Ronnie was a Preston lad, not a Blackburn but Preston were not willing to sign both him and elder brother Ken.
Sherwood:don't forget that Kenny tried to get Geoff Thomas after we had got promoted but the Crystal Palace Chairman kept putting the price higher and higher so we didn't do the deal. There was also going to be a part exchange which of course also fell through. So Sherwood stayed.
To repeat what I said on another post, it is going to be interesting to see how Hughes reacts to his comment on Radio Lancs that the players are not doing on the pitch what they learned in training.
It's certainly going to be a long hard season.
In his first season he performed really well when he arrived-arguably he over-performed.The second season he was very poor and played very few matches. Not a lot of value really.
There are players who we need to bring in for virtually every position. However, the first player I would like to get rid of would be Amuroso-clearly not worth £30,000 per week.
I stopped subscribing to Sky Sports partly because the quality of the extra matches wasn't as good as the best commentators were working on the 2 main matches.
The improvement towards the end of last season was because the midfield became a lot more defensive, Tugay played well in an attacking sense and Andrew Cole played well and made chances for Stead.
Flitcroft played on the right of midfield, Douglas on the left and we had a youngish central midfield player to complement Tugay.
Could Youri play the Cole role? I really don't know but I feel we have to remember the lessons from last season.
Hughes has already made a mark by helping Emerton improve but I also agree that he is also making tactical mistakes.
A good friend of mine is a Blackpool fan; apparently McMahon went round shouting at people and didn't get the best out of them.Hendry does not shout and has taken a totally opposite approach. Maybe Hughes will eventually have a similar effect but it might take longer than we at first appreciated.
I have been mainly disappointed with him and he agaim appears not to have ruled the game in the way Viera etc might have, but my main point is......it must be like playing for Scotland.
Premiership clubs are increasingly finding it difficult to sell their seats for all matches-and it's not just us. There was an interesting article on this subject in yesterday's Daily Telegraph.
