  1. In case anyone missed the LET today, the Sports Editor,Paul Plunkett, had an article entitled "Odds are against Souey". Apparently he is 7-1 third favourite to be the first mangerial casualty in the Premiership. Ahead of him are Keegan (4-1) and Moyes (6-1). Bobby Robson is 9-1.
  2. I'm not suggesting a poll, but wasn't that the best post ever?
  3. The late Noddy was a real cult hero. John Butcher was probably the worst keeper ever for the Rovers-tying with Collier-made even worse because Kendall couldn't sign a promising young keeper from Bury as he had too many keepers on the books. Oh and the promising youngster went on to play many matches for Everton.
  4. Where did I say we should have signed Lopez-I was referring to an article in the LET which explained why we hadn't signed him. I find it very interesting to see the range of emotions that Souness as a manager arouses. I don't rate him, I never have and I'm amused that an increasing number of supporters are waking up to his limitations. I think he has wasted an awful lot of money, from the signing of Hignett to the present day. His unequivocably good signings include Friedel, Berg and....? A good manager should be able to improve players. He is not very good in the transfer market-he signs too many players he has worked with before and he makes lots of mistakes. Well, should I post it and get lots of aggravation from people who don't agree with me?Well what the heck.I've been supporting this club for a long time and I'll be supporting it for a long time in the future. What I'm not going to do is to support it blindly.
  5. I will be interested to see if Thomson can play in the middle. There was a school of thought that he could eventually take over from Filtcroft.I'm still undecided how good he is:I think he overperformed at the beginning of his spell with us. Then his form dipped and he got injured. Last season he was another disaster. He still has a lot to prove.
  6. "I'm not going again after last season" "I miss too many games re-arranged for SKY" "I would rather get SKY to watch the Rovers" These are all excuses I have heard over the last 12 months. I think instead of being critical we should ensure we don't put them off coming back at some later stage-no-one likes being bad-mouthed.
  7. It was in the LET that we hadn't gone through with the deal with Lopez because of his wage demands. I don't see why I have to get behind a manager I don't rate and who has wasted so much money and who, despite the disasters of last season and his statement that he would take on board where he had gone wrong , appears to have changed very little.
  8. Good post Superstella. Perhaps no-one will agree but I still think the way Souness treated Cole last season when Cole had played really well but wasn't mentioned in Souness's summary reflected badly on Souness.
  9. If our great manager had told the local radio abouy the embargo maybe they wouldn't have broadcast his name. It is rather pathetic,in my opinion, that Souness is blaming a supporter for what might or might not happen.
  10. There seem to be a lot of similarities in the teams being chosen by many contributors but the questions I have to ask are:is anybody excited by this team and is there any point in going to buy a season ticket to go and watch them?
  11. Neild was asked not to name the player. Souness appeared to be angry that having gone to the trouble of getting the player to join the squad, having asked the local paper to honour the embargo, he later found out the player's name was mentioned on local radio. Had he gone to the trouble of mentioning it to them or was he just frustrated at himself for another cock-up? Whichever;he did appear to be frustrated.
  12. Andrew Cole wasn't with us for 3 years. Andrew Cole worked his socks off for us many games last season and wasn't even mentioned by Souness in his summing up of the match.
  13. I was delighted when we signed Andy Cole as I felt the time when we could sign such talented players had gone-just think about some of the strikers we had signed after Chris Sutton. He helped us stay up in our first season. He scored the winning goal in the Worthington cup. He helped us stay up in our third, disappointing, season. He formed a very good partnership with a raw youngster. He appears to have found it impossible to work with Souness-nothing new there. The board have decided to sell him. Good luck, Andy Cole.
  14. Except that Alan is now saying he's not leaving Newcastle.
  15. I was delighted when Cole signed as he was the kind of class signing I thought was out of our range-compare him with some of the other strikers signed before him. In my opinion he has helped us win a cup, contributed greatly to our staying up in 2 potential relegation seasons as well as helping Stead make an excellent start to life in the Premiership. We do not have a replacement for him on the books. I doubt if we have the money,or Souness the nous,to get a suitable replacement.
  16. The LET said the rumours that the Rovers were going to give him a free etc were a long way from the truth. We shall see what happens.
  17. I think Saturday's LET suggested that Souness's favoured pairing in centre-midfield might well be Ferguson and Tugay.
  18. What I find interesting about Mourinho's approach is that he appears to want to sign players who can play in more than 1 position.
  19. As I've read the last few pages of this posting, what has delighted me is how positive so many fans are about the Rovers and how much general agreement there is.I think there have been some great postings.
  20. I can't say I'm excited about Matteo but I also think the era of our making exciting signings is over(a statement of the bleeding obvious?). What is more important is that the signings actually improve the squad, that they are not injured early on and that they prove value for money. On that basis the evaluation of the signings should be at the end of the season.
  21. Thanks Waggy. I think people have to take on board that football costs a lot of money. I've got a really good pal who is a Bolton fan. His son isn't working but is also a Bolton fan. It costs the dad in the region of £50 for them both to go,plus money for a couple of pints plus any more incidentals. It's a lot of money, so they choose their matches. I fully sympthasise.
  22. Good post waggy. I think Souness and Williams have to take on board that the Club has to deliver a quality product on the pitch. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have the Rovers in their hearts but it really is hard to justify the cost of a season ticket, especially given the considerable number of poor sesons in the last 3 seasons.
  23. Just as Souness seems not to be mentioning Flitty so he seems to be completely ignoring Andrew cole when talking about the strikers at the club. i also thought a Glasgow Rangers fan had once posted that Tugay and Ferguson can't play together.
