v Fulham (a) - 5/3/22

But that’s about results over a sustained period. It doesn’t necessarily mean a team aiming for promotion has no chance of getting a result against one of those clubs. If Huddersfield can do it……….. -

This. Some folk are writing this game off, as “we can’t be expected to compete with Fulham”. It really does put our promotion credentials in context. -

…….and that is the biggest problem of all. A sad reflection on a 5 million pound centre forward when he’s deemed not good enough, even in the absence of any other fit centre forward in the squad. This all stems from poor decision making in January from the manager. -

Shambles. As for the three winnable home games ; Where are the goals coming from? -

Okay, bang goes the clean sheet in order to get something from a game scenario. Any chance we can have a shot on target in the first half? -

Reminiscent of the one Diouf got for Bolton at Ewood. -

For balance, fair play to the ref for not buying it and giving the pen. He’s let the game flow, so far. -

I remember the home game, (in April), when they beat us with ten men. Fortunately, it didn’t prove costly. In those days we had a few centre forwards, (and midfielders), capable of scoring goals. -

A plucky one nil defeat with chances going begging, which, "On another day", we'd have taken. -
The bloke who has scored a good many of of them is injured, and isn’t likely to be back soon. Look, I really hope that, “another day”, will finally arrive, and that someone will, indeed, “step up”.
-
Yes, the bottom line today is that we won. However, it was via a speculative strike from a set piece. All the evidence is that we don’t possess the fire power to win enough games.
-
Listening to Mowbray's post match interview on Sky, he essentially ignored the Fulham game and emphasised the home games coming up. Almost felt a bit like he's prepared to write next week off. Today has kept us in with a fighting chance of the Play Offs, but another run like the one preceding this game and we'll be out of it. I just don't think it's likely that players will suddenly "step up" and start banging goals in. That's why it was essential for us to bring in a striker or two. Even today, in victory, our problems were glaringly obvious.
-
Largely agree, including re - Dack, but even even when we have gilt edged chances, we seemly do not possess a natural goal scorer to put them away. I see the same pattern being repeated in forthcoming games. That puts a whole lot of pressure on the defence to keep clean sheets in order to accumulate points.
-
A crucial win, (thank goodness), but our deficiencies up top still look likely to be our undoing in the final analysis. We basically won the game with a freak goal, which won’t happen very often. There is a gaping void in attack, with no obvious solution until Brereton returns.
-
Hallelujah. Now all we need is a few more keepers to dive out of the way 🙂
-
If these two teams are promotion contenders…………
-
Shall we start a month of the goal competition?
-
Did he actually say that? 😂
-
It does with our finishing!
-
For the early part of his loan, Gallagher looked a decent prospect, eg a bit of pace and an eye for goal. By the end of it he was morphing into the slow, unthreatening lumberer he is now.
-
……and that decision lies firmly at Mowbray’s door. He admitted as much. He thinks he’s Pep Guardiola, but he’s actually Alan Partridge. Even before Brereton’s untimely injury, it was clear we were light up top, (and I’m talking about an out and out centre forward). This was a great opportunity for a promotion push. With likely departures in the Summer, I won’t be expecting another one anytime soon.
-
It's never happened prior to the following season, but a club which has switched on people running the show will discard a manager quickly if an immediate relegation looks likely. Unfortunately, I don't think we will have to worry about this in the Summer, anyway, (hope I'm wrong).

Agreed, and , as previously stated, we’ve only heard one side of the story, (the club’s). My bet is that the club were complacent about shifting the snow quickly, and that a rapid thaw caused the problem. Certainly, in the surrounding area the melted snow had become a large volume of surface water.
