John Eustace - our head coach
martonrover replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Utter nonsense. How did getting rid of Eustace work out for Birmingham? I’ve just seen an interview with him on ITV and he had the class to say he is sorry they have gone down, (as a local lad he obviously supported them). He walked in to a total mess here, on and off the pitch, and please don’t bother with the seven point gap stuff because the direction of travel was firmly downwards. It’s not been a bed of roses, but he has achieved the objective and that is all that matters. There isn’t a manager on Earth capable of suddenly turning us into a good team, capable of winning week in week out. We had the worst defence in the league and he addressed that. The real problems lie further up the food chain, meaning any manager / head coach will have his work cut out. -

Yes, the bottom line is that they have generally fought hard since his arrival. Once that became evident I started to become more confident about survival than I was before he arrived. -

We all do, Chaddy, but midtable would be utopia, unless there is a seismic change of direction. This lot are running the club into the ground. -

I’d rather aspire to be balanced than always positive. I’d love it if Venkys suddenly started running the club properly, but if it was going to happen it would’ve happened by now. Next season will likely be a fight for survival, at best. -

Fair enough, and get well Tony, but still funny 😂 -

Where is this parallel universe, Chaddy, and please can I come too? 😉 -

Brum potted him after a decent start to the season, then a mixture of Mowbray and Rowett took them down. -

They are the main problem, without doubt. Personally. I wouldn’t trust Broughton even if significant funds were available. -

…..then Suhail and the owners will laugh and tell them to f*ck off. -

Disagree. If I thought we’d bring in an upgrade I’d concur. I don’t care about statistics to meet an agenda. We were shipping goals left, right and centre when Eustace took over. With one exception, he changed that completely. Prior to Leeds and Leicester those games were being conceded by some. We won them both. The guy has earned the right to a proper chance next season. There are no relegations on his CV, (unlike certain other head coaches I could mention). -

I’d be more hopeful if it was Eustace bringing in his own players. He might get a say, but signings are down to Broughton, which I see as a problem. We need new owners. All the problems lead to their door. If they pot Waggott, they will bring in another clown. -

Come on, who would they appoint even if we did pot him? It’s not been pretty, especially at home, but three excellent away wins and a number of clean sheets. It’s further up the food chain that we need change. -

53 points and safety achieved . Eustace has done his job. -

I don't see Eustace as fawning and smug. He's just not very media savvy and doesn't come across very well, so his interviews are uncomfortable. He doesn't strike the right balance between reality and positivity, and always strays too far towards the latter. He comes across as a bit thick, but I know a guy who was one of his school teachers and he described him as "bright". It's on the pitch where it matters, and for sure it has been a difficult watch, but if he keeps us up it will be job done for him this season, and he will have earned another shot next season. Any average manager from any division, (and probably any decent ones too), would struggle at this version of Blackburn Rovers. -
Largely due to the fact that his working relationship with the previous head coach was damaged beyond repair.

That is a fair and balanced assessment re - JDT , and not the sort I was alluding to. Eustace? He’s hardly set the World on fire, but if he keeps us up he’s done his job. I’m unmoved in my opinion that we looked like relegation on a stick towards the end of JDT’s reign. Since then we’ve been a tough watch, but if we scratch out enough points, that will do. Then we can all fret about the Summer Window. -

Yes, perhaps, and Mowbray well over-stayed his welcome, but I do think JDT’s overall performance has been elevated to well beyond reality by some. The horrible losing streaks, (for example when the pressure was on at the business end of last season), are clearly a Venkys trait, rather than a managerial one. -

Funny how no-one used to say that when we went on a ‘Mowbray death spiral”, the back end of last season being another good example. The head coach, whoever that maybe, obviously isn’t the main problem.
