  1. He did though nearly cause the travelling scruff to riot (never difficult) in a game at Wycombe just by being scheduled to come on the pitch and do the half time draw. Also he took North End to the cleaners in a play off game at Wembley in a Wycombe shirt !
  2. I hope they haven't frozen the budget on him because he wouldn't go to India.
  3. I don't think they paid him anything like 6 grand a week but it was certainly a lot more than our lads were on that's for sure. I since heard that Jack went guarantor for these signings but the increase in crowds where what covered the money.
  4. No wonder we've been crap on them for years.
  5. I loved the guy he was no nonsense straight talker and he fell out with fans a time or two he wasn't afraid to say get behind the lads and stop moaning FFS. Fans always responded though because they respected him and he had us batting at the right end of the table and some decent football.
  6. Gayle, Garner and Sellars For a skint club with small crowds that was some forward line put together for nothing.
  7. I though he scored all 3 of the pens ? As for his off field habits it may have put off a few top clubs - Liverpool were looking at him once but wanted someone bigger - however that lifestyle was par for the course in those days. Bigger pisspot, more unfit players than Garner had decent top flight careers. I think it was just an era where there were a lot of good strikers around and clubs preferred big target men types in top flight. Also players tended to stay with clubs and play most games non of this rotating 20 subs giant squads stuff.
  8. Legend and cult hero gets thrown around on a whim now but this guy was both. Loved just playing for Rovers and living in the town, hated Burnley and they hated him which was quite ironic seeing as we hardly ever played them. They once even ram raided his shop ! Not on the same level as a player but second best finisher iv'e seen at Rovers behind Shearer.
  9. For those who can't come down is this gear available anywhere else ? Looks good.
  10. They aren't bothered about the overall figures just any opportunity along the way to spin it and make themselves look good.
  11. They'll probably agree on 30 quid for the Leeds game home and away.
  12. It won't be a big crowd they never ever are people tend to save their brass for the real thing. If it hit 5k that's a good effort.
  13. They might well be holding him back a while given recent chip paper reports !
  14. Potentially they know they can't sell many, not the case here.
  15. Someone putting that about to save their own blushes after saying it was a done deal and about to be announced.
  16. Yep non of them were wealthy enough to stick tens of thousands in every year to buy players and nobody was buying football clubs back then apart from the odd spiv. I think the sales of Hird then Barker a few years later basically kept the club out of debt whilst the custodians kept the lights on when there was no players to sell.
  17. They missed the boat to boost gates after promotion from league one and now they are missing it again. Less is more, typical Waggot thinking. I'd bet my last quid that if they'd knocked 50 pounds off the early bird we'd be around 10k now and that would have been a significant boost. We had a cup run last season which wasn't projected for and must've boosted the income easily enough to offset that.
  18. It won't be much different up until kick off when 3k walk ons will pitch up.
  19. To be fair they did keep the lights on when not many of the town bothered showing up back then.
  20. From what iv'e read in the past and heard from guys like Robert Coar the former biggest shareholders just referred to themselves as custodians of the club on behalf of the town.
  21. Hull another club who had gates not to far off ours a few seasons ago before they cut match by match tickets then STs to kick start a mini boom again. Always much easier though to draw big numbers in towns and city's that size.
  22. The supposed fine margins between a bog average youngish second tier back up keeper and an experienced established proven quality guy around his peak years can be monumental come a seasons end.
  23. Sadly he was lacking it last season as well that's why he lost his place and maybe why he'd be better loaned out till Jan. His timing is way off the pace required.
  24. These are leg stretching games nothing more.
