the PFA, he's not happy about the length of the ban or something, "not much of a break" he wasn't heard to say. -

Sorry Alan? You mean we've sold him?!?! I just thought he was injured! Well that's it for me - we can't compete anymore - we should merge with Darwen, Accy Stanley and Gt Harwood and move the ground to Whitebirk. The new ground can be sponsored by Blackburn with Darwen Council / McDonalds and called the Whitebirk McRoundabout McStadium. It's the only way we can compete with Arsenal. -

Eddie Niedzwiecki was a goalkeeper though wasn't he. Maybe he's going to cover this as well. Seems a strange one to me this anyway - Friedel a couple of years ago - was classed as one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best. Does he need a coach? Couldn't he work with the other keepers? As for Poor Old Souness, I couldn't be less bothered about what he's up to now. Although I must admit that it's good to see that his new, calm , "new man", approach to life is working well with his arguement with Robbie Savage. Anyway, Souness has gone, get over it, move on etc etc - it's not as though he was D. Duff. -
I was going to vote for Faz, Jim, but you talked me into voting for Mike England. I don't know what more I can do for you Jim, I really don't. In fact I despair.
-
No it wasn't, it was word for word! I take your point though
-
I'm sure Hendry played in the top division as well you know, helped us win some trophy or other. I voted for Mike England, for two reasons: - 1. The powerful, educated, convincing and thoroughly mature arguments presented by Jim Mk2 in this thread. How anyone can not be moved by Jim's thoughts, well, you must have a heart of stone. In Jim’s words if you don’t vote for England then you are “pimple-faced oiks” and “the great unwashed”. Similarly you need to have “extracted your digit from your rectum” in order to vote for England. This is something I have done especially for you Jim as I’m typing using both hands. 2. I reckon Big Colin will win this vote by quite a distance. I just feel that I've read enough from other posters to convince me that Mike England should get the second Centre Half position. Call it a tactical vote.

[Archived] How Good Is Rooney?
bob fleming replied to philipl's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I'd go with Scholes up front and then Scholes playing off Scholes in the "hole". How good is Rooney? Very good I'd suggest. To say that he's better than Alan Shearer though is ridiculous. Surely we can only judge that sort of thing at the middle/end of his career? If he scores as many goals as Shearer has done in the EPL and for England then he'll get all the plaudits he deserves. Scoring a hat trick against a poor European team does not make him one of the best ever strikers this country has produced. As things stand I'm with Al. I reckon Rooney is a fat bloke stuck in a 18 year olds body. By the time he's 24 he'll resemble Franny Lee. This is not a good thing. -
[Archived] Good Or Bad - POLL
bob fleming replied to Cocker's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
nah, Valery 97, Perez a year on 98, Valery had gone by then And people are moaning about signing Djorkaeff who's only 36? Short memories some people. Shame that Valery didn't get to play with Perez, still he had a good innings. Can't see how we can lose with this signing, as has been commented. Can he be any worse than what we've already got? -

Undoubtedly bad that I've created this new thread when it's being discussed in the Good / Bad topic. Please lock this and feed me to some lions. Apologies. (BTW - How's about "Djorkaeff? Good / Bad" as a title? Gives a bit of a clue as to what the thread is about) -

Beat me to it Abbey - then more recently, Sam Dingle, and now longsiders1882. Doesn't seem a bad lad/lass really - for one of them. Nah - that can't be right - I'm off out to smash up some shops in Ewood instead. -

We had no success in the 80's? OK remind me what outstanding achievements burnley had in the 70's then please? (Other than relegation) Our success in the 80's includes doing the double over your lot, getting to the play offs on three occasions and winning a cup at Wembley. "Your later succes does not grate at all" - BTW if you reckon you'll make the Premier League next season then you really are losing your marbles. -

longsiders - your signiture - 'even if you are in a minority of one, the truth is still the truth' - Ghandi. Didn't David Ike say something similar? As for your post. Personally I'm not old enough for the "success" you enjoyed in the 50's, 60's or 70's to "really grate". Maybe it's our success of the 80's, 90's and 00's that really grates with you? Be honest your football club is a bit of a joke in comparison to ours and has been for years. Let me remind you that we've never played in the lowest division and we've certainly never been one game away from leaving The Football League. One or two on here suggested that we should merge with Preston. I'm sure that if we were to take a vote on it that idea would be heavily out voted. You believe what you like though for the purposes of your "arguement". -
Those'll be the bright lights of Leeds. "Sophistication? Sophistication?!? I've been to Leeeds!"

A schoolboy error there Manchester Blue. Just because longsiders1882 comes across as being reasonable and fair minded, doesn't mean that as soon as he makes a post on here he's off to his own messageboard to say how "unbelievable" we all are. t'Blah t'Blah t'Blah Good question 92er by the way. Clearly too much for our man from burnley. -

Light Instructions Sox - after your trousers fell down have you tried "Mounting Your Light"? Actually, don't answer that - I don't want to know. -

Great post Sox - as ever. I took the cycle light instructions to the match. Looks a real winner and I've ordered one. I just need to get a bike now. Cheers Paul (Hope your lad had a good night). -

Don't want to repeat what everyone else has said but this really is starting to stand out. Nissa looks like an extra from Barfly at the moment. He went down with cramp in his right leg and then his left leg siezed up as well. How impressive. A lot of our players don't look fit or they looked tired. Maybe this new regime are going straight into it - working them really hard in training - to get them up to the correct fitness levels that other Premier League teams enjoy. My heart bleeds for our players. -

That's the Pie Eaters Arms - aka The Hesketh Arms. -
Excellent. I expect John Williams is weeing himself with excitement.

Words also fail me. Hughesy - you scare me at times. Have you tried writing to the club with these ideas?

Is that a sneak preview of next years Season Ticket Renewal pack JAL? Tris - if they were to "send Limos round with kebabs" I'd actually consider moving to Chorley. -

I can well understand why people haven't renewed season tickets and aren't turning up, and despite all the lists I happen to think that it' because the football has by and large been absolutely bobbins for the past season. When that improves people will start coming back, but it'll take time and some may never come back. It still doesn't make it right. It's about supporting the team through the good times and the bad. If people just want to go and watch good football and be entertained then they'd make Old Trafford a 300,000 seater stadium and they'd play Arsenal every week. That would be interesting. Anyway - Paul, I appreciate that it's short notice but can you post those bike light instructions to me for tomorrow night? Just in case of course. -

If you think we can't do better than a bottom half of the Premiership team then you're wrong as well. I'd guess that the "Top of the second tier" starts at 5th - 7th?. It'll take time though - due to the rubbish that the other fella left behind. I take it your over looking the fact that our last manager told Jansen to go find another club? That his time here was over? That basically he would never make it at the highest level? "Souness did better than all of us expected" - did he?. "pretty small town club" - in your eyes maybe - clearly not in Mark Hughes'. I doubt he'd have left Wales to come to a "pretty small town club". "OK the way he left us was a bit sh!tty" - half of me says that I wished he'd stayed - and got the sack. But then the other half knows that it saved us a small fortune. Hughes, and his team, will turn this club around. Sure I'll never forget promotion, nor the Cup win (fantastic days) - but don't go telling me that's our lot. We can do better - we can certainly play better and with more passion and imore deas than the last 12 months have thrown up. (The Cup win and a Euro Qualification go hand in hand BTW - it was unavoidable) -

1. Why do you despise him? 2. Why "RoverDrake" if you're from Portsmouth? (i.e. Drake was from Plymouth?)
