[Archived] Rovers 0-1 Liverpool
thenodrog replied to Hypo-Luxa's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
EXACTLY Philip. I too have been suprised that no commentator or pundit have mentioned that. He WAS interfering with play FULL STOP. If Cisse he had been stood further back in an onside position Fowler would have taken another option other than trying to chest the ball through to him. The ball would then not have run through to Morientes and no goal would have arisen. Whats wrong with people? Far too many 'experts' in the press / referees association / FA etc have never possessed the ability to kick a ball in anger imo. They just dont know do they? -
Lots of potential at the Mags but I cannot see Hughes and his team wanting to work under Freddie Shepherds direction. I would think they are exact opposites. If he carries on as he is doing MH will get better offers imo.

Down to Liverpools excellent pressing tactics once they were in front. Tactics that MH has got us doing this season, and previously used so effectively by Bolton and Everton. In fact Liverpool must be like a Moyes coached Everton Ladies FC...... supremely competative but underneath just a bunch of soft tarts. -

I'm with you there murray92, two of the very best. Compared to other years this is really difficult as there are many goals of exceptional and breath taking quality. Bellamy's winner v Boro was fantastic in that we all thought we were doomed to lose. It's daft I know but the fact that Tugays's strike, Bellamy's 2 at Pompey, Neills strike at West Ham, etc etc etc are not even in my top three fills me with a certain guilt based regret. -

I dont know why but big club bias does seem to exist. Prob why i'm not a ref cos I would always (just as unfairly) favour the underdog. -

That scenario would seal Maclaren's appointment as next Eng manager by the FA. -
[Archived] Dahlin Insurance Setback
thenodrog replied to jim mk2's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
So Craig Bellamy is uninsurable to is he? Presumably if Avon had insured Shearer they would have taken the premiums and ducked out of paying the Mags if Alan Shearer had had a recurrence of his knee injury and been forced to retire? Bridge must also be uninsurable as presumably must RVN, Scholes, Cisse, Sissoko etc etc? In fact how many footballers have not had an injury similar to injuries which ultimately will have ended other players careers? -

How sads this waggy? I never bought a Sharp product whilst they were shirt sponsors for MU same with Umbro and a few years ago I changed our mob phone network provider at work from Vodaphone to O2 (yes I know but I hate MU more). I just wouldn't feel right subbing the plastics and everything associated with Merchandise Utd. If everybody did the same the corporate sponsors in this country wouldn't touch MU with a bargh pole. Every little helps. -
[Archived] Dahlin Insurance Setback
thenodrog replied to jim mk2's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
From that report........ "LONDON (Reuters) - The Blackburn Rovers have lost a High Court battle to win multi-million pound damages over a career-ending back injury to Swedish striker Martin Dahlin. The Premier League club sued their insurers Avon Insurance who had refused to pay out after Dahlin's career was cut short in 1999. A judge ruled on Wednesday that on the balance of evidence Dahlin, now a football agent, "probably" had a pre-existing condition and denied a claim for 4 million pounds. Rovers have fought for eight years to get insurers to pay out following Dahlin's injury in a practice match in October 1997. The insurers claimed there was an exemption clause that if the injury was caused by an existing condition they did not have to pay" Right. I don't pretend to understand the ins and outs of corporate insurance but 1. Can / Do we now sue Dahlin and his agent for deceiving us about his injury? 2. Can / Do we now sue the consultant who presumably gave him a clean bill of health? 3. If this situation is final football clubs should insist that players pay their own premiums which will be repaid to them at the end of their contracts, then if they lie about old injuries it's them who suffer. After that the clubs should mount a campaign to discourage their supporters from insuring with Avon. There is more press and media coverage for Prem football than you can shake a stick at. Legally this is fraught but maybe a free hoarding at every ground and in frequent camera shot either dissing Avon or promoting other companies which 'play the game' as it were. The post match background interview board would do for starters. Trainers bag / T shirt, 4. Are Avon now going to sue us for attempt to defraud? If we were not deemed to defraud then why has there not even been a %age payout order given that mistakes were obviously made by all 3 parties? 6. If all else fails dont get mad get even. -
WOE WOE and thrice WOE!.................AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH............. We're all doomed I tell ye......Doomed! BBC breakfast news are reporting Maclaren as being favourite!!!! Please let it just be an FA ruse to throw the press off the scent.

Agreed. Sven must be losing lots of sleep about Campbells injury cos if we perform badly in the WC he could end up losing his job!

Saw signs of this 6 years ago in Newcastle. The mags redeveloped SJP and were roundly criticised by the 'true, salt of the earth, traditional' supporters (it transpires that they are low earning people from Newcastle) for moving the cost of watching football toward the prawn sarny brigade. Keane criticised the Mancs for doing the same (didn't offer to take a pay cut though did he?). It seems now that those clubs followed the correct policy. If one sector of society is turning its back on football then why cater especially for it? I must say that banging on about admission prices to help low income supporters is in direct contrast to the amount of satellite dishes in the areas of cheaper house prices. Nobody will spend any less instead they'll spend it on ale, the missus and the kids will suffer by no longer being taken to matches of course but who gives one about them when Stella's involved? BTW.....Anybody remember Max Headroom, a nation transfixed by TV nad TV ratings, and best of all the blipverts? I rem thinking it was all fantasy. How wrong could I be? (just like after reading Orwell's 1984, in 1970 or similar I thought that the govt of Eurasia having spy camera's on every building and lampost and monitoring every citizens movements was impossible! Imagine that?!? ) So we are left with this....... if there are not enough middle class (or working class as I find is a much more accurate term nowadays) in Blackburn to support a Prem team then widening the hinterland to incorporate the entire North West from the ship canal to Scotland is the only sensisble option........... but I would say that wouldn't I? There is a limit of course but discounting admission prices is for losers. -

Good points on here about the legallities of this and that. BUT trying to stop the increasing influence of Sat TV is like Canute trying to stop the tide coming in. Nobody will apreciate this, brows will furrow and eyes will turn upwards in exasperation. BUT accepting that ultimately football will HAVE to adapt and cope with wall to wall TV football wes till come back to the fact no matter how unpalatable it may be to the traditionalists that there are simply too many professional clubs supporting toc costly an infrastructure in this country. If the mountain will not move to mohammed........... -

Welcome to the real World Dan. Word of advice 1. to you....get used to it it gets worse! Word of advice 2. to younger ones. Listen to your teachers and study hard! Jobs that seem to pay a lot of money in teenagers eyes soon become poorly paid when the full expenses of adult life are subtracted. -

Spot on SG! A death knell for our Premiership future. How many of those agreeing with this will bother going to the Rovers when they heve eventually succumbed to gravity and are down amongst the dead men? -

But with his continuing prediliction to injury, can he work for anybody at all? -
I dont think the board will share your view UB.......In fact I'm 100% certain they won't! Just imagine if we had that lot of plastics........ Shearer wouldn't have left, neither would Duff and Dunne. Hughes would never ever be poached away by another club. and............... .......... Bellamy would be on the bench most weeks!

I wonder if its because he learnt most of his managerial skills from the most successful manager in Premiership history? -
Cos it does mate. It's tough at the top! Try asking the latest music sensation to lower their prices for entry into gigs. Students dont get an easier ride at OT, Highbury etc (never mind students even the disabled are under the cosh at Chelsea) Problem is that the 'big' clubs have people queuing up to get your old seat. You simply have to get used to tghe ways of the world. btw NOWHERE IS FREE! If you were a Burnley / PNE fan would it be all that much cheaper to watch nameless and faceless players performing poorly? I dont know for sure and I stand to be corrected but I'd wager the difference will be less than you imagine.

"The sad loss of Rovers benefactor brought reality crashing down on the heads of Blackburn's board and fans alike. How to compete or even survive when cast adrift from the Premierships cash cow would mean a radical rethink. Promotion under Mr Souness lifted the gates back above the psychological 20,000 barrier with success in the league cup and a top six finish adding to the gates and feel good factor as well. The last few years have seen a change in mood in Blackburn, Mr Souness' aiming low philosophy became a major turn off, flirtations with the wrong end of the table and all too infrequent home wins made for a gloomy Ewood park. The sales of local favourite David Dunn and the mercurial Damien Duff added to the feeling that the good days had long gone even though the cash influx enabled the club to strengthen. " After all that man did the spineless whingeing stay aways may as well line up and spit on JW's grave and his memory.

There wont be too much money going on the arse imo. Clubs do not usually perform too well after a good result in Europe and a trip to OT is definitely not to be desired. Still...... it's a funny old game. -
I've stuck it somewhere else and cant find it now but imo Neil only looks good when teamed up with Emo. I'm not bulling Emo up in any way cos he frequently does my head in but he covers and works well with Neil whilst Bentley leaves Neill exposed. Thompson was just the same in not sharing defensive duties. Just my opinion.

Sorry but it didn't look like that to me waggy. When linesman flag for an infringement they wave the flag high above their head and from side to side, when they flag for offside they stick it up straight in front of them as if following some imaginery offside line. Last night if my memory serves me correctly that lino did the latter. I cannot believe that Sky did not pick up on it. Talking of TV..... that puffy little sh1t on BBC Chris Hollins* interviewed Tim Piggin Henman for the full 5 min slot this morning at 8.35 with not the slightest mention of Blackburn v Wigan. Am I alone in thinking that Tim would have never had a look in if Spuds, the arse or chelski had been playing? *Soft southern mummy's boy imo!
