  1. I fully understand your dilemma but I think it will make little difference, especially as Hendry is likely to win. If England were to win, the argument would be to partner him with somebody to complement him rather than to replicate him,but if Hendry wins England must be chosen as the other one as he's the best.
  2. The back page of the LET has its main story that Emerton and Neill only get back from their travels on the day prior to the Middlesborough match.
  3. I smiled when I read the report in the Daily Telegraph which included the following quote:"Souness is fast becoming the Premiership's new Tinkerman. In five games, he has tried a variety of attacking combinations. He has changed the shape on three occasions, risking a three-man defence when chasing the game in the second half." Hm.
  4. Exactly. The difficulty is getting them to leave.
  5. There were definitely positives in the match-especially the second half. But there were still negatives-I couldn't see where the equaliser was coming from and i would have been very disappointed had made Sorensen's mistake. The Radio Rovers team were very up-beat but had to accept the point of view of a caller who suggested there were still huge problems. Including conceding in the last 10 minutes again.
  6. We all need to be pulled down a peg or two. That's why we post.
  7. Amuroso didn't follow his man for the first goal-and Matteo appeared to be pointing this out to him after it had gone in. He was also marking the scorer when the corner was taken but had gone to sleep by the time Delanay knocked it down. Later on, a Rovers player appeared to want to talk to him, but he brushed him aside. There were a number of other mistakes he made.
  8. There is an article in the Sunday Telegraph similar to Simon Say's posting. It is interesting that even Arsenal are struggling.
  9. If he were 10 years younger we wouldn't be in the market for him.
  10. Don't know. But Tony Gayle had a reasonably good first half to the championship season and nearly always speaks up for us in the media.
  11. The disgrace was first in signing him and then playing him.
  12. Souness said he should be back to top form after 12 games. He's not far from that.
  13. The only thing we "know" is that Youri will have some involvement.
  14. Very few people should vote for John Macnamee but very few people will know about him. When he came to us from Newcastle "his legs had gone" and we were very close to the bottom of the old 3rd division. He became an inspiration. It is said that before he arrived the defence were a soft touch and that the other teams could kick lumps out if Jones in the goal.No longer was this the case after he arrived-he made the penalty area his own and ensured the team were not victimised by the opposition. One game I remember was against Brighton when he scored 2 goals. One appeared to be from around the half way line when he seemed to hit a shot in on the volley.Amazing. He always excellent against Bournemouth. For 2 consecutive seasons they came up around Easter time and as quite an exciting side, under a young manager who later went to Norwich and Manchester City, they were confident of beating us and getting promoted to the old 2nd division. Each time their star striker, Ted MacDougall scored early on. Then Macnamee would go and have a"word with him" and he would do nothing else during the game. Each time we won 2-1 and John Bond eventually moved on.
  15. What a misquote! I was making the point that England only played in the top division and Hendry had a much more checkered career.
  16. I don't think we could be that lucky.
  17. I wonder if we should consider Elvy and Pryde.
  18. I thought the Villa fan did a reasonable summing up. And Burnley based their colours on Villa's.
  19. Mike England was an excellent centre-half. Manchester United were expected to sign him but it was in an era when they didn't always sign the best players. If he had gone to them, he presumably would have won one European championship-maybe more? And they would have gone on to dominate rather than into decline. If Hendry is his main rival then I would have to go for England. How to compare them? I think England only played in the top division. Hendry was a reserve at Dundee and then went to a team in the second division where he had amazing success but at that stage was not a class defender. Hendry did become a good defender under Harford. England was always a good defender. They were both better centre halves than centre forwards but Hendry played in the second division, England in the top division.
  20. Bad news about the signing-36 year old reject from the trotters who isn't match fit. Good news is that Hughes has recognised problems and acted . It will be interested to see where he plays, as I thought we might have split strikers. Time will tell.
  21. I think Perez played for Bastia but he started with St Etienne which is why he got stick from the Lyon supporters.
  22. As usual, people are in opposite camps on this. I don't rate him and I can't see why Newcastle would even consider buying him.
  23. When the Rovers went to Aston Villa, we were already relegated and Villa were relegated because they lost to us. Apparently the supporters sang " Who killed cock robin?".
