  1. I know the sums involved now influence this mightily but cheap ticketing to woo fans back to the grounds is like taking paracetomol the morning after a hard nights drinking. Prevention is always better than cure and just like it would be wise in hindsight to consume less alcohol then so hindsight might have been advised not to aquiesce so readily to the Pandora's box that is TV.
  2. This is will probably a move by Tugay's agent to 'market' him back home in Turkey. He has often inferred that he might like to go back to Gala for the last year or two of his career where he is still apparantly revered. So a quick word in the ear (crossed palm) to someone around the Turkish set-up would allow him to prove that he can still play at top level in a match and especially in a match that doesn't matter. If nothing else it's a nudge in the direction of BRFC.
  3. I was with Souness at the time. The big difference between the two was that Dunny scored goals and Cole didn't. I think the crucial difference in both their careers was that Brum didn't develop Dunny as well as Chelsea developed Cole. Whilst 5.5m was brilliant money from our point of view and a move was probably due from his point of view I never understood him going to Brum in the first place. He really should have aimed higher.
  4. I hope he plays as well as we all know he can and that he stays fit enough to do so. BUT I do wonder if physically and mentally he is tough and hungry enough. We'll soon find out I guess. I rem posting on here after we were promoted that Souness should sit Dunny and Bent down with him in his office throughout the close season to watch endless re-runs of Liverpool matches from around 1980. Dunny (who does possess more actual skill) to watch the peerless Souness dominate midfield opponents and boss a game and Marcus to watch and learn not only from Ian Rush's breathtaking finishing skills but mainly his total involvment in the game. To any young un's, it was often said that free scoring centre forward Rush was Liverpools best defender. The basic lesson was to impress on our two how the burning hunger and desire displayed by Souness and Rush took them to the pinnacle of European football! I guess Souey chose to spend the summer on holiday with his family though!
  5. He'll do nowt until he stops getting his hair cut at the same place as Donald Trump. Seriously though the great underachieving Maccarone is displaying typical Italian traits by having a pop from a safe distance whilst in reverse gear! BUT Somebody 'proper' with better credentials should have said it as I do believe the inference.
  6. Spencey wanted a reaction and he got one so don't defend him. At least Brownies style is grammatically correct and far more mature.
  7. I've pointed out before that I judge players by how I would have liked to play against them....... On that basis imo our best centre half pairing would be Nelsen with either Todd/Ooijer alongside and with Zurab and Henchoz in that order of preference on the bench. It appears that not many of our members have ever kicked a ball in anger in their lives. But we all have to learn don't we? My lads a sixth former and he comes home most nights talking absolute comic-cut shyte about football too!
  8. Tread carefully Jim, my intuition suggests that you could be on your own now. About time too.
  9. I would imagine that in truth West Ham would insisit on that clause..... but if it was Neill's agent then without doubt he will have negotiated a golden handshake in the contract to send him on his way.
  10. Obviously sh1t. That must be why he hates all things australian so much. btw Jimbo how many more bogs than you has Rupert Murdoch in his house?
  11. Why on earth would he want to 'get out' of £70,000 per week? Alternatively........ ....if WHU get relegated and he exercises this clause then he certainly cannot be deemed a mercenary! He would then be due hundreds of apologies from members of this board, assorted media hacks and rick parry! Oh and he must really like watching old vids of Bobby Moore etc after all.
  12. How naive you are Matt! They are all hired hands and nothing else! Our best and most loyal defender had us in a submission hold wherupon we agreed to pay him more before he then suddenly remembered that he was carrying a long term injury. Guineas to nuts given the benefit of hindsight that if he was fit he would have bgugered off to join Arry's revolution as fast as he could. imo he only stayed because he would have failed a fitness test! Funniest thing on here for ages is to witness a solicitor whingeing about loyalty and over-inflated wage packets!
  13. All this daft talk should ensure an immediate slump in his form if my experience teaches me anything.
  14. Huge irony in Neill getting a bad injury on his debut after seemingly exhibiting iron man qualities for us. Got to say I was pleased with both Warnocks performance and his obvious pace and ability yesterday as I have not really watched him in the past for Liverpool. But I can see why he gets so many injuries.
  15. Credit where credits due. They have done well in selling off their 'surplus' big wage earners for big money whilst still managing to push hard for promotion.
  16. Quite right DP........... but I think death threats toward his family from some of Liverpools 'finest' didn't help in his push for his preferred move to Chelsea.
  17. It still begs the question just who the f%^& do Liverpool think they are? "Pull on the red shirt and the honour will cost you 30k per week". They are of course reacting to the embarrassment of what is tantamount in the eyes of the scally supporters, a small club poking them in the eye with a sharp stick. (We saw it when Uncle Jack was splashing the cash and the old RFW openly stated that MU would never pay over £3m for a striker!) If Liverpools attitude is actually kosher though it will ensure that they are always in the wake of the other 3. If I were the 'new broom' arab I'd see that as an opportunity to test his loyalty by halving Parry's own salary!
  18. Eh? 5 year contracts for the likes of Amoruso and Matteo Simon? It cuts both ways you know. Incidentally as for those two, BRFC had no qualms or sympathy over potting them and chucking onto the scrap heap had they? Quite right of course too but it just shows that there are two sides to the freedom of contract situation. Football by necessity is a hard and often dirty business innit?
  19. Tell you what Simon, given that Harrison is Todds agent I can see this scenario being repeated with him come the summer. Also don't tell me that all our better players will happily sign long term contracts now that they have seen what is on the table at some of the Premierships 'nouveau riche' clubs if all it takes is for them to play well and allow their current contracts to wind down naturally.
  20. Parry's living in the past and basing his views on past glories imo (and prob their own press and media based PR dept). He shat on 'little' brfc with Bellamy and wanted to do likewise with getting Neill on the cheap! I'm glad in a way that he misjudged the situation so greatly. If he wants Lpool to get to the summit of English football he needs to learn humility and use this example with Neill to re-think his policies.
  21. Sorry I was wrong! The above is most stupid post of the year. Sorry but your earlier commendably stupid effort about Sav showing loyalty to a club has just been beaten into second place gaz. Keep it up though Gaz. I've got to say you are a lot more entertaining than an inebriated Jordan.
  22. Neills gone for money! No doubtabout that and no doubt that that was his intention from the start. Just like Mr McNulty would go to ITV if they offered to double his salary from the beeb! I really find it odd that people appear suprised / antagonised / embittered by all this. Are people not capable of logical and rational thought processes nowadays? Good grief! Dunno if there is one but if so that must take the 'most stupid post of the year' award hands down. Congratulations gazsimm, being so stupid cannot be easy! I go along with that Shaddy. Coming after their steal of Bellamy I think they are guilty of arrogance and deceipt. I know it's business and all's fair in love and war but the sooner somebody whips Gerrard away under similar circumstances the better! I would just love to see him walk away for nowt!
  23. The carragher break was obviously accidental but were there any more? I don't know much about Warnock as I've admitted so whats his right foot like then Jim on a scale of 1-10? It's important nowadays and for a right footer Neills left was pretty good.
  24. Good summary but could 'struck lucky' be an example of wheels within wheels?
  25. Sorry but as countless clubs have found we have to! 'Big' clubs too suffer just the same, Sol Campbell, Macmanaman, Ballack, RVN etc etc have all done the same it's really not new anymore. Beckham is doing it as we debate. The English club that has adapted to this brave new world of freedom of contract is Notlob and they have exceeded expectations because of it. Using this Neill instance as an example we have NO option other than to offer to pay a good but not great full back 50k pw and match WHU which we cannot afford and which would upset the salary structure for the other players. To realise any profit in him if we followed that route we would then need to sell him on (not easy at that wage) for a few million (not easy at that age). I'm suprised so many find it so difficult to grasp the concept. Tell you all what think 'Armed Forces'. People sign on for a fixed term, it costs the nation a fortune to train them and then they leave and take their skills to civvy street for greater reward after that time is up..... with absolutely no questions asked. Whats the difference?
