I know that those players were better quality overall but we seem to have players today coasting. Yesterday only the keeper, Rothwell, Brereton 2nd half and a couple of others seemed to be really up for it. 6 or 7 appear to be just going through the motions.

Over the last 3 years with TM we have had periods where we have gone on good runs for about 6 matches and then games without a win for 6 matches. At this time, I just can't see us putting together a good run that takes us nearer to the top 6. I would love to see Roy Keane watch and analyse half a dozen of our games and give us his opinion on the manager, the tactics and the players. Rovers 1 Boro 3

5 hour trip down the motorway to South Wales. Good job he isnt the manager at Carlisle - 702 mile round trip to Exeter yesterday. His constant excuses and negative behaviour is having a detrimental effect on the club, the players and it's fanbase.

This poor run we are on does not help youngsters like Dolan, Elliott and JRC. As each game passes you can see their confidence slowly ebbing away.

Around this time every programme included an insert magazine called Football League Review. The one inside this prograame featured a centre fold of Plymouth Argyle. Connections to the Rovers are Bobby Saxton, ex-manager and Frank Lord, who was a journeyman centre-forward we signed who proved to be a flopp, overweight and immobile. However he went on to become a coach in South Africa. Also Billy Bingham was probably the most successful manager of Northern Ireland and took them to 2 World Cups in 1982 and 1986.

I was at that game with my Dad. It was in October 1968, I was 13 years old. We used to go to all the Blackpool away games which always seemed to be night matches and had our tea at my two Aunties who lived on Westmorland Ave, near to Bloomfield Road. There was trouble during the game and after. Several people were taken to hospital after the Ammonia incident. I think we may have won 1-0, Malcolm Darling scoring. We were just a player or two short of getting back to Division One. Dick Mulvaney as an emergency centre-forward :) They had a decent team, Jimmy Armfield, Alan Suddick, Tommy Hutchinson and Tony Green (a tremendous player who I played against in 5 a side when he had retired with knee injuries; I couldn't get anywhere near him)

It was a night match in October 1968. I was at that match aged 13 with my Dad. We won 1-0, cant remember who scored. Will look through my old programmes tomorrow to check.

Would love to go back and watch this game which in effect was my first watching the Rovers, aged 9. I think I also went to a few games in 1962 and 1963 but remember little about them other than being lifted over the turnstile which was a common thing in those days and then Dads usually gave the turnstile attendant a small tip. My Dad took this cutting from the Sunday Mirror on 27th September 1964 and I’ve kept it ever since. The match was obviously the day before. (I also have the scores and tables from that paper which I may post after if interested). Trying to work out the team from that day with reference to the press report – Tyrone, Jim Mk2 and AllRoverAsia may be able to help. Something like:- Jones, Newton, Joyce, Clayton, England, McGrath, Ferguson, McEvoy, Byrom, Douglas, Harrison. I think Pickering may have been sold that season to Everton. Hope Oldgregg may get some idea of how good Douglas and Clayton were from this cutting. After this game, the Rovers became a massive part of me and my family’s life’s. Enjoyed every decade through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s when we struggled. Then Uncle Jacks 90’s and 2000’s glorious period, when we were a proper run club. How sad to see where we are today. First away game, Elland Road think it was over Christmas period 64 or 65, drew 1-1. Think Douglas scored the goal that day. Never felt as intimidated in my life. Such a hostile atmosphere for a 9/10 year old. My Dad had a season ticket from after the war until he was in his 80’s. Passed away 4 years ago. His favourite Rovers player was Douglas. Best he had ever seen was Shearer. Best other player he had ever seen was Finney.

You are right LV, John O'Mara was a poor centre-forward. Yet, he scored 10 goals in 35 appearances for us. I can't ever see either Brereton and Gallagher scoring 10 between them in a season as things stand.

What annoyed me last night was that their manager was on the touchline for 90 minutes organising, cajoling and instructing his players. Ours was sat on the advertising boards with clipboard in hand as though it was a Lads v Dads end of season jolly.

Totally agree. Very underrated and never flinched a tackle.
