January Transfer Window.
Iceman replied to Upside Down's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Venkys and the board need to wake up a bit here imo. Its cool to have a war chest, but the time to strike the enemy is right now, so release the funds, and bring those quality players in. We were in this very position under Mowbray, a chance to strike, cement a top 6 place, and they got cold feet, and Bournmouth and Forest said thank you very much, we'll have some of that. Give it a go, and worry about whether it didnt work at the end of the season. We can re assess, as long as this window is done well, but also still mindful of FFP. We have to do better in terms of quality, because it says plenty about our scouting system, when we bring in players, and they are no where near the standard expected of them or this league -

we as fans always have the worst time during transfer windows when it comes to this team, lol -

If i was Van Hecke, i would think very long about signing a new deal at Brighton. The guy is too good to be riding a bench, even if its for a PL team. He can do better -

Did he have a say in the Mola or Hirst signings? When you hear him talk, he often refers to Greg, so its possible that he will work with what is given to him. He did rock up and inherit most of what Mowbray had, a squad that couldnt make 1 playoff in 5 years.. -

Thats not exactly what i meant. Im not expecting us to spend plenty. But what im getting at, is that we are in with a chance, so if there are players that JDT feels can take us home and secure our place, then i hope that he gets the support. We had a chance with Mowbray, and Venky's wasted that chance to cement a playoff spot. -

You can be good enough, doesnt mean the personel you inherit, is good enough to get you the results. Ill bet that if Pep or Mourinho had to coach Sam Gallagher, Mola, Hirst etc, that they would probably question themselves, as to whether they really are a good manager. This idea that a great manager, would automatically just rock up, and instantly turn a poor squad into winners overnight is a bit silly. Sometimes maybe, but in most cases it takes time and patience.. -

Was it Bournmouth last season, that went crazy in the January transfer window, which ultimately took them up? -

I just laugh at the mass hysteria around JDT. What has he been 5 or 6 months in charge, 3rd on the table, and still in with a chance of the playoffs. Mowbray had 5 years, without a single playoff appearance, and yet we had fans still living off a league 1 promotion with him. Cmon man, are we really wanting to get rid of JDT, and think the next bloke in will have us playing champagne football. Majority of this squad is still a Mowbray squad, and many are utter dross right now, some have fallen off badly ie Brereton. You really have to give JDT a few more transfer windows, to really see whether he can make whatever style he wants to play work. Team has been inconsistent sure, but blimey, some of you thinking that JDT is going to get things right after a few months in charge is just silly. -
As a fan from afar, Im trying to understand the logic behind this 1875 membership and priority access. It would be interesting to see what % of those 1875 members, have taken up this priority access to the away matches to date. So let's say 8 away matches to date (I'm not sure how many we have played thus far), so just an example.. but if the % is less than those without the 1875 membership, then I'm struggling to understand the system that's in place.. in theory, priority access should have been given on season tickets, rather than having to sell out extra on a membership.

Im not going to say I told everybody so, but I'm going to do just that. When I said Vale is better, well, I'll stick to that, even though Vale hasn't done much either. But at least we wouldn't have wasted money on an ineffective signing. There is no reason, why Markanday at the very least, isn't playing ahead of Hirst. Hirst shouldn't be starting games either. -

Inexperienced? Like Adam Wharton or Ash Phillips? C'mon Chaddy, if we willing to play the ineffective Hirst, we might as well play the inexperienced Garrett -

Well I remember being told how can I say Vale is better than Hirst when we signed him bla bla bla. I would rather let one of our own from the U23s run around doing nothing, than wasting money/wage on a signing that's doing nothing to warrant a place ahead of Dack, Markanday etc. -

Why is everybody afraid to let the likes of Vale, Garrett, or any of the U/23s play, when we are happy to let this George Hirst run around doing nothing? Dack, Markanday etc can't get a game ahead of Hirst? -

Really not sure why Bowler would want to go to Forest right now. I know PL club, but boy, they have already signed 465 thousand million players lol -

We need the money right now to strengthen the squad... It's pointless to keep BBD right now, unless he decides to sign a new deal ala Hirst for Leicester, and then we can at least get a fee come end of season..
