Sorry Eddie my mistake, I thought that there were two places available through the league anyway didn't realise there was now one for the league and one for each cup.
-
Does the place for the Carling Cup winners UEFA spot going to United not mean that there's an extra place through the league up for grabs? That is assuming they make the Champions league.

Superb stuff Bob and thanks for the preview you gave me to read in the pub. The blokes around me thought I was a nutter when I was reading it after the match.

[Archived] Blackburn End Drummers ?
LDRover replied to ABBEY's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Anyone remember the blokes in the 80's who used to shout "What do Rovers give us?" to which they'd reply to their own question "Full stiff c***" Or "What have you got on your helmets?" "Cheese" -
Bob F had a blinding idea yesterday. Make it £1 a pint in all areas of the ground. Not only would we have the quietest/least fashionable/most fickle and most unappreciative fans we could also have the most p***ed. And there'd be more of them. Getting served might be a problem though.

[Archived] Blackburn End Drummers ?
LDRover replied to ABBEY's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
In the absence of the option 'garotte those responsible' I have voted to have the drums stopped. John Williams is under the impression that the majority of Rovers fans think the drummer(s) are a good thing. He was a little shocked to hear that I (and every Rovers fan I talk to) thought the opposite. He did say that if there was enough of a negative reaction he would 'review' things though. Let's make sure he gets the results of this poll and the change comes sooner rather than later. -
Too right Bob. When Cotterill vacates the apes in the next few weeks, we can start it in earnest.
-
All this talk of a return to Newcastle for Bellamy is way off the mark while Shearer is still there. Remember, he decides what's what.

Funniest chant of the night for me was the ironic 'HANDBALL' chant that the nobs shouted for about two minutes taking the p*** out of a lame appeal from the rovers fans after about 30 minutes. Came back to haunt them when our old mate Wes Orange lent a helping, ahem, hand just before half time. Oh sweet irony.

So they can get there before the gypsies.

Got it on good authority that it will be 6 numbers between 1 and 49. Get on pal, you can thank me later.

For Redknapp read Venables. Found it funny that in the same paper there was a full double spread on who is equipped to take over. There were the usual suspects on the edge of the page and bang in the middle of the spread was the old barrow boy himself Terry Venables as the main contender. Strangely enough the person who broke the Eriksson scoop - Martin Samuel, the person who is Venables ghost writer in the same paper - Martin Samuel.

Good summation Simon. There's no doubt we can and will do better in the 2nd leg whereas I'm not so sure that they can. Before the game I'd have taken 0-0, and while 1-1 isn't as good we're still well in there with a chance. Let's not forget Chelsea drew the first leg at home with United last year before winning at OT, no reason why we can't do the same. Have faith everyone, we're only one good performance away from a return to Cardiff.

Well done to all concerned, a good read. 'Blackburn as a town has little to really be proud of, but the football club is the exception. It should be the heart of the community.' - I think in that one sentence the nail has been hit firmly on the head.

[Archived] Rovers 2-1 Portsmouth
LDRover replied to Neil Weaver's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
If you'd asked me last night you could have happily penned todays, I was touting it round but no-one was interested! I'm with you on the slagging off players bit though. There's been times over the past couple of seasons when we've been total pony and I suppose one can accept a degree of slagging where it's deserved. However this season I truly believe we've turned the corner and our performance levels are right back where we'd want them to be yet still the slagging of individuals and the team as a whole goes on. Makes you wonder what makes people happy. -

Amen to that. One thing about Portsmouth though, I believe, in Gary O'Neil they have one of the brightest midfield talents in the country at the moment. Successor to Tugay??? -

Garbage, absolute garbage. Savage's miss, Emerton's miss, Dickov's miss, almost constant pressure first half and yet we deserved to lose? -

Danny Murphy is unsettled at Charlton if today's Mirror is to be believed. Would be perfect replacement in my view but maybe out of our price range. Anyway, here's to another 12 months Toogs. -

Totally off subject slater scott but was it you in the LET the other night who got banjoed in the kebab house? -
Honestly don't know. How many of us were delighted when we signed Barry Ferguson? And he turned out to be a right pile of Barry White.

I have a feeling that Petrov will leave Celtic this summer, possibly for Ewood as we are most certainly interested.
