  1. Doesn't really matter who did what because if he was sold Mowbray wouldn't have seen the money anyway. Probably would have got the wages for half a season that had already been budgeted for that's how it tends to work here. Rothwell has been no worse than 4 or 5 others who could be mentioned and lets be honest he was probably only busting a guy because he knew there was interest. I wonder how his detractors will feel next season when Hedges is the square peg in that round hole.
  2. " After a full pre season we'll all feel more relaxed about playing Bradley" ....
  3. 3,700 ? Are they in the lower tier now.
  4. Pretty standard stuff though from him when we look at it ( aside from Johnson false 9 in which he outdid himself there) but in terms of points. Win, lose, draw = 4 points from possible 9 and we all knew we'd end up back in that groove again soon, once the enforced change or two freed him from the naming of the same successful line up every week.
  5. Then bemoan the fact the squad, nah entire club doesn't have one target man or one central striker in it aside from a kid who's not really been near the first team. Then look at the first half v Derby where Khadra and Dolan i think it was basically played as wingers whilst Johnson tried to be a false 9. Nothing in the box to aim for, virtually zero goal threat and gave the opposition freedom to play it out from the back. I know we ended up winning and it's in the past but i'll never get over what the hell that was all about. This is with Gallagher, Giles and Dack on the bench first half. Fast forwards a few weeks and we see BB, Dack and Dolan left of the bench first half and Giles right, Gallagher left and Buckley trying to be a false 9. Almost a similar wretched repeat of the Derby first half and still no forwards in the box, crazy oddball stubborn stuff.
  6. It's nothing to do with Tony though, after all he's only the manager he isn't out on the field !!! Tactics, formations, subs ? No that's never played any part because he tells the lads what to do every week.
  7. We've said it before but i'll say it again they'd rather have 8k in here paying full whack cutting costs and bobbling along. The set of 9th highest paid directors in this league have overseen year on year price rises and decline in core support since promotion form league 1. This season the penny dropped with the result of all this seeing the lowest support for over 30 years so panic sets in when the team starts doing well and crowds don't even go back to the midtable Gary Bowyer levels. You reap what you sow and we've seen both sides of that this season but on the back of it there is a real chance to improve things. Will they ? Nah probably just some token gesture or other.
  8. Point being you constantly try and make out like Mowbray has been badly done to compared to other managers awash with cash. True in regards to parachute clubs but not so true in regards to a lot of the rest of this division. Owners aside the set up at this club and the backing hes had should see us always competing to be amongst the best of the rest. Not been the case until this season and that has been led by a 7 million pound striker and the facts are he was allowed to spend 15 million on 3 strikers. Not debating the merits of his judgement or what they may or may not be worth now because in terms of two of them he was proven correct. He still had the money to sign them though and i take issue with your assumptions hes only operated with a bag of washers and a bit of loose change. Many managers would give their right arm for the set up here they'd walk over hot coals for this job. We know the idiots wouldn't employ them but i'm not for one min standing by listening to the 'hard done by' nonsense in regards to Mowbray. This has been a dream job for him and his pals. As for the experts in the stands well there's a lot of real football experts on the dole.
  9. Mowbray chose to spend 15 million in the space of about a year 3 seasons ago and has only just got near the top 6. There's levels to this management game regardless of money and did forest have an academy turn out like ours to pick from ? Throw in the ability to afford loans like Reed, Tosin, Elliot, THB and the rest plus wages for Johnson. Holtby etc puts a little bit of a different perspective on it. What would Cooper have done with that lot ? Lets not keep pretending we are paupers.
  10. And when we were 2-1 down v Brazil in the quarter final it was crying out for a player like Matt.
  11. Not really, depends who they are and what they might be supposed to be doing. There might be an English branch of the Rao clan on there for all we know, probably isn't but the way these lot work anything is possible. Besides Akon was the man on the VLL payroll once over.
  12. To be fair to Rhodes he was chasing the Prem dream and he knew he'd never get that here. For all we know he took a pay cut to leave as here he was netting an alleged 45k pwk. Even if it wasn't that it was def around 35 grand so if it was only about money he could have stayed until and seen out his deal. Shame how its worked out as although he was never good enough for Prem football he is a lot better than the last few years have appeared.
  13. 10th highest debt in the whole of England yet 9 highest payers of directors in the Championship.
  14. Well we had the WEC Darwen End not long ago and i'm sure there was an issue not financial that made them pull the plug. We had various names of the Riverside stand and gave the shirt sponsorship away for free to Princes Trust one season....in the Prem. Seems they've got their act together a bit in recent times but still a way to go. Kudos to the ownership though for paying for their own advertising now.
  15. We've never had proper sponsorship since they've been here really that shouldn't need explaining. Doesn't that commercial income include TV money ? I find it hard to believe we've taken so much more than Preston under normal circumstances. Have the owners found another way to inject some funds ? There must be something in there that takes it way above the norm.
  16. As said time and again promotion is the only saving grace and being in the position we were just hammers home how costly it might be not making the right moves in Jan. Otherwise a cost cut to suit income ratio would be the only other thing and that doesn't bare thinking about. There are many other ways of boosting income though and with assets on the books now we can at least be a trading club. Why they don't take on proper sponsorship and make real efforts at filling the ground and corporate sections with a bold pricing initiative is plain daft. Expect more fixed asset sales and house building in the near future i'm afraid.
  17. And lets remember what really helped kick him on and show a different side to his game. Anybody waiting for Gallagher to morph into a Gallagher Diaz any time soon so they can hail Mowbray and blame fans is deluded. He is what he is and can still contribute but whilst others are here he'll continue to get shoehorned in because of the style of play. They've been busy creating formations to suit AA, Dack and now BB so big Sam is just the go to man to make up the numbers. Yet the money they paid for him and contract he's on mean they have to justify all that some how. We might well see him center forward next season if we lose top players but i don't think it will have the result we are hoping for. Meanwhile whilst the BBs and Dacks are around he'll play 2nd and 3rd fiddle wherever the manager plays him and we'll see the same stuff, plenty effort the odd goal but bags of frustration. I'll be honest i like him and feel more sorry for him than angry.
  18. He wouldn't though he'd probably just go for it if he had a budget. He's played the long game here for various reasons but main one being because hes been able to due to how the club is set up. Gullible owners, vacancies filled by mates, a couple of hours from home, fanbase who clung to his every word and good money in wages. He won't get that anywhere else ever so there'll be no place for bullshitting his way along. It'll here this is what we want this is what you've got, now go for it. That SHOULD have been what happened here in the season or two after promotion from league 1.
  19. Again no parallels to this discussion really. A kid supposedly much sought after signed for 7 million and the natural expectation that comes with that. An established player who's been here before and scored goals in a terrible team under a terrible manager, a guy who was on the books of a Prem side. A good LWB only kept out of his Prem parent side by a more established pecking order. Plays LW has some decent games and a couple of assists. Shunted to the right and told that is how they see him by the 'experts', turns in crap displays, clearly is neither comfortable nor happy about it. Nice try again Gav but experts or not we all watch the same games on a matchday and fans put the need for getting points and winning first. Developing some one else's players and shoehorning in expensive signings just to justify them isn't cutting it at the moment. First away goals in 11 hours of football was it ? Bottom of form table since Jan is it ? Feck all expert about that pal just run of the mill second rate stuff.
  20. It becomes an issue in Mowbray land when not only does it repeatedly not work in a lot of cases but he keeps trying it. Even more annoying when other players suited to these positions are left out and not because they can't take any part. How many times has he tried the Giles experiment ? How many times has it worked ? Yet he has assists from the left side ! Got to shoe horn Gallagher in though that's the issue and big Sam can't shoot on his left foot.
  21. Well if he went back to WBA and got a big budget it would be interesting to see if his methods worked under those circumstances. Because he'll certainly never change he's always done and said the same things and if they did work it would prove our ownership real fools again. If they didn't work then it would prove a lot of the theories of the past 4 years correct. I still think it's nothing more than the latest rouse to get him another good deal here sharpish.
  22. I don't know about paying him off that'll waste half the summer budget ! Better to get 3 good months out of him early next season and get some points on the board before he cries off again. Likely no Lenihen, no Van Hecke, no Nyambe We'll need him.
  23. Probably loan him out or sell him back to another Scottish club in summer. Remember the Stokes 'sting' %%%
  24. He could certainly start with one of Dack or Brereton even if it's only one half each that was what was badly missing on Saturday. Would have made a big difference in that first half it's no wonder there is the odd accusation of him faffing about with it on purpose. To see BB, BD and Dolan all on the bench with Giles in the wrong position again and Gallagher wandering about on the left in that retched first half was enough to make blood boil. No more of that now thank you.
